worth the wait? 5/26/2006

The sushi is good - fresh, basic stuff. It was crowded when we went (9pm on a Thursday). We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table and wound up sitting at the bar. My vegetarian friend loved his roll, better than the avocado roll he usually winds up with at other places. I don't live in the 'hood so I don't know if I'd drive all the way to the west side just to eat here. It ain't THAT great. But if I lived nearby I'd be there all the time. more

So so good 4/14/2006

I have been coming to Hide Sushi for now more than 10 years (how time has flown!) and Hide is still as good as ever!! My only complaint? The news got out and now it's always full!!! But it's the best place to get great sushi. No fancy shmancy rolls here.. just good, fresh, traditional sushi! AWESOME!!! Pros: Value, Sushi, Dynamite w/ clams! Cons: Wait more

So Good Sushi, So Long Wait 1/23/2006

The sushi here is great. All their rolls, spicy, hamachi, scallop are great, you get four pieces in a cut roll. If you like dynamite (baked scallops/clams with mushrooms and mayo), it's great here and the perfect size so you don't get sick of the mayo taste. Their nigiri sushi is good and always fresh and a good size. I wouldn't say it's cheap sushi, but it's good for what you're getting. It's always crowded, and they close at 9, so I would get there early. If you get there close to closing, they will have last call soon and you won't be able to relax and eat - it might be more of a hurried experience. Pros: Fresh sushi, Cut rolls, Polite service Cons: Long waits, Parking, Close too early! more

Some Great Sushi but Not accomodating 1/7/2006

Great Toro (at reasonable price) Other sushi is also damn good. However, SUPER CRAMPPED SUSHI BAR! They ""squeeze"" you in wherever there is a spot. Long wait times and only cash. Service is ""fair"" at best. Pros: Sushi Cons: Service more

Really Really Good!!! 11/24/2005

We went out tonight for a sushi snack and decided to try this place. We both thought it was awsome! The unagi is served warm and melts in your mouth. All the sushi was really fresh and I loved sitting at the sushi bar. The tempura was good as well. Service was greatly and friendly. We will definitely be going back! Pros: Great service, Great sushi more

Extremely Fresh Fish 10/12/2005

I come here often, but just for take out. I usually get the chirashi and it is pretty good, they give you about 7 pieces of fish over rice. The fish is really fresh, the salmon is the freshest I ever had at a Japanese restaurant. For 1~3 dollars more than nijiya, this place is a great take out place. Pros: Food, Price Cons: Small more

The best sushi buy in LA 10/5/2005

This place is sooo cheap, and the fish is honestly some of the freshest I've found in my sushi experience in LA. The dishes are not the most creative, and the dining room is unadorned, so if you're looking for Super Duper Lobster Roll with whatever, this is not your place. This is for folks that want fish, plain and simple. If that's your game, you won't be disappointed. (PS My favorite's the halibut) Also, NO reservations here. Pros: Cheap!, Very fresh Cons: Some waiting, Small menu more

Good Sushi! 9/17/2005

They have good sushi at reasonable prices. They have parking, but you have to wait for a seat. Don't look at the place while you're waiting; the food would be even better if they gave it a make over. You need to remember the bring CASH. It can be embarressing if don't carry cash and your accustom to relying on your plastic. Even fast food places take cards now. Pros: Good Food, Parking, Good Spot Cons: CASH only, Lacking Decor, Waiting to be Seated more

Good Fish! 3/10/2005

Hide Sushi is a little hole in the wall joint...the best kind of Japanese food. It's small, yet does sushi well. Their tempura and spicy tunas are good too. more

One of my fave sushi spots! 3/10/2005

Love this place. Fresh fish, great service. Prices on average here are a lot cheaper than at other sushi restaurants, usually about a dollar cheaper for rolls and sushi pieces. There's not much to say about the decor and sometimes there is at least a 15-minute wait, but it's well worth it. I've been coming here for years and will continue to do so. If you want a place that's kick back, top-notch and cheap, this is the place for you!! Pros: fresh fish, nice sushi chefs, quick service more

I Love Sushi Boy 2/18/2005

My FAVORITE hidden sushi place! It is a small place and VERY crowded almost all the time, come early for seating. Sit at the sushi bar! They are so nice there and friendly and the portions are generous! They ONLY serve the FRESHEST fish, it melts in your mouth! I love their salmon teriyaki, it is cheap and they give you a very generous portion! Their prices are very reasonable. Keep in mind this place is great fresh fish at a reasonable price, no special rolls just great fish prepared in an excellent traditional manner! Plus free parking right next to it! Pros: fresh fish, parking, great sushi chefs Cons: NONE! ^_^ more

Bang for the buck! 10/10/2003

It's true it's small and crowded and the service is mediocre. But they have the most amazing dynamite! It's so pakced with seafood and they have a secret recipe for the sauce that they keep so sacret they won't allow take out on their dynamites. And the negi toro maki is just heaven! They also have the best salmon sashimi I have ever tasted! more

Good Sushi, poor service & atmosphere 4/15/2003

If what you are looking for is good sushi at a reasonable price, this is a fine choice. But, expect the experience to include your neighbor's elbow in close proximity to your food and unenergetic service (not to mention being moved to and fro so more people could be squeezed into the sushi bar). Pros: good sushi, reasonable prices Cons: poor service, crowded, cash only more

Pure and Simple 8/16/2002

I first went to this place last year with a few co-workers and now I go at least once a week [or whatever my budget permits! ] The sushi is EXCELLENT. The portions aren't very big, but the price and quality make up for that. Its definitely not a glitzy as the Roku's and Matsuhisa's of LA, but its great homey place with pleasant atmosphere. Pros: Quality, Price Cons: Portions more

Great sushi 6/26/2002

Aside from reasonable prices, this place has excellent sushi, hands down. Try their spicy tuna, hamachi (yellow tail), spicy scallop, and unagi (fresh water eel). Their tempura and beef teriyaki lunch special is very good as well. Weekdays or weekends, try to get there just before 6pm to avoid long wait. more
