Editorial review from Citysearch 7/21/2013

I've been seeing Dr. Gay for some many years. She's very witty & makes me feel right at home. Dr Gay knows a little bit about everything so she can interact with anyone. She also knows so much about her field of Optomology. I trust her immensely. more

Our family has gone to Dr. Gay for 20 5/23/2012

Our family has gone to Dr. Gay for 20 years. She has an extensive background of learning in everything having to do with vision and eye health. There is nothing I would not trust her with. Her advice for products and eye care is well tested and researched. Most people can give you a basically accurate prescription, but very few can help you correct your vision and see to the health and needs of your eyes in a way that will keep them healthy and working at their optimum throughout your life. Dr. Gay can and does! It is well worth your time to work with her. more

Good Service, Personable & Professional 12/5/2011

I've been going to Dr. Gay for over 15 years, and I can say that if you want a cr*p prescription, the Lenscrapters/mall experience, or the bum's rush out the door, go somewhere else--it'll free up appointments for us returning loyal clients. On request she took my base prescription and modified it for both far-away driving glasses and for close-up computer-screen glasses. She fills contact-lens orders too. NB I've had awful experiences from other optometrists who had far glitzier offices, computerized records, bla, bla, bla: but--prescriptions filled wrongly or with indefinite waits, condescending jerks hustling me for extras and addons, higher fees due to excessive staffing. If some of the crank reviewers one-starring Dr. Gay actually got out a little they might conclude that their criticisms were off-base when it comes to end results. more

Thorough, Talkative, Eccentric, Awesome 4/16/2010

She took a solid 45 minutes examining my eyes and explaining what she was doing during the process. We found a prescription that much better suited me than one I'd received at a relatively recent appointment with another optometrist,. I haven't experienced the wait for my contacts so I can't comment on that yet, but she ordered samples of several different brands to test out-a service not offered to me by other doctors in the past. Her style may not be for everyone, but she reminds me of my family practitioner growing up who never rushed an appointment, She is talkative, but also has a lot of interesting anecdotes if you've got some extra time in your day. I hope my contacts come in in a timely manner so I don't have to change my review of what so far has been a great experience with a physician. Pros: Thorough examination, very educational Cons: A bit unprofessional and disorganized, but in a charming way more

I visited Viola for the first time a month ago, and it will be my last. All the reviews with a 1 star rating at the time of this post accurately depict my experience and the environment at this business. Please listen to these ratings, not the scarce good ratings. Pros: its in Wallingford Cons: everything more

Nice, but totally unprofessional and unorganized eye doctor 5/18/2009

If you are reading these reviews before choosing an eye doctor, then you are SMART. If I had done so, I would not have gone to Dr. Gay, because I had the exact same experience as the other unsatisfied customers that have posted here. Pros: Good location, but worth the trip to go elsewhere! Cons: Where do I start.... more

A great experience - thank you 4/22/2009

Dr Gay was the fifth eye doctor whom I have visited in about 15 years. I had the best experience with her, and would recommend her. Pros: Good exam, explained eye issues & glasses, no hard sell Cons: Spent about 90 minutes - fine by me more

Kind, compassionate and competent doctor. 1/30/2009

I have been going to Dr. Gay for several years, both at her former office at Globe Optical and her solo office in Wallingford. I have always had a positive experience. more

Extremely incompetent and unprofessional 10/13/2008

Everything the other reviewers have commented about is right on. This woman talks endlessly (increasing the amount of time the appointment takes), is very disorganized, and I've been to doctors' offices in third world countries that are cleaner and more up-to-date than hers. While I was in my appointment, other patients walked right into the exam room; there's no semblance of confidentiality. I've never before had problems with finding contacts that work for me, but it took her three months to find me contacts that were satisfactory. One pair she ordered me weren't even my prescription. Absolutely ridiculous! She has no idea what she's doing. I will never step foot in her office again. If you are looking for an optometrist in the area, try Dr. Dana Cocke at (206)522-3131 He comes highly recommended. Pros: location Cons: everything more

Very disorganized and unprofessional 10/6/2008

This was the weirdest doctor's appointment I have ever had. I went to see Dr. Gay a few months ago. This is definitely a one man show, which would be fine if she was organized and professional. There are stacks of papers everywhere including patient information cards that were scattered around. The phone rang several times during my exam, and she stopped to answer the phone to book appointments. She even made fun of one of the patients once she hung up. I think she examined my eyes for 15 minutes and rambled endlessly for 45 minutes. It could have been from a rock, but I'm pretty sure there is a bullet hole in the front window. I wanted to leave in the middle of the appointment. I want to see another doctor, but I cannot go for a while since my insurance won't pay for it. I am not using the prescription she wrote me. I felt like I was in a Saturday Night Live skit. It's a joke. Do not go here. Pros: Can get an appointment quickly...but don't!! Cons: Everything! more

disorganized, doesn't deliver 6/9/2008

In October, I had my eye appointment. She was more than 40 minutes behind schedule, and kept having to stop the exam to answer the phone. I was never called as promised when my contacts/glasses arrived; finally I stopped by in December. After waiting for 45 minutes, she dug though huge haphazard piles of paper and eyewear, and found me my contacts and glasses. However, the glasses most certainly weren't the ones I ordered, and made me slightly dizzy/nauseous when I tried them on. She convinced me they were indeed mine (even though they were brown, and I had specifically ordered blue) and that I just needed to ""get used to them"" After two weeks of dizziness, I returned, and after another long wait told her that I didn't think they were mine. She told me the lab must have screwed up, and she'd sort it out and call me when she found the ones I'd actually ordered. It is now June. I have no glasses, no refund from the $143 I paid for the glasses, and my insurance benefits won't cover me getting another exam and glasses for another year and four months. Cons: disorganized, always behind, doesn't deliver promised product/service more
