PLEASE AVOID unless you desperately have to!!! 10/2/2010

This place is actually located at 6132 W Pico and is represented as Jerry's Garden with little handmade signs stuck on the gate with the name ""Jerry's Garden Hotel"" poorly written in black sharpie. It is by NO MEANS A HOTEL - not even the recently promoted POD hotels (which are really only glorified Hostels). This dump is a HOSTEL and not a very good one at all. If you are looking for a temporary place to stay - whether in town on business or simply between permanent places - PLEASE rethink this as an option. It is terribly nasty!!! The rooms are small closets with old mattresses for beds and old furniture littering the tight space. Only 3 of the 14 rooms have airconditioning/heater units. I had an aircondition in my room and the manager, who calls herself the owner, told me to turn it off because it burns too much electricity. I paid $40.00 per night for a room the size of a very small walk-in closet. I was told by someone that was around during the building of this place that it used to be a storage closet that they converted to a room. There are 2 showers and 1 bathroom outside (yes, you have to go outside into the actual garden, which is a working nursery where they sell plants, to get to the shower/bathroom) and they are NASTY!!! They have workers that clean them but you wouldn't know it. There's hardly ever any toilet paper or paper towel in them so if you MUST suck it up and stay here please pack your own. Keep in mind they call this a HOTEL. I've traveled the world and stayed in both hotels and hostels based on my financial flow and have never seen or experienced anything like this! I came back from a long day of meetings one day and had to ask them to remove an old toilet from in front of my room door!!! Even as a HOSTEL, this place does not have a common area where you may prepare a small meal and as a hotel there is no room service or gift shop you can go to for snacks or anything. Thankfully there are tons of places to eat around the intersection where it's located but still, don't hotels make provisions for their guests and hostels offer a place where you can at least make a prepackaged dinner? They have a microwave and toaster outside of the bathrooms and believe me the sight of these appliances will make you want to bring up your insides. I recall having to use the microwave on one occasion to heat some water and not only holding my nose but saying serious prayers that I would not be poisoned by some leftover mess despite the fact that I covered the mug of water (they do not allow electric pots or any applicances in the rooms - and rightfully so because my power would surge on and off sometimes. I'd be afraid to sleep thinking the room would catch a fire from some kind of shortage). There is a microwave in another section of the the ho(s)tel that's a mild bit cleaner even though it's also just outside the shower/bathrooms but they keep that section locked as the more 'upscale' section although the rooms are the same quality. The backdoor would be open so I would go in and use the microwave there but still terribly nasty. I knew of this section because the microwave in the garden itself has no rotating plate and I almost caused a fired by trying to make popcorn. I tried to be comfortable in this hellhole owned and managed by slumlords as I sacrificed staying there for a business that I'm building for which I had work to do in Los Angeles. I poured almost 3,000.00 into this dump paying the weekly rate because I had no time to look around and find another space. I will NEVER make that mistake again and am trying to save you from making that mistake from the get-go!!! The manager is confrontational, manipulative and dishonest. I was sooo focused on settling somewhere so I could move on with my business I stupidly ignored all the early red flags, which I don't have enough space to tell about here! In essence, DON'T BE DUPPED into checking in to the nightmare of Jerry's Garden HO(S)TEL! more
