I have 2002 honda accord that was overheating and i took in for the free estimate and the getlemen gave me a great price on my waterpump and thermostat. i was in and out the same day. the new owners were very nice and even gave me a ride home and picked me up after the car was done.i dont know the old owner frank but the new owners are down to earth. This is a HORRIBLE SHOP. It has been cited over 12 times in the last two years for operating WITHOUT A BUSINESS LICENSE! The owners and mechanic were SUBJECT TO ARREST!! Plus, they ignored multiple requests from the bettter bus. bureau. STAY AWAY!!! Cons: They are operating illegally. more

I felt totally blessed to have stumbled upon Franks (now called Harrison's). I've just moved to the area and was looking for someone reliable to check out a used car I was considering purchasing. Low on funds but needing a vehicle I took a car I was considering buying to these guys and as they put it up in the air I heard them say things like "oh no"...and "uh oh"....As soon as I heard that I said, "Just take it down, it's not worth buying this car if it's not in really good shape". So took it down they did and then........(YES REALLY) they told me I owed them nothing! "We didn't even do anything" they said. But they did. They sooo did. They saved a struggling artist money she does not have, a potentially dangerous car purchase and gave me an honest opinion while not asking for a penny! How often does that happen anymore? Anyone who writes a bad review for these guys is just a bad apple!! I was referred by a friend to get my car serviced there, and I walked out a very satisfied customer. I take very good care of my cars and just got sick of paying dealer prices for repair or maintenance so I took my car to Franks. Their exceptional service goes a very long way. They have great deals, they put enough time in to make sure everything is working correctly, and I have never had to go back to repair something twice like i have at other auto shops. Me being a lady, I thought I was gonna get jipped(thats what usually happens), and I know what's a regular price and what's not and Franks was definitely well-priced. So... if you're ever in doubt, take it to Franks! more

Without my permission, Frank drove my car around town for his own personal use - after he told me that my car should not be driven!! When caught, Frank said he would reimburse me. He told me he would pay me on numerous occasions but never paid. I filed a claim with the Better Bus. Bureau and he didn't even respond to them. Frank's has an UNSATISFACTORY rating with the Better Bus. Bureau. I had to call the police! They are now investigating him. I also had to file a law suit against Frank's Auto and Frank the owner. For you own good, never, never, never use this place. Cons: They broke the law and blatantly try to avoid responsibility more

I took my car to Frank's Auto Repair for an oil change not to long ago and they were very friendly to me. They said that I was very lucky that I brought my car in when I did. When I asked why, they said that I had almost no oil in my car. The mechanic explained to me that if I didn't bring it in when I did, for example in a day or two, I would have no oil. Which meant my engine would lock and I would have no car; unless I went out and bought another one. I was a little embarrassed but they were friendly, helpful and treated me nice. The manager said it happens sometimes and gave me a good deal. Now my car drives beautifully; nice and smooth. I know where I'm going to get a tune-up and my next oil change from; do you? Pros: They let you know what they're going to do before thay do anything. Cons: None more

My 1999 Honda has been running great since I took it into Frank's. The only draw back was they wouldn't take credit cards. I had gotten a quote to replace my belts from my dealer and almost choked. Frank's replaced them, performed a major tune-up and did some brake work for less than my dealer's quote. They completed all the work the same day. The car has been running beautifully for the last 3 months. Even a friend of mine who drives the car occasionally was impressed. I'm not going back to the dealer but bring it in to Frank's instead. Pros: explained the problems and called back with the figures before starting any work Cons: No credit cards more

I had to file a CRIMINAL OFFENSE report at the Chicago police station again Franks Auto. Frank's Auto initially offered me a good price for rear axle work. However, Frank failed to provide me with an itemized invoice for the work and told me that I had to pay for all parts before he did any work. This is unusual for a mechanic shop. I became more suspicious when he said that he puts all expenses on his credit card and that I would have to pay for the parts in cash or by check (before he did any work). I checked out Frank's Auto on the better bus. bureau website and they have an Unsatisfactory Rating. So, I decided to pick up the car and take it somewhere else. While picking up the car, one of the mechanics told me that Frank had left some cds in my car. I was very unhappy because my cd changer is in a compartment in my trunk and there was NO reason why anyone should have been in my trunk. The mechanic had no explanation why someone was in my trunk or why Frank was listening to cds in my car. The mechanic said that maybe Frank was listening to his cds while he took it for a test drive. I pointed out that if Frank took it for a test drive to listen for noises wouldn't it make sense to have the radio off. The mechanic agreed and said again that he didn't know why Frank was in my trunk or listening to cds. I just felt there is something shady about this place and took it to another mechanic. When I left the shop, I noticed that over 25 miles were put on my car while Frank had it! When confronted, Frank admitted that he used my car without my knowledge or permission. He drove it from Chicago to his home in Melrose Park and parked it in his own personal garage! When he knew he was caught, he had the nerve to say "I didnt think you would have a problem with it." I had to file a CRIMINAL OFFENSE report at the police station again Franks Auto. I would not use this garage because you won't know if Frank is driving your car around town. I was really put at ease by the friendliness and helpful tips from the manager. I left my first visit without paying a cent: I was referred to another shop neighborhood because they were better suited to help! I'll be back. Pros: Honest, Friendly, Helpful more

I've been going to Frank's for 2 years, ever since I moved to Chicago. I'm very picky about who works on my car, and I definitely lucked out by finding them. Great service - they take care of you right away, and let you know exactly what's up. They don't overcharge - I actually had an experience where I needed a new part, and they called around to a few dealers to find the cheapest price on the part. Personable, hard working, knowledgeable, and fair - I would recommend them to anyone! more

I just took my car in today to get an alternator switched out for a new one I bought. It only took an hour and 15 minutes plus I didn't have to pay hardly anything! My car is now working great! I never took my car to them before and didn't even know much about their services. They happened to be very helpful and knowledgeable guys. I will definitely take my car back to them, if need be. Coming from out of town, I took a leap of faith based on other Citysearch users' recommendations. Frank turned out to be all that was promised and more. He is an honest, hardworking guy who will shoot you straight and give you the best value. I can't say enough about his service, and I would recommend him to anyone. more
