Wait staff was really knowledgeable about the wines and was able to pick a great wine for us. Food was amazing. The menu puts a twist on a few traditional items and introduces different food cultures. Mainly Spanish, Cuban, and Italian. Great place overall. I wanted to try everything on the menu.. but will do that in time. Opted for the special which was a perfect choice. Calamari salad was great, Lamb chops were perfect with the sauce.. yum! loved the saut?ed spinach with pine nuts and golden grapes, and last the orange peppered cr?me brule was the icing on the cake! Will be back.. maybe this weekend! more

First restaurant that we ate at while my girlfriend and I were in Houston and it was not a bad way to start off our trip! My aunt and uncle's business partners were quite fond of this place and made sure that we got a little taste of what it had to offer. more

My family and I went to El Meson for an early dinner around 3:00 this past Saturday. After circling the restaurant and shopping centers we finally found a space to park right in front of the restaurant (they have Valet later in the evening). My father and I ordered the traditional Paella, my husband had some sort of fish and crab dish in a cream sauce (the menu didn't say anything about a cream sauce) and my dads girlfriend ordered some sort of chicken dish with olives. All were FANTASTIC, I had also heard that they had a very good sangria however they didn't list it on the menu so we asked our waiter. He brought out a massive pitcher, I have to say this was the best Sangria i have ever had, he said their secret was to add brandy to it! The sangria was slightly expensive around $32 for the pitcher but is well worth it and the food was very reasonable for the quality and serving size. The only thing i can say I wasn't impressed with was the salsa that they bring out with chips. It was Okay but nothing to rave about. I have a feeling that this place can get very crowded if you go during peak dinner times, however what we experienced is well worth the wait!! more

Managed to get a booking at the last minute, though the restaurant was pretty full when we arrived. Ushered to table immediately, no wait. Quick service, enough watiers, glasses topped up regularly and waiters seemed to know what they were doing. Seafood was very good and just the right amount - not the massive servings that you get in some places - emphasis appears to be on quality rather than quantity - which suited us. more

I Recently visited El Meson on date night with the DH. The restaurant was recommended by a friend and was spot on. First off, we were greeted by two very nice hostesses and taken to our table right away. Then they brought some great salsa and chips while we browsed the extensive wine menu and dinner menu. We were guided to a fantastic wine and decided to order the cheese plate to start off the evening. The waiter could not have been any friendlier and the wine was fantastic. The cheese was equally nice and came with some fresh fruit and crackers. more

i think this place gets always passed by because it's right next to mi luna which seems to catch everyone's eye before considering this restaurant. they have some tasty food here and their mix of tex-mex and cuban food competes to be better than the competition. any of their paella's are what do it for me. nothing like having a meal that you know took time to cook and is just plain savory. i'd go back because it's not stuffy and it's in a nice location. not to mention the food isn't to shabby either. more

Was in Houston for some hustle and came here for dinner. Started it off with some chips and salsa with a cerveza. Warm chips, homemade salsa, 5/5. more

I have been a big fan for years. I used to always get the yummy sangrias with friends, but they have an amazing wine list. I think they've even been noted in the Wine Spectator. Every year the decor gets better and the service has always been fantastic. I meet my husband there for our first date four years ago today and we'll be there again tonight. more

El Meson has mastered the art of rustic Cuban cuisine. Chef Peter Garcia's fare is perfected simplicity. Try the award-winning Peaella, or the Pollo al Ajillo; the most succulent chicken you have ever eaten! Combined with a wonderfully relaxing environment and one of the most extensive wine lists in Houston, El Meson promises to be an enjoyable experience. more

Very good food and attentive service. They actually made a mistake with my dinner order and gave me the wrong dish, and even though I failed to notice, they insisted on making it right. Good salsa for the chips. El Meson looks formal from the street, but casual is fine. more
