Since I moved out for college, I have switched renting residences every year 7 years in a row until we found our cozy home in Greenwood. We have been renting with Dorfman Property Management for over 2 years now. I wanted to go out of my way to give them positive internet feedback for everyone considering your next house. This place has been very very responsive to all our needs and requests. Meghan is the best. You won't find a more courteous and diligent person to work with. She always seems to be right on with everything she says she will do. \r \r Thank you Dorfman! more

HORRIBLE experience. It's 8 degrees outside right now & I am sitting in an apartment w/ no heat or hot water. 9 days ago I requested maintenance in my apartment because my heat was not working properly & my hot water was going out. Bad combo. 4 days later, I still had not seen anyone from maintenance & my heat & hot water were still not working so I went to the office & asked if I could get an ETA on when these repairs would happen. I was told soon. 4 days after that I was still having the same issues & had not seen maintenance yet so I called the downtown office, always a treat since they are hands down the rudest leasing staff ever assembled, & was treated like garbage & told that they had no idea what was going on but they would call Andy, the maintenance man. Well, on day 8 Andy finally shows up to my apartment but is baffled by what could possibly be wrong. I leave for work while he is "working" on my issues. HORRIBLE experience. I've lived in their Broad Ripple apartments for a little over a year now. Unfortunately, my lease had already been renewed when I realized how absolutely horrible this company is. The staff is rude & unintelligent. The apartments aren't the best but they're not the worst. There are bug problems in the summer & they really cheap out on repairs. I've had to have my water heater looked @ 7 times in probably the last 10 months because they won't fix whatever the problem is w/ it. I had a big crack in my ceiling that was poorly repaired & came back within a week. But the worst part is the office staff. They are incredibly rude. I'm absolutely dumbfounded by it. They really treat people like garbage. I live in Broad Ripple, where they have a lot of apartments, yet to speak to anybody or do anything, I have to go all the way downtown, to still be treated like garbage. I'm treated like a violent criminal every time I speak to anyone from the office. Which is strange cuz I'm a really good tenet. I always pay my rent on time, I'm quiet, nobody every complains about me, I keep my apartment clean & in good condition. Yet, no matter what, the office staff treats me like dirt. They're very shady & I know that recently they have regularly been coming into my apartment for no reason w/o warning. When I asked about it, they said they were just checking to see if I lived there. What?!?! How many times a month do you need to check to see if I live in my apartment?? If I pay my rent on time, who even cares if it were empty?? Not that it was. When I mentioned this, I was just told they can do what they want. It's really terrible, I wish I hadn't renewed my lease. I would never recommend this place to anyone. more

Rented a duplex in broad ripple for a year through Dorfman. They seemed fine while living there although the house was in poor condition. \r Our biggest issue with them was in getting our security deposit back. In total we gave them $825. We were made aware they would deduct from that for carpet cleaning (not that you could really do anything to the carpets since it had been warn down from likely many years of abuse/neglect). This cost us $193... Are you kidding me? They also charged us $60 to replace a set of 'dirty' window blinds. The last charge $50, was for the removal of a broken washer from the basement that was present when we moved in! Since they didn't include it in the initial lease we ended up replacing the broken unit out of pocket.\r All in all if you have other options for living in the area, take them. more

It might be a good idea to post responses on here if these negative accounts are actually not true. Helps those that may rent from you in the future. If there are no rebuttals, I'm inclined to believe what is being said. more

Kudos to Dorfman Properties and their entire staff. We have rented with them since March and any time we have needed maintanence, information or had a question we have always been treated with respect. They are expediant to respond to any maintanence issue and their maintanence staff is always on time and very friendly. We would recommend Dorfman to anyone looking for quality, well taken care of homes in good neighborhoods. more

I am pretty surprised about all the poor reviews . I have lived in a property managed by this company now for almost 2 years and it has been great! The only reason we are moving is because we purchased a home. The whole experience from the application process to this day have been very pleasant. They have always responded to my needs very quickly and have always been so nice and helpful. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants to rent from someone who knows what they are doing. more

I am beyond shocked of how I was treated. Every time I called to set up an appointment, I was talked to very pootly and the staff was very uninviting. Which did make me a little cautious because myself has been in property management for 10 years and i thought they just needed sales and customer service 101. But, it wasnt a deal breaker. But my husband and I needed a place to live and actually really liked a property. We had a few basic questions about month to month and they kept saying we don't know what kind of tenant you will be to answer that. This is the same people that every time I would call to schedule an apointment, I would say I have seen a property I want to see another, they would immediately ask if I've been evicted and how much money I make and how I make my money. I am sure they have dealt with unqualified people, but don't treat me from the start that I am not qualified. Anyways back to the month to month. They finally advised me not to rent because they couldn't guarantee month to month. They were wanting to loose a sale?! I couldn't believe it, they were discouraging me to rent from them. I understand if they can't guarantee month to month, but don't tell me not to rent, at this point I still wanted to rent even if they couldn't do month to month. So that night my husband and I went to fill out the application and after reading the application process, it was very fishy and again everything printed was so rude sounding and they make it difficult just to apply. You have to pay your deposit in cash and go downtown to first put in your app. And then go back downtown to put down cash deposit. You can't track cash, it's not tenant friendly at all. Anyways, it just sounded weird. So I got online and read all the reviews and completely scared me off. But we still liked the house and nothing else available and my husband pushed for the house again. So I called the, and expressed my concerns in a very calm way and told them I was in property mgmt. I asked if we could do a move out inspection together and they said they didn't do that. I asked if I could get a copy of the lease before we applied. They didn't know, they called me back and said they couldn't rent to me! I couldn't believe it! I am guessing they were scared because I have been in the business and know what is legal and what is not. That is my sign that it would've been a horrible experience. I know, property mgmt companies can make or break a living experience and I have worked for some great ones. I would advise everyone to look elsewhere! more

Do NOT do business with these people. I moved into a place managed by this company and was burglarized twice which of course wasn't their fault, but it was the attitude about the situation when i wanted out of my lease. The only thing the manager kept saying was if i break my lease they would sue. The attitudes of the employees, especially Megan, is that of people who totally hate their jobs. She never has an answer for anything and you can tell she hates her job and the people that they do business with. These guys are a bunch of crooks who don't give a shit about you. more

I have lived in a Dorfman Property apartment for a year and have been pleased with my apartment and the Dorfman staff. I love my apartment and haven't had any problems since moving in. When I was looking for apartments, I read some negative reviews and was initially hesitant to sign, but I am very happy I ended up going with Dorfman. You can't beat the location of my Broad Ripple apartment or the price. Most of the apartments in the area charge a lot more and everyone I have worked with (especially the on-site maintenance) have been wonderful. I haven't moved out yet and will make sure I have a walk through to see what I need to fix to avoid charges as per the advice of the previous post (thanks for the advice!), but I don't anticipate any problems with getting my deposit back. more

We had an inspection at the beginning when we moved in and could have requested one before I moved out. I didn't request the move out walk through and got stuck with the exorbitant fees. more

There is not enough space on here to write about all the details, JUST BE WARNED ! If you rent from these crooks you will end up looseing all your deposit and paying several thousand dollars more for things like Housekeeping, Removing curtian hardware from walls, replacing toilet seats, tightening oven handles, ect, ect ! These folks are crooks and should be banned from doing business in Indiana ! more

We needed to move ASAP because my family and I were staying at a hotel (we are from another state) and the Dorfman staff were excellent! We had appointments to see several houses, but after seeing only 2 we decided to apply for one. The entire process took only 3 days! They were so nice and helpful, it was a great experience. more

3 years ago I rented a property from Dorfman's. In that 3 years I have never had 1 negative experience. From the office staff to maintenance to the leasing agents everyone has always been delightful and very pleasant to deal with. Anytime I have ever had an issue it has always been handled efficiently and very promptly. When I rented my home 3 years ago I looked at many properties and found Dorfman's homes to be the cleanest and nicest of everything that I saw. I for one am a very happy tenant and I thank Dorfman's for doing a great job! more

Not only did they try to rip us off of our $300 deposit, but they ""weren't at liberty"" to give us information as to why they weren't refunding us. All the bill said was ""housekeeping."" Luckily, we had a lawyer who was willing to fight for us. For a less-than-mediocre apartment that we paid too much for, it was not worth the hassle of putting up with Dorfman's shading business dealing. RUN! more

I'm an out of state homeowner, and Dorfman Property Mangement has been my mangement company for the past 3 years. They have always been professional in dealing with tenant issues. Miriam and her staff are the best! Some of the complainers on here need to realize-that if they had done a property walk-through and pointed out the flaws on paper prior to moving in-they wouldn't have repair issue-since it would be documented. I highly recommend this company to any out of state homeowners. I get notified immediately when my tenant has a repair request. Rental prices are fair to the area. more
