Not Worth Your Time 7/1/2011

The atmosphere was mediocre at best and the staff was rude and unhelpful. Also, the bands that they schedule don't come onstage until over an hour past when they're supposed to. I was looking forward to trying the food, but unfortunately after standing there for 3 hours without finding an open table I left. I would definitely not waste my time there again, or recommend it to anyone. more

Great bar food, but uninspired beer selection and too smokey 2/18/2010

This is really about the Franklin location, but I imagine the review should suffice for the Nashville location as well (at least in regards to food and beer). This place has some of the best, reasonably-priced bar food I've had in a LONG time. The Reuben is delish, as are the chicken tenders, and the deep-fried cheese and sausage satays. I've yet to have bad food there. My only caveat is that the beer menu is typical at best. They have all the generic crap you can get at any bar (Guiness, Harp, Smithwicks), but nothing really great from the Island. There are so many beers that are much better than what they serve. I'd kill to get some Old Speckled Hen on tap (or even in a can) to go with my meal. Technically not Irish, but there are other beers on the menu that aren't Irish either. I think if they expanded the foreign beer selection, I'd be there with greater frequency. As it is, I usually go to Boscos, just for the beer. But sometimes you really want a greasy Reuben and a great beer. Dan McGuiness only gives you the first half of that equation. That, and (at least in Franklin) it's 21 plus only, So, the place is always saturated with smoke. It puts a dent on the enjoyment of any meal. Pros: Great food, cool atmosphere Cons: Lackluster beer selection, way too smokey more

Never made it past the door 12/2/2009

When the doorman said to my companion, ""I'll need to see your ID but not your mom's"" that was enough for me. Neither of us will ever go back. I would give zero stars if I could. Cons: Just plain rude more

A great time for all ages!! 2/17/2009

I recently came to town to visit my daughter who is in school, and she suggested we go to dinner at Dan McGuinness, we ended up staying all night!! I ordered an appetizer called Sausage n Batter which was fabulous and plenty of food for a few people and then I tried the Irish sampler which I ate all of even though I was stuffed!! It was great! I was impressed at how many different beers they had on tap. After all that food I didn't want Guinness and our server suggested some other fantastic beers instead. The service really impressed me, our server chatted with us suggesting other things in Nashville to check out. We stayed that night and listened to Irish music on the patio, which was a little rustic, but heated and covered for the winter weather. My overall experience at Dan McGuinness was top notch! I would suggest going there for anyone of any age. My daughter and I both had a stellar time! Most of all the charm of the pub and excellent service was memorable. The staff made you feel like you were a part of their family! keep up the great work! Pros: Service, beers, and great food Cons: patio was a little dirty, but still cozy and enjoyable more

Best spot in Nashville!!!!! 2/17/2009

I am a new resident of Nashville but have been visiting for years. I have been to Dan McGuinness when visiting, and feel so lucky that it is my new hangout. The food is fantastic, my favorite being the fish n chips, but other items on the menu are great when you are not in the mood for fried food. They also have healthy items like wraps and sandwiches, and of course excellent salads. These salads are not all wilty lettuce drenched in dressing, but you get a cold plate with fresh greens, ample toppings, and various homemade dressings on the side. The staff provides excellent service whether you are sitting at the bar or at a table. You can tell the employees there love that bar as much as my friends and I do. When you go to Dan McGuinness you feel like you are in a place that someone has taken care to handpick each item on the menu, as well as each friendly staff member that works there. I would recomend this Irish pub to visitors and residents alike. On the weekend there is a band on their patio and it turns into a fun nightlife atmosphere, but during lunch and dinner hours, it is great for a low key meal and a pint or two. Hope you enjoy this place as much as I do!! more

Best Irish Bar in Nashville and Cool Springs 11/21/2008

I have visited both locations in downtown and cool spings and have been very satisfied with the food and the service. The shepherd's pie and fish n chips are the best this side of the pond. They both offer music on fridays an saturdays ( Cool Springs) and Sundays (Downtown) with Nosey Flynn, the best irish duo in the south. Downtown has more of a bar feel and the party is on with live rock bands on friday and saturdays, while the cool springs location is a little more upscale but has a rockin karaoke on wednesday night. Above all they pour a perfict pint of Guinness. Plus the servers and bartenders are cute Pros: Beer Food Cons: Parking/ no kids more

Spoiled Food. Terrible Service. 11/9/2008

I visited this establishment last night with several of my friends. The service and food were terrible beyond belief. Our problems started when we ordered our food. Two people in our party ordered potato soup. They thought the soup tasted sour, so they asked the waitress about it who checked and found that the soup was spoiled. I ordered my food TWICE, but after everyone else in my party had eaten (well everyone except the two who were served tainted soup), I still hadn't received my order. We also had to beg to get drink refills which were only forthcoming after everyone had finished eating. The manager came to our table to assure us that the tainted food wouldn't make anyone ill and he comped some drinks for us. However, neither he nor the waitress were very apologetic about the horrendous food and service at their establishment. In short, I wouldn't recommend going there for anything other than perhaps a quick drink at the bar. Pros: Good location Cons: Tainted food. Horrendous Service. more

too bad for you... 9/9/2008

This was one of my favorite restaurants, and now I cant even go. If this place would be smart they'd ban smokers. Or at least at just on of their locations. Studying marketing, I believe that this was a poor decision to make it a smoking place. But thats just me. Now I just have to go find another restaurant to enjoy my sausage and batter at! The sad thing is i brought a lot of people everytime i went. Which mean good business for you! Now, unfortunately you'll never get that! more

Was a great place, not any longer.... 8/12/2008

I used to go to Dan McGuinness all the time during the week for lunch as well as in the evenings before Predators games. Since the restaurant smoking ban, however, they seemed to have lost focus from serving good pub grub, to being strictly a bar so smoking can be allowed. The food has gone from wonderful Irish food to bar fare. I'll never go back. Pros: If you want to drink only, great place. Cons: Food is terrible anymore. more

Great Environment 8/7/2008

I went there for one of my many trips for my 21st. As of what I can remember, it was great! We sat outside, and our waiter was very nice and FAST! That's all i remember- but i'm sure I'll go back here soon! more

I love this place!!! 8/3/2008

I was in Nashville on vacation, and went to a bunch of bars on broadway and demonbreun. We went to this place because it looked really nice, and relaxing. We walked in and I fell in love with it. The people that worked there were so nice, and from all over the US, and talked to us about the city. I met awesome locals which all are just so friendly. The food was delicious, and the Guinness was great!!! I went back to this pub everyday of my trip because it was that great. On saturday night they had a live band on the patio, which was pretty rockin, with tons of people dancing, or sitting at the tables. So you had the bar inside and outside. I did not sit there and have to wait forever for a drink either, very proficient employees. I wish I had a bar like this in my hometown!!! Pros: everything....not one bad thing to say about this place more

Great place to belong 7/11/2008

I've been in town for two weeks and the staff has become family. Love the beer selection and the food is better than expected. Must see of Nashville. Give it two beers before you leave. more

The greatest bar in Nashvegas 7/10/2008

I have been to this bar many times since moving to Nashville a year ago. The beer selection is fantastic, they pour the best guinness in town, and the staff is truly friendly and helpful. The manager on Friday even helped me locate my keys when I left them. As for the food, all I have to say is try the chicken skewers and the shepherds pie, both wonderful dishes. Great place, great music, and great staff. Next time you are in Nasvegas definitely check out this place. Right at the end of music row, you will hear the music as you approach. Pros: Free parking, friendly staff, great food and music more

Awesome Irish Pub 7/8/2008

I went in expecting a traditional bar and fell in love with the bartenders and staff. Food was excellent and atmosphere incredible. Love it and will always go back!!! Pros: Great staff Cons: May get busy more

9200 Carothers Pkwy, Franklin, TN 6/20/2008

This concerns Dan McGuinness in Franklin, TN. They charged me twice for my bar tab ($25 x2= $50.00!) and they have not fixed the issue after repeated phone calls. This happened over a month ago and every time I call, someone writes down my information and says the manager will be in tomorrow. Evidently this bar does not have anyone in charge during open hours....which also explains their horrible customer service! I've called 3 times this morning and they don't even have an answering machine to leave a message! I hate this place! Pros: if you like wasting your time and money, this is the place for you! Cons: If you want friendly service, good food, and not getting ripped off by the bartender, go somewhere else! more

Rude management/service, bad food and no Irish music! Avoid this place like the plague! 3/13/2008

Don't go here! The first time went visited we thought wow what a cool looking place. But, after getting horrible and rude service the next 3 times we visited we decided to avoid it. The only thing Irish about it is the woodwork and the name. We spoke to the owner and asked why they don't have live Irish music and he said he wasn't interested in it. He was also amazingly arrogant. The food was lousy but most of all the owner/manager and waiters/bartenders were arrogant, rude and made the customer feel like they were bothering them. The fish and chips were all batter and grease and cold. \r Definitely not what you would expect. It sounded like the owner/manager was on a power trip so much that he didn't care what his customers wanted. In a music town like Nashville the potential is great for this place. But, they are blowing it. Besides needed improvement in service, most of all they need authentic exciting Irish music. People in Nashville are sophisticated musically and would eat up this place if they had Irish music at least 3 or 4 times a week.\r Until that happens I would say avoid this place. You would be better off going to McCreary's Pub in Franklin. McCreary's is the best pub in the Nashville area by far! They are nice too. Pros: woodwork decent Cons: horrible negative attitudes from service/no Irish music/ bad food more

Great food. Good Beer. Smokers Only. 12/12/2007

We used to go to Dan McGuiness all the time. Now they are 21 and up because they allow smoking. Formerly there would be 2-3 people smoking at the bar, and nobody else smoking in the restaurant. Now there are a lot more smokers. This makes the food taste bad, not to mention the cancer. It is very unfortunate that they have chosen to cater to the smokers instead of the people who come in regularly for the truly great food. If you can stomach eating in a cloud of smoke, it may be worth it to you. With so many other places in Nashville choosing to go along with the smoking ban, I am very disappointed. The food is good, but now I'm only going to get take-out. But then that will probably smell like a cigarette, too. \r On a good note, the house beer is great. Pros: Great food. Excellent appetizers! Great tap beers. Cons: Sign on the door says 21+, but that really means ""Smokers Only."" Blarg. more

Best Irish pubq 10/23/2006

This place has a good feel and a better beer. The food is good, if you can get there during the World Cup, you will definitely have an experience to remember. The service is nothing to brag about, but the service in most restaurants in Nashville leaves something to be desired. For a good beer and an even better Sheperd's Pie this is the place. more
