Is it closed or being renovated? 5/2/2009

My friend and I try to find a different, local spot each week for lunch. Went by the Daily Grind yesterday and we saw ladders inside but no people. more

Good casual breakfast place 8/31/2008

Some friends invited my husband and I to join them for breakfast at the Daily Grind this morning and we were pleasantly surprised by our experience. The atmosphere is certainly rustic with old fixtures, mis-matched tables and chairs, and photocopied menus, but the food was great. My husband had some doubts when he received his Eggs Benedict because it looked as though it was a Mc-out-out-of-the-box type meal, but once he bit into it, he found happiness. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the Hollandaise rich and creamy. My made-to-order omelet was well made and to order. It was, however slightly overshadowed by the amazing cheddar/ jalapeno grits served on the side. We also enjoyed a wonderful Belgian waffle infused with a warm, cinnamony spiciness that was delightful. Pros: Good food, casual atmosphere more

My girlfriend was dying to go to this place. It was very close to my house and I was starving so we went. I spent 13 bucks on a plate of migas. x2=30 bucks for breakfast. The meal was OK at best. Maybe there is something better on the menu. The lump of greasy eggs and salsa should have cost me a lot less. Pros: free newpapers everywhere Cons: kinda lame food. more

Food is good; everything else unbearable! 3/20/2008

I go to Daily Grind for breakfast once or twice a month. The food is usually quite good. The service has always been spotty, but seems to be getting worse. There is rarely coffee, and if there is coffee, it is rarely hot. The tables are dirty. Today, they didn't have knives. The owner? sits at the bar and reads the paper while everyone else struggles around him. Pros: coffee is good, but only the few times when it is hot more

very disapointing ... long time customer will not return. Is this place going out of buisness? 12/22/2007

All I can say is WOW?! what has happened? I live down the street from the daily grind and go there at least 2 to 3 times a month. After saturday mornings experience I will not be returning. While placing the order I was told, We have no crossants, okay, I can deal with that. I then proceeded to pay 2.50 for a glass of orange juice that was poured out of a jug, which has never been the case in the past. They were out of every soda in the fountain and had the cans lined up in front of what used to be the soda machine. We sat down at a dirty table and began the wait...This food is usually of a very high quality, so I can understand the wait.. not so much this time. When the food arrived it was medicore at best. The hashbrowns that are usually my favortie. lacked the usual flair and flavor.. looks like they were skimmping on the veggies inside. The sausage patties which are usually fresh seemed as though someone had got it stuck underneath their shoe. For the price this place just isnt worth it anymore. what a shame! more

So many better places to eat than the Daily Grind 12/19/2007

I go to the Daily Grind on Saturday mornings not by choice. My running group or should I say one person in the running group really likes going to the daily grind for what reason we all don't know (habit we think). After this past weekend we are going to force this runner to go with us to a place that has good service, food, and better prices for what you get. This past Saturday we got there as they were unlocking the doors at 8am. Ordered the food and waited and waited until we finally had to ask the management where our food was. We told her that it had be adequate time to bring the food and she was taken back that we were asking. Others who had come in after us were eating their food, but we were patiently waiting for our food. We had some of the same food that other people ordered after us. Several times we go there and they are out of coffee or soda. This week they were out of sausage. They are always out of something. The manager is NOT friendly. She was the person this week that was taken back when we asked where the food was. I like the oatmeal but the super sized bowl they sale is way too big for me to eat. I hate to waste food so i have tried to order the cup or small bowl size. This is not on the menu, but i have seen people order this and get it. Well, one morning i ordered the smaller size. The super sized bowl came out to me instead of the smaller size. I looked at my ticket and she had charged me the super size. I know i asked for the smaller one. This woman never likes to let you get the smaller size. They make more $$$ selling the larger size b/c the cost of the food whether small or large is the same and if they can charge more than they make more. I eat out a lot w/ my job. I never write a review unless the experience was fantastic and deserves to be highlighted or the experience was terrible. This place is a terrible place to eat for breakfast. I am not sure about other times of the day. Looking forward to no more Daily Grind on Sat.! Pros: It is close to where my running group meets on Sat. mornings Cons: parking, service, food, price, not clean, value and always out of something more

The Grind will get you down... 8/15/2007

It has been three days since my first visit to The Daily Grind and I have yet to let go of the horrible experience. For a person that is open minded and rarely complains, my experience is not embellished one bit. Ordering at the counter was hardly pleasant but I should have known there was something seriously wrong by the look of fear in the eyes of the person taking our order. Looking back, it was obvious that the restaurant could not handle more than probably ten couples - we were most likely #15. There were no tables to sit at even though we had already ordered our food. The people piling in were rustling for tables like it was a gold rush all over again, trying to stake their claim. This was most troubling as those that had already ordered had no place to sit while a single person in line was waiting to order for their entire party that was saving a table or two. Being there with my older parents, this was not only rude but inconsiderate to everyone waiting. There was no coffee as they had run out, and when they tried to make more, someone forgot to take off the lid and subsequently coffee ran everywhere. There was no cream, no syrup for waffles, no ice, and no napkins. I witnessed the owner or a friend of the owner arguing with a waiter about running out of glasses. I felt so sorry for the waiters and bus boys as several patrons looked like they were going to form a lynch mob and hang them for the restaurant's inadequacy. Each of the waiters and bus boys (only 2) were sweating profusely as they tried to serve the orders that were literally piling up in the kitchen's window. Needless to say, the food was deathly COLD. The over all condition of the place was filthy and the spilled pet bowl on the deck that was full of pet food for someone's cat, was about all I could take. Save your money, time, and desire for a good meal for a place that knows how to run a restaurant. It is hard to believe, but every bit of this is true, don?t let The Daily Grind get you down. Pros: Has A/C Cons: Everything else more

I love it! 7/18/2007

Hey, what are you guys talking about? I met my friend Dave here for breakfast and had a perfect experience! Great coffee, wonderful, fresh oatmeal with a strawberry on top, punctual service and when Dave ordered ""the usual,"" they knew exactly what he meant. Lighten up! It's worth the trip! Pros: casual but friendly atmosphere, great prices more

Such a shame 2/8/2007

The Daily Grind used to be one of my favorite spots for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They had great coffee, oatmeal, omelets, and a burger in fries that were, in my opinion, to die for. And then I don't know what happened. It got too popular I suppose. The service is spotty, at best. Now the omelets come almost cold and the cheese isn't even melted in the middle. Half of the time they come with the wrong ingredients in them! It takes forever to get your food. So, every once in a while I try it again to see if they're back to the great food and service that I used to love and I'm diisappointed. Pros: Burgers (food in general when kitchen is good), cozy Cons: horrible service more

Avoid on weekends!!!!!!!!! 11/19/2006

I have been to this restuarant at least 25 times and had great food and decent service. Lately however the it has become so popular that the service has taken a serious turn for the worst. The last couple of times Ive been there service was very slow and the lines were long. Today we went and after standing in line for 15-20 minutes just to order we waited another 45 minutes for the food, it didnt come.. I then went and asked what the deal was and they assured me our (2 of us) food was on the way. All the while people who came in after us by 15 minutes were already finished and leaving. They continued to bring out others food (which were the same dishes we ordered) I ended up just asking for my money back. Ive been in alot of resturants with lousy service but Ive never had to do that!! They should have immediantly offered to bring the food and comp. the meal but no such offer was made. They gave me back my money less the tip if you can believe that. They wont ever see us again, such a shame since its in the neighborhood. Pros: Good food when you can get it. Cons: Parking, Service, always out of coffee, long lines, stand in line to order, long wait for food. more

Relax with friends or solo 2/26/2006

What a wonderful place to relax in a comfortable calm atmosphere. Enjoy the latte assortment. Meet with friends or take time for yourself. Service is great! It provides a friendly ambiance within close proximity to the city. Pros: fabulous lattes, great service, friendly personnel more

Terrible Experience! 2/4/2006

I had a really embarassing experience at the Daily Grind, caused by its management. The Daily Grind has been advertised and reviewed as a great place to go and hang out with some coffee, but after I had been there for only an hour studying, they asked me to leave because I had not spent enough money! (I bought a latte and did not have a chance to get a second). It was really embarassing because not only was only I approached by an employee, but he was loud enough that other customers around me made comments. more

Love this place 1/1/2006

I worked near this coffee house for a couple of years and never stopped in until recently. I loved this place. It is a great alternative to corprate coffee houses. The service is exceptional. It is a cozy place to drink a cup of joe and spend time with friends. I will be back. more

Great place, an asset for the neighborhood 10/1/2005

This is the kind of down-home, non-corporate place that Houston needs more of. From the old building (read: character, not strip-mall) to the owner-operator, the place has soul. Friendly staff, great coffee, great food, warm atmosphere. What's not to like? more

Meatballs! 7/18/2005

Best meatball sub I've ever had. Great salads. Great atmosphere. They don't serve lunch on the weekends until 1 PM though... Pros: Meatball Sandwich, Atmosphere, Free Wi Fi I hear Cons: Weekend lunch hours more

Greaat for Neighborhood Breakfast 7/2/2005

Excellent, Friendly neighborhood Breakfast. Free WiFi ! Inside and Outside dining. The food is very good and the selections are not run of the mill. Creative, warm and relaxed. Pros: Delicious Food, Atmosphere, WiFi more

Cute Little House 6/20/2005

This is a coffeehouse but they have a few amazing salads!! I had the Grilled Chicken Ceaser and it was awesome! Also, don't leave without taking a slice of heaven. They have the best cakes. If you like the cakes at Empire Cafe, you will like these for less money. The cafe itself gives you an ""at home"" feeling, very comfortable and friendly! I loved it and will be back! more
