Great Store, but Watch Out for the Employees 2/6/2008

Just got back from a vacation in Galveston and Bubbies was one of the highlights of the trip. I could roam around that treasure trove for hours - except to the rude and dishonest people running the place. The woman harped at us (in a rude tone) the entire time we were in there wanting to know what we wanted. the real problem came when we checked out our $80 worth of merchandise. I watched the man finalizing our order ring up a shoulder strap, then casually brush it back behind the counter and onto the floor as he was packing our bag. I acted as if wanted the shoulder strap and dug through every bag looking for it - not to be found. He finally grumbled and gave me another one to replace the one he hid back. We didn't get an itemized receipt, our bad, and after some mental math we think we were overcharged $8 or $10. We bought some great stuff, would have gladly paid a little more for it, but the experience was just lousy and we'll try hard not to go back... more

Awesome store, best on the strand! 1/2/2006

I love this store! I'm new to Galveston and since I've been here have been to the strand several times. I didn't really care for the strand, it seemed to only have gift shops with useless things. Col. Bubbies was an amazing store though. I'm 18, and female. I dont have much use for army supplies, but when I went in and saw their bags (shoulder bags, backpacks, etc) I had to have one. I bought a biohazard shoulder bag for fairly cheap, and have already started decorating it with various military pins, patches, and name tags that they sell for literally a dollar a piece.. It's a fantastic store, for anyone of any age with a creative mind and a love of unusual and out of the ordinary things! Even if you don't need army supplies, you'll find something you like. They have some really awesome t-shirts, pants, and of course bags. As well some really cool trinkets, like the pins, patches, and tags I mentioned earlier as well as buttons, dog tags, and I'm sure a lot more. If you've never been to an army surplus store, you should definately check this one out the next time you visit the strand. You'll certainly find something there that catches your eye! more

Attention! 8/21/2005

Colonel Bubbies Army Surplus store has been in Galveston for longer than I can remember. They have the best supply of Army clothing and guns and bullets. It is a great attraction to just see even if you aren't going to buy anything. If you want a bullet-proof vest, go to Bubbies and you will find at least one. more

Great military surplus center. 7/2/2005

If you need what this establishment sells, then go for it. It's a great place to find camo, military suppllies, bumper stickers, etc. Be sure to check out the work boots. Also, there are quite a few cats hanging around, some friendly and some not. Great prices and helpful staff round out this local favorite. Bottom Line: if you need what they're selling, it's a great place to go. Also a good place to spend some before getting on a cruise ship. more
