Collegetown Video

The only thing that Collegetown Video has going for it is location. It is the only video store in the collegetown area of Ithaca. However, if you have a car or can go somewhere else, like Hollywood Video by Pyramid Mall, I would recommend doing that. I don't like a lot of things about Collegetown Video. You don't get movies for more than a day or two and the quality is terrible. On numerous occasions, I've gotten DVD's that have been so scratched, that either they refused to play or stopped working in the middle. Again, if this is your only option, I would suck it up, but try to avoid if you can. more

This is one of the more popular hang out places in Collegetown. You can get a variety of bagels here, and they are made relatively fast. You can also order bagel sandwiches with a variety of meats and cheeses or veggies stuffed in between. The coffee is also decent and not as expensive. It's a great place to stop by in the mornings to pick up a bagel and some coffee for. You can also buy bagels in bulk for a cheaper price. more

CollegeTown Video is lucky in that they are the only video store in the collegetown area of Ithaca. Their policies and quality appear to reflect the fact that they have little to no competition in the surrounding area. (Recently, a Hollywood Video store opened, but it is only driving distance and inaccessible to most students without a lot of trouble). First off, the majority of their movies are only one-day rentals as opposed to most normal places which rent movies for at least two to three days. CollegeTown Video's selection is decent, but definitely not at the caliber of a big chain. The most frustrating thing is the poor quality of their DVD's. On about three separate occasions, I rented a DVD from them only to get home and have the movie stop playing in the middle because it was scratched. I would go back and they would give me another movie and credit my account, but this became quite a hassle and not a one time occurance. If possible, I would recommend not renting from them. I would rather drive or take the bus to the shopping center and rent from somewhere else. more
