Deception and Greed 5/13/2012

We made the mistake of going there today for Mother's day brunch! They normally charge $25 a person for their Sunday brunch, which is already too much, but I tolerate it every once in a while so the family (my wife and I and our 2 infant children) can get out and have a different breakfast. Well today we go in and after we eat, they inform us that they have raised the price to $32 per person, for that day, without even making us aware of it. I got the check and asked the manager why the price was sooo high and she told me it was because of the holiday and pointed to a tiny sign hiden by plants, which had written in small print a notice of the price increase. I looked her straight in the face and told her that I would not pay $70 for a breakfast for two!!!!!!!!! I laid $50 on the table and walked out. But wait, it gets better! Then the waiter expected a tip!!! I told the waiter his tip was if he wants tips, he should not work in an overprice self serve buffet. We will never go there again!!!!!!!!!!! more

Iffy food, awesome service 6/5/2011

A friend and I went to Chequers for their Sunday brunch. The food was boring,bland,and uninspiring.Everything on the hot bar (grits,eggs,etc) was under seasoned and unmemorable.However, we found the fresh to order omelets and prime rib to be quite good . We also had a very amiable server who was always there to refill drinks and take away plates. To be candid we are not sure we will return because if the brunch was so unsatisfying ,how good could the actual menu items be? more

We attended Chequers Seafood Grill for a Sunday Brunch. We made reservations in advance for a party of 7. Chelsea was our server. Service was awesome. From the made to order omelet, the sushi rolls, and chilled seafood everything was delicious. The brunch was $23/pp and the bubbly champagne flight was awesome. Bloody Mary could have used a little more vodka but everything else surpasses superior...Great Experience!!!!!!! more

My experiences with Chequers in the past have been good - good seafood, nice waitstaff, etc. However, we went for their Happy Hour specials - $5.95 for appetizers (including raw oysters, crab dip, and more), drink discounts (which are not impressive, $1.00 off some drinks), and $8.00 whole lobsters. Not a bad deal. However, you have to sit in bar or on the patio. If there are a couple of you, sit in the bar, that's fine. But DO NOT sit on the patio like we did. There were insects everywhere. They lit citronella lanterns, but they simply did not work, and we were swatting at gnats and yellow jackets like crazy. On a recent trip to Atlanta, my sister and I had dinner at Chequers Seafood Grill. We had made reservations on a busy Thursday evening and were seated promptly. The decor reminded me a bit of a cross between Red Lobster, complete with ""fishmonger"" plaques, and an old upscale restaurant with dark wood and high metal embossed ceilings. The volume was somewhat muted by the wood and glass dividers between tables. They have a nice wine list, which is good, but don't even think about drinking the water. Together, my wife and I had the Caesar salad, the house rolls, the lobster bisque, the seared halibut, and the seafood special. Pros: Great rolls, good variety Cons: Food isn't worth the price. Boring tastes. more

Horrible service, average food 4/27/2008

A great night! 4/23/2008

I took my girlfriend to Cheqeurs for her birthday. We had a very memorable experience. We were greeted warmly at the door and shown to our table downstairs. Our server approached and introduced himself. He took time to walk us through the menu and explain signature dishes as well as specials. We had the chef's seasonal preparation of the seabass and a filet. It was amazing! The steak was the mosty tender and cooked to a perfect medium rare! Lorenzo also suggested a bottle of wine that we enjoyed so much that we had another! He was very attentive and professional. After dinner he brought us a dessert tray and described the desserts to us. The keylime pie was the best I've had in a while! All in all this was one of her best birthdays she said. we will do it again next year for sure. more

Wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner 2/1/2008

My husband and I live far from our families and are alone on Thanksgiving. After years of trying to find something decent we finally came upon Chequers. WOW! The food truly tasted like what I would get at home. All the traditional dishes were there! more

You have to try it. Their steaks are amazing. Good presentation, great staff. Far from the 'checkers' that people mistake it for when I first mention it. I'd be glad to keep this place a secret, but it's too good to be quiet about. And, yes, their seafood is one of the south's best! more

One of Atlanta's best 12/4/2005

I've been to Chequers several times, and have not once had a bad experience. This is truly one of my favorite restaurants. The food is delightfully delicious, their signature dinner rolls are to die for, the drinks, the service, the ambience, everything was top notch. This is indeed one of my all time favorite restaurants. Oh and don't let me forget the desserts -- the carrot cake is nothing short of orgasmic. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Ample Parking more

Man, this place was excellent! I took my fiancee here for Valentines day not knowing what to expect and this place totally blew me away. The swordfish is excellent and the atmosphere is perfect for romance. I live in metro ATL. and I would highly recommend this restaurant for its service and food.
