Wonderful 5/6/2003

We dined a t cassarino's last night (5/5) and it was excellent. Had the veal chop and I must say the price and the quality better than any other place in the cit. Had Jeff as a waiter, he was excellent and knowledgeble. more

Simply the Best 2/9/2003

We arrived for our reservation (recommended) early, but were seated promptly in the full dining room. Charming set-up of three floors, like a chalet (which catered to the separation of large groups and the cafe crowd from the diners). We sat on the top floor at a window table and were able to watch the goings-on of Federal Hill in the evening. Our waiter was extremely nice and polite, knew the menu, and went the extra mile to please us (I'm an extremely picky eater). We enjoyed a relaxing evening, despite the full house for the servers. Another plus was the bill was a lot cheaper than we expected. Pros: valet parking, excellent service, willing to please more

BE CAREFUL! 12/10/2002

We dined at Cassarino's last night,12 people. Excellent food, service, atmosphere! The waiter put his gratuity on the bill and did not inform us. We went ahead and tipped him a generous $80 on top of the total bill of $400, not realizing he had already included it! He had plenty of time to inform us before we left!! I am a very hard working waitress and would NEVER cheat a party like that..shame on you! Pros: good food, casual, prompt seating Cons: crowded, tip included in bill, expensive drinks more

Authentic & Romantic 9/4/2002

Great staff! A definitely romantic italian restaurant with a home cooking touch. Nice variety of italian dishes wihout too much flare. Nice wine selection. If you are in Providence, this should be one of the restaurant to stop by after visiting Pastiche Bakery in the afternoon! Pros: Good food, Inexpensive, Great wait staff Cons: Lack of parking more

best italian for the money 7/31/2002

While there is no shortage of great italian food on federal hill, Cassarinos manages to get you great food at an affordable price. My favorites are the antipasto appetizer, the frutti di mare (tons of seafood on pasta), and the tuna special -- sushi quality tuna cooked very rare. The portions are huge -- two people can easily share an appetizer and a pasta dish for a filling dinner. Pros: Great food, Good prices, Valet parking Cons: Crowded at peak times more

Great value 6/17/2002

This is a very busy restaurant so you must make reservations. I was shocked at how inexpensive the entres are and you get a large plateful of food. The flavor is good, however, it's not the best. more

  • The Scene
Planning a blind date, business meeting or multigenerational birthday celebration? Somehow, the informal elegance of Cassarino's dimly lit dining room appeals to all. Maybe it is the timeless, dark-green and cream interior with brass accents, but more likely, it's the fact that the casually dressed crowd enjoys the food. Fortunately for patrons, Cassarino's menu of Italian favorites does not require a translator.

    The Food
Whatever you choose, from pasta to the wine-based pollo Marsala, you can feel confident that everything will be dependably delicious. Not to say there isn't any creativity in these traditional offerings: The scallops alla aurore are tossed with penne in a pink vodka sauce and the ravioli pesto arrives fanned out on the plate like a pinwheel, with sun-dried tomatoes and black olives at the center.
