FOUND A COCKROACH IN HOT CHOCOLATE 6/10/2011

THERE WAS A FULL SIZED COCKROACH IN OUR HOT CHOCOLATE. My mom, my sister-in-law and I went to Intermezzo for some dessert. We ordered two hot chocolates, a mimosa, and a sambuco cake. My mom ate all of the whipped cream off the hot chocolate first with her spoon then began to drink the hot chocolate itself. She drank more than half of her hot chocolate before realizing the disgusting cockroach floating upside down. My mom didn't even notice anything at first. I thought it was chocolate shaving. My sister-in-law found it strange and took her spoon and scooped it up. We both screamed out loud and she dropped the spoon back into the cup. My mom then went to the restroom to vomit. It took us forever to get the attention of a host. Once we got the manager, things got worse. The manager didn?t take responsibility and all she said was ""I didn't put it there."" and ""It already happened, and I can't do anything."" As a manager she should?ve AT LEAST asked if there's anything she could do for us regarding the incident. She then brought a male manager. He comes up to us and has the nerve to ask how we would like to take care of the bill. SERIOUSY? My mom needs to go to the doctor's for a check-up now. I just wish to warn you about my horrifying experience here so everyone can reconsider before you end up drinking cockroaches. more

Great Ambiance 10/3/2010

I like to go here every now and than to get the cafe intermezzo and have some tiramisu. It gets busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait if you have a large party. Great experience if you are from out of town. Would totally recommend it. more

A Great Find 3/22/2010

My wife and I came upon this restaurant by fate. We were planning on eating lunch at another restaurant that is located in the same development, but was closed. As we walked by the open patio seating for Cafe Intermezzo, we got a quick look at some of the dishes others had ordered, and they all looked good, so we ended up trying them out. We were both very pleased that we did. The food, service, and atmosphere were all great. I tried a simple mushroom-onion-spinich omlet that was perfect. Not overcooked or undercooked, and full of flavor. The best thing we had was the orange crepe. Wow, that was the best tasting dessert I have had in a long time. Every bite was a pleasure. We will definately be making this restaurant one of our regular stops when we visit Atlanta. Pros: Quality of food more

Party of six 2/28/2010

Arriving as a party of six with a fwe parys of four and deuces ahead of us. Told wait would be 15 minutes. After 25 minutes and 6 to 8 partys including a six after After addressing the staff and asking for their honesty they said it is hard to predict, maybe 10 to 15 minutes wait... We left. 30 minutes later we got the call to be seated. Total wait an hour. Limo waiting $100 bucks. worth it? Not. Pros: Smells good Cons: Poor Management more

Great Place for Coffe 12/26/2009

We went for a dinner a night a go and there we are seted by a General Manager Jacob. They realy care about the service which is more then nice, but how about the food?Same thinghs are going on ecxept the cook line wich is terrible in mixing any good spices whit no common sense. In some case they even don't know which one makes the dish real.I love the Crepes there but a spanish crapp cake hes it's horribly taste thanks to basil aoly souse which kills the whole dish. Pros: Best service ever! Cons: Great Choice of Food ,but Poor taste more

We eat everything ,but that place rocks 12/17/2009

We went for a diner five times ,but all that we got is a memories of good cakes also nice people around and great atmosphere which is very close to European one .I love the music they play every now and I am very impressed of the way they do the business.Drinks are inexpensive ,but I can't tell the same for the food which is the biggest deal of my visit. No spices at all or too mach garlic on my side dish salad which comes with the spicy hummus platter. Pros: best selection of drinks Cons: The food is .................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Great Ambiance & Perfect Date Setting 11/10/2009

Best part of Cafe Intermezzo is the setting. Dim candle light guarantees and romantic or intimate rendez-vous. Pros: Great Ambiance, Stay as long as you like Cons: Not the Best food but you can find something to eat more

Mold on my cake! 7/20/2008

We went there last night for dessert and drinks after dinner at Eclipse de Luna. Service was a little slow even though there were hardly anyone there. First, my friend's tea cup was dirty and it took them a long time just to bring her another cup. Then when the desserts finally came ($7.85 per piece of cake!), mine had mold on it and the other two tasted a little stale! We couldn't believe it! We won't be returning again that's for sure! Pros: Outdoor seating Cons: Mold on dessert and expensive to boot! more

Worst Service I've Ever Received 3/19/2008

I just went to Cafe Intermezzo today for a friend's bridal shower. Although we called ahead for reservations a week before, the wait staff acted clueless and could find no record of our reservation. Despite the fact that there were only two other people in the restaurant at the time, they acted like they were doing us a favor by setting up a table for 9 ""on the spot."" Once we were seated, solicitors selling makeup products (in a restaurant???) came in and to my horror, rather than send them away , our waitress looked at their products and did nothing as they approached our table to pitch their bogus makeup to us. Even though we kept repeating that we were not interested in their makeup and were annoyed that they were even trying to sell things to us, the waitress did nothing to remove them from the restaurant. Pros: Bathrooms are very nice Cons: Horrible Service more

Worst experience ever 2/17/2008

I called into intermezzo to pickup 5 coffees as we were in a hurry. I was assured it would be ready in 10 minutes. Upon arrival I was directed to two separate bar areas and no one seemed to know where I could pick up my drinks. I finally was told the bartender just put in my order ""For MY convenience so the coffee could remain WARM"". Ater delaying me further by 15 minutes they handed my my coffee. Upon checking the coffee's they were all missing the main ingredient Butterscotch. I went back to talk to the manager, who promptly gets into a yelling match with the rude disgruntled employee who makes the drinks. The employee screams that there is no more butterscotch - why she failed to let me know before I paid $5 for each drink I have no idea. But the manager tells her to make me a comparable drink to which the employee refuses and delays me by another 20 minutes. I used to love to go here because of the quality of the product/drinks but the service is starkly lacking and the level of incompetence and insubordination is unbelievable. Do not go here if you are expecting an overall pleasing experience. more

Take a date! Take a date! Take a date! 1/14/2008

This place is for couples. The dim lighting, along with fruit, cheese, and great wine makes the perfect date place. It also has a drink menu out of this world, it really is something for everyone. And the desserts are awesome. This is a great place to start or end a night. Pros: The ambience and drink menu more

Great late night desert bar and well worth the wait! 7/10/2007

Cafe Intermezzo in Dunwoody was great: Food, service, wait for seating, everything. Pros: Great late night desert bar. Beautiful Eurpoean cafe ambiance Cons: Lots of smokers crowding the entrances to the restaurant. Service can be inconsistant. more

For your late night sweet tooth 11/18/2006

The cafe is located across Perimeter Mall and its almost a hidden secret. There's a garden in the middle of the shopping center if you wanna walk around. Its a very romantic and unique place to be. They have the best deserts and an incredible huge selection of coffee and drinks from around the world! They also have a dinner menu with delicious selections. The ambience is like a French cafe. They close late around 1am-2am! Be careful trying all those drinks, it can get a little expensive. Pros: Late night, romantic atmosphere, great food/drinks Cons: tough on the budget more

Not for typical Americans 6/18/2006

I am so disturbed looking at these poor reviews. I have been going to Intermezzo for about 12 years and it has always been a great European escape. The beverage menu is over 40 pages with an excellent selection of rare spirits, 30+ types of martinis and beers from around the world. Not to mention pages of exquisite espresso drinks and a tasty variety of appetizers and desserts. I can't tell you how many times I have overheard obnoxious Americans complaining about their waters not being filled and how they have to wait. Then you can't help but notice all of the Europeans, sipping on their beverage of choice and enjoying great conversation or a good book. It is sad to see the Americans rush, rush, rush...inhaling their food and not taking the time to enjoy the atmosphere and relax. What's the hurry? I myself am an American, so I can only imagine how annoying we seem to the Europeans. True, the service is not extremely fast but that is all part of the European kauffeehaus concept. I often enjoy chatting with the employees and I have met some very interesting people from all over the world. The waitstaff and management are quite friendly and mostly European, and have some very interesting stories if you just take the time. They sometimes have French lessons playing in the bathroom and also a display on the inside of beautiful photos taken all around the world. If you walk around the cafe, you will hear about five or six different languages being spoke amongst the diverse customer base. It is very romantic and charming. So yes, I highly suggest visiting Intermezzo, but if you are a typical American...the Starbucks drive-thru is more your speed. Pros: Atmosphere, diversity, drink selection. Cons: None. more

Great Concept, Poor Execution 5/21/2006

Intermezzo is the only place in Atlanta to get a truly European feel in a cafe. The ambience is superb, and the drink selection is wonderful, though pricey. You can enjoy top shelf liquors as well as wordly beers here. Unfortunately, the service is also very European, meaning nearly non-existent. If you're the type of person that gets annoyed the second your water glass is empty, stay away. If you are looking for a laid-back evening of good taste, you will enjoy Intermezzo. more

Just as bad as the original 5/5/2006

We have had so many bad experiences at the original Cafe Intermezzo; we thought this location might be better. The waitstaff are as inattentive and rude here as they are on Peachtree. It took forever for the waiter to come over. There were two other waitresses standing around talking whose attention i couldn't get until I walked over to the counter. When the waiter finally came over, he misunderstood me, and brought the wrong thing. When the bill came, I had been charged for his mistake. Furthermore, as another reviewer described, the waitstaff wouldn't make eye contact with us, so I couldn't flag one of them down. I even considered leaving without paying we waited so long for the bill. I will never, ever, patronize either location again. Cons: Service more

Extremely Bad Service!! 9/22/2005

I hosted a group of 19 at Cafe Intermezzo last night. We could not make advance reservations due to the fact that this restaurant requires a $5 per person deposit for large parties!!! That said, we didn't expect stellar service - what we got was atrocious! The food came out sporadically and the waitress did not check on us or offer any explanation as we all sat w/empty drinks and no water. At times she ignored us completely...walking by our table and looking the other way so no one could flag her down...the whole time 2-4 other wait staff were standing around doing nothing!!! I did want to try their dessert...unfortunately she never came back to take my order. I won't be returning! Cons: Service, Service, Service more

GREAT CHEESECAKE 6/6/2004

My friend and I visited Cafe Intermezzo about 3 weeks ago after dinner. We really enjoyed the ambience and especially enjoyed the sweet potato cheesecake-a great twist on cheesecake. more

Great Desserts - Terrible Service 2/9/2004

If only the wait staff would rate half as good as its dessert and drink menu, this place would be a favorite. Unfortunately, even its tantalising array of desserts on display, its long list of speciality drinks menu and its late night hours are not enough to make up for its service. I love coffee shops and desserts and thought I had found the perfect place when we stumbled on Cafe Intermezzo in Buckhead at 1am in the morning. The place was buzzing with life and after a 20 minute wait, we were seated. It was crowded but the dim lighting made for a romantic atmosphere. The service was terrible, not only was there a long wait for just drinks, there was a long wait for the check! The Dunwoody location did not fare better in service rating. One would think for a sophisticated establishment, service would be a priority. Pros: dessert selection, drink selection more
