Not for typical Americans 6/18/2006

I am so disturbed looking at these poor reviews. I have been going to Intermezzo for about 12 years and it has always been a great European escape. The beverage menu is over 40 pages with an excellent selection of rare spirits, 30+ types of martinis and beers from around the world. Not to mention pages of exquisite espresso drinks and a tasty variety of appetizers and desserts. I can't tell you how many times I have overheard obnoxious Americans complaining about their waters not being filled and how they have to wait. Then you can't help but notice all of the Europeans, sipping on their beverage of choice and enjoying great conversation or a good book. It is sad to see the Americans rush, rush, rush...inhaling their food and not taking the time to enjoy the atmosphere and relax. What's the hurry? I myself am an American, so I can only imagine how annoying we seem to the Europeans. True, the service is not extremely fast but that is all part of the European kauffeehaus concept. I often enjoy chatting with the employees and I have met some very interesting people from all over the world. The waitstaff and management are quite friendly and mostly European, and have some very interesting stories if you just take the time. They sometimes have French lessons playing in the bathroom and also a display on the inside of beautiful photos taken all around the world. If you walk around the cafe, you will hear about five or six different languages being spoke amongst the diverse customer base. It is very romantic and charming. So yes, I highly suggest visiting Intermezzo, but if you are a typical American...the Starbucks drive-thru is more your speed. Pros: Atmosphere, diversity, drink selection. Cons: None. more
