Editorial review from Citysearch 9/6/2012

Don't understand why this is so popular. Have been there for both brunch and lunch and both times the wait was long and the food was below average. Maybe people in Houston simply don't know what American food should taste like. I'm disappointed in this place. more

For 'those' mornings... 3/31/2010

There are just some mornings when you need a Tex-Mex breakfast dish accompanied by a side of fluffy pancakes and bottomless coffee for under $10 in a pleasant but bustling setting. I?m not sure why, but sometimes you just do. On those mornings, Buffalo Grill is the place to go. Sure, you could easily whip this up at home at a better quality, but not without dirtying too many pans and reaching the bottom of the pot of coffee. There is also something refreshing about the masses of families that pack into this place on any given Saturday morning. You get the feeling that many of these people grew up on this place and will continue as regulars for years to come. Servings are more generous than you will expect for the prices (it IS counter service, after all) so I suggest ordering a few items to share amongst a group so that everyone gets some sweet and salty. Our usual is an order of chilaquiles, pancakes and peppered bacon, which is more than enough for two. A seat outside on the sidewalk is worth waiting for if you can get it but if that fails then head to the covered patio out back, as the main part of the restaurant is far too busy. It will leave you rushing through your food and your dessert will be an inevitable headache. Heed this advice and Buffalo Grill may be just what the doctor ordered. more

Brunch 3/23/2010

Whether it is after an epic party, after going to church, or meeting your girlfriends family for the first time, this is the right place to do it. With a wide selection of inexpensive breakfast items, this restaurant has something perfect for everyone. I love brunch, and I love the community dining experience that goes with it. I always go with the french toast, hot chocolate, and a side of bacon, but my friends go crazy for the pancakes and the omelets. It's always a good scene with quality food, but if you aren't there to get in line at the opening, you might be waiting a while to get something to eat. You have been warned! Pros: Inexpensive, Decent Cons: Crowded more

Waste of Money, terrible food 3/3/2010

There were some bad reviews on this place, but we thought we would give it a chance. My husband and I were both completely disappointed. The biscuits and gravy were terrible. The biscuits were mass produced, tasteless wads of carbohydrates, the gravy was flour paste with pepper in it, no flavor, no sausage. The french toast was a cold, terrible slice of bread with powder sugar all over to mask how bad it was. The hashbrowns were so laden with grease that I felt sick after eating about 1/5 of my serving. My husband hated his omelette because it was so dry. The only good thing was the cinnamon coffee, but this was not worth the $25.00 we spent on breakfast. I don't know how this place is in business. Those who wrote a review saying it was good, must think IHOP is also fine dining. Don't waste your money here. Pros: It serves breakfast all day Cons: Tasteless, unappetizing food, over priced more

Nice breakfast 1/25/2009

As mentioned in other reviews, the wait in line was a little long and made you wonder if you were going to be able to find a seat. I went with my girlfriend and I ended up having a special, some pork tomales with eggs and green sauce. It was pretty good. We also had a large peach pancake with the cinnamon coffee. It wasn't horrible expensive, about $13 each for plenty of food. They do breakfast food fine and have an interesting ambience, so I enjoyed it enough that I definitely plan on eating there again sometime. Pros: decent food, average price Cons: waiting in line more

just not good anymore 1/22/2009

I live walking distance from this place and heard the breakfast was really good. The first time I went, the food wasnt very good, but since i live close, I have decided to try it out again. Ive been there 5 times, and I am WAY over my limit with this place. The last time I went in, they got my order wrong, I went to the counter and let them know, they went through the old tickets as the manager, possibly owner yelled at the girl at the counter in front of me. She looked scared as she told him, she said number 5, which I know I didnt. I got no apology out of the guy, no, it will be a couple minutes, he just took the plate and I just stood there, 3 or 4 minutes later the food came out. Every time I go there, something goes wrong. My food was wrong, my mother threw up after she had a spinach omelet, I was charged twice for 1 coffee, its WAY overpriced, the service is terrible! The same man has been there every time I have gone, older guy that gives the food to the people. If you are the owner, do yourself a favor and hire a manager or a sweet little teenager that will smile and say thank you, enjoy your food. The french toast and the coffee are good, but everything else I have tried has been just ok, and thats being nice. The hispanic woman that cleaned off my table was really sweet. I think this place use to be good, and I think the only reason people still go is because its the only close breakfast place that isnt a chain in the West U area. Such a bummer. Pros: coffee, french toast Cons: everything else more

They pulled the Old Switcharoo... 1/6/2009

I had lunch with a friend here yesterday, and I am still laughing to myself about the whole thing.. Pros: Great neighborhood location... Cons: Attention to the orders.... more

Good but wouldn't rave about it! 12/17/2008

We just went for lunch and although it was busy we did find parking and got seated pretty easily. The casual ambience and staff were both nice. We all enjoyed our food and it was good value for money. I just wouldn't rave about it. I had the lunch special - King Ranch Chicken casserole which was more filler than chicken and if you don't like your onions under cooked you wouldn't like this. Hubby had the chicken fried steak which was big enough for too and tasty. None of us loved their fries, but their veggies and corn bread were very good. Our favorite thing was the mac 'n cheese - really loved that. Pros: value for money Cons: parking more

Rude and never get the order right! 10/24/2008

I'm through with going to Buffalo Grille. We've only gone for breakfast and we've had it with being treated second rate! The plate was so sloppy...food hanging off the side. When I went back to the counter because my order was wrong I was greeted with a snappy, ""what is it?"" When I explained the hash browns were undercooked, no joke, the guy rolled his eyes at me and then slid other hash browns on the plate that were no different than the first. While trying to get utensils, the manager was on the ground stocking napkins in the cabinet. Do you think he even bothered to move? No way! Though I said excuse me, he just continued. Heaven forbid I want to get utensils to be able to eat the slop they served me. Needless to say, this experience is the straw that broke this camels back. Rude, rude, rude. Learn some customer service. And the blaring microphone announcing that your food is ready just grates on you! Glad I won't have to hear it anymore. Cons: Rude. Lacking in customer service more

Customers are second to employees 11/18/2007

Today Buffalo Grille turned into a table service diner. OH BUT WAIT - You need to be an employee to get this service! Typically you stand in line, order your food, find a table, and go to the counter to get your food when it is ready. Granted about 15% of the customers ignore the posted signs and save a table prior to ordering. Okay can't regulate idiots. So I am in line outside (by pharmacy) and I watch as an employee (waits tables) comes out to greet her family of 10. She tells them to sit down and she will serve them. She brings them coffee, juice, and silverware. I get to the counter and tell the old guy what happens. He says ""She doesn't have family"" an employee next to him says yes she does. Then he says oh well she is an employee and if she wants to sit her family that is okay with him. Fine - I am one customer and losing my business is not important to the old guy. Does he have to lie to me? REALLY!!! Then we couldn't find a table - one clears - he comes over to bust the table and tells me (no prompt from me) that this wait staff person has been there for 20 years and if she wants to serve her family from Mexico than he isn't going to say a thing. Okay fine then TAKE YOUR SIGNS DOWN! To top if off, when I got my food, the order was wrong - planned I think! Pros: Food is Fast Cons: Customer service is horrible! more

Decent food but annoying experience... 8/25/2007

I've not been to Buffalo Grille before but had always wanted to try it out. Saturday , 1:30PM. I walked in to a busy atmosphere and stood back from the counter to look at the menu posted up above. Despite obviously not being ready to order, a little woman barked at me sharply ""Do you want something to drink?"" I told her I didn't know yet and backed up a bit more. Finally, I decided on a tuna sandwich and approached the counter. ""DO YOU WANT SOMETHING TO DRINK?!"" I felt like I was being chastised for not having an answer the first time. Pros: Good food Cons: Customer service not quite there, counter staff is annoying more

Best Breakfast in Houston!! Period!! 7/7/2007

This has to be one of the best breakfast I have ever had. I recently discovered this place and wondered why there were so many people in line. Well, it is obvious! I had the Huevos Rellenos w/ Ranchero Sauce, Hash Browns and Pecan Smoked Peppered Bacon. Yah! Baby!! Enough Said! Pros: Best Breakfast In Houston!! Cons: Not one in Austin!! more

Filthy restaurant, you smell like grease, and the food tastes absolutely horrible 7/4/2007

Unless you want quanitity but no quality, this would be the place. They serve a lot of something, but I cannot consider it food. All of their food is greased up. After going here your hair and clothes smell like grease. The pancakes are just a huge but tasteless, the hashbrowns are overcooked, and the toast is rock hard. This place has absolutely no class. As far as the clientel, again Nuvo Rich. If you had any class you would not come to a place that serves quantity, but no quality. Sorry but I wish I could give this place no stars. I think they should put a disclaimer on the door, if you want good service dont come here, if you want food - dont come here, if you want cleanliness- dont come here. This is trailer park food!! Pros: location Cons: Food has no quality, your clothes and hair smell like grease more

not very happy.. actually very dissapointed.. 1/21/2007

jan. 21, 2007... went to the grille for breakfast. i ordered the #3b. scramble eggs with cheddar and chop bacon, hasbrowns, and wheat toast. eggs w/cheese and bacon was average. the hashbrowns i would totally stay away from, i'm serious. run if you have to. the toast must have been laying around till someone ordered them, very soft. "" overrated "" very dissapointing. Pros: breakfast sux more

What a dissapointment! 5/25/2005

Long lines, no where to sit, have to wait on yourself, food average, service below average. more

Best Breakfast I have ever had!! 5/11/2005

If you don't go to the Buffalo Grille for breakfast, you are insane! The food is soooo good! I recommend it to anyone! more

My favorite place!! 11/2/2003

The Buffalo Grille not only has the best food in town, but the best service and atmosphere. John and Brock always give service with a BIG smile :) AND if you go the the Bissonett location, you will see a great picture of the HPD task force located in the heart of downtown (NOT taken in the country side of Simonton, Texas, right john?) The portions of food you get is definately worth the price...take friends and family there on weekend mornings, great place to eat and people watch!! :) Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Overrated 7/16/2003

The news media eats here because it's close. Get out and live a little, there's a lot better breakfasts to be had in this town. You just have to look! Cons: Crowded on weekends, Burnt sausage, Some items are pricey more

Home Style, Texas Style! 5/31/2003

there is so much to tell.. but so little room. they have the best HASH BROWNS in Texas! and tons of fixin's at the condiment bar. it is the perfect place to meet with friends or sit with a good book. but a helpful hint is.. they serve ONLY breakfast on sunday, and close early. Pros: food, lighting, restrooms Cons: lines on weekends, parking, no fries on sunday more
