They have the best Guinness at Rice Village, but the worst service during the day. The waitstaff who is working at lunch time, they are rude and careless. Dinner time is good, nice...

RUDE BOUNCER! 3/12/2007

I can say that in the past I have really enjoyed Brian O's on many occassion. The only problem with this place is one of the bouncers. After a friend's birthday a big group of us decided to go to continue the celebration. My boyfriend and I had a long day and were exhausted! We sat on a couch near the door and had a beer to go along with the great company. My boyfriend put his head back on the couch and at that point a bouncer came and grabbed him and told him to get out bc he was completely trashed and had "passed out." The problem was, he wasn't trashed! So as he tried to reason with the guy, this other bouncer grabbed him and proceeded to try to push him out. Now, my boyfriend, being a very reasonable guy asked him nicely, but sternly to let go, and walked out. As I walked out after him, I said this is bullsh*t and the same bouncer proceeded to pick a fight with ME! I'm all of 5'3 lol. He's like 6'2 6'3... I guess he gets his kicks from trying to pick a fight with a chick in heels or something! He kept saying you have a problem with me!? And of course, I said well, quite frankly a little, you were extremely rude! He started to taunt and say well, why don't you come and tell me to my face behind the rope aka... their patio ... their turf. So my boyfriend again had to say something, and walked up to him and told him he should learn some manners and to not talk to me in that tone etc etc. I love the place, but man if that guy were to have even touched me, things would have not been very nice!!!! Just be careful with that guy and the rest is great! lol.. Pros: great patio, good people watching, great beer Cons: the bouncer.... more

avoid!! 3/7/2007

been a few times-service always bad, food typical fast food, and last St.Patrick's day paid to get in to the mob scene-all barely 21 yrs old (if that) and could'nt get a beer for 20 min....horrible. Much better "Irish" pubs in town more

the best place for happy hour in rice village 11/22/2006

the ambience is your regular beer bar / sports bar scene ... quite spacious and laid-back to accomodate large groups. happy hour is probably one of it's main highlights, with a decent appetizer menu if you ever get the munchies. i've only been here once with a group of friends, but i left satisfied with the drinks and quality of food.* Pros: good happy hour place Cons: parking more

Nice beer selection, alright food, bad service 11/19/2006

I went to this pub for dinner on a Thursday night. The beer was good, but our server kept disappearing, so I only had one refill. I chose this location for dinner because I was in the mood for some traditional Irish comfort food (think dark beer gravy and potatoes - yum!). Instead, I found a menu full of sandwiches and Tex-Mex. In summary, only come for the beer and sit at the bar if you want any service. more

great thursday hh 9/27/2006

On Thursdays they half price appetizers and cheap tapas til 7pm. Not to mention great drink specials. They have a great night scene as well, with drink specials most nights. I definitely want to return on a Thursday after work again soon! Pros: good food, drink specials Cons: n/a more

Luv It 8/20/2006

I'm new to Houston, from Boston (go Red Sox). This place make me feel like home. The staff are great and the prices are super. I will spend a lot of time here. Pros: Service, Price, Food Cons: Parking more

Treated Horrible 1/2/2006

Went there for a huge New Year Party and were treated like we were a nuisance. Wait staff ignored us and the bouncer mistreated us. Demanded we pay a cover when we had a reservation. After He checked didn't appoligize. DONT GO!!!!! Cons: Service more

Great Irish Pub 8/24/2005

The guys are cute. I met Brian and hope that he dumps his girlfriend. more

Superb Pub 8/24/2005

This is a great place, and not just because my last name is O'Neill. It is truly Irish, truly authentic, and a lot of fun people there. And surprisingly, the food is spectacular. Pros: Cold Beer, Food, Service Cons: Parking more

Total Improvement 7/14/2005

A few years ago that spot was a dark dismal alternative Griff's. What a difference! They used all that patio space well, added a window at the end of the bar and opened the place up completely. Before it was dark, smokey and uninviting. Now... Clean, bright and totally inviting. The menu is surprisingly large for a bar but they offer not the typical over fired bar food we all know and hate. Staff is friendly and get to know the regulars by name. Check it out! Pros: Outdoor seating, menu, staff Cons: parking more

Perfect for After Work 4/10/2005

If you get there quickly after work and nab a table on the patio, it is the perfect place to meet friends, have a few drinks, and a really cheap - but really good - dinner. The bar "tapas" menu has huge portions. Their "Mini" cheeseburger (we thought it was going to be like White Castle) is HUGE, and the chicken tacos were amazing. Plus, they all cost something like $2. I am not kidding. What a great deal! more

Rice Grad 12/2/2004

I finally made it back to Houston after 5 years away. It was great to find a true Irish pub in the Village. The staff is gorgeous, friendly and down to earth. It's the coldest beer in town and the prices are very reasonable. I think I will be a regular. Pros: Staff, Beer, Food more

Nice Pub!! 7/24/2004

I just moved from Boston. My friends told me to check out Brian O'Neill's. The food is great, the servers are great (in many ways), and this is they have the coldest Guinness I've ever tasted. Pros: Good Looking Staff, Great Food, Cold Beer more

Great Pub 6/2/2004

I don't usually go out of my way to make comments on a place - good or bad. But, this place really impressed me. The staff are the friendliness bar/restaurant people I have ever met. I love to just hang out and enjoy the atmosphere. I even saw a couple of Houston Rockets there. Definitely try the food - could be a fine dining place if they wanted to. Oh yeah, I want to marry Kevin, or just use him for a weekend or two!! Pros: Staff, Good Looking People, Prices more

This Place Rocks 3/5/2004

I can't believe what a wonderful place this is. My frineds told me to come and I thank them for it. The food was cheap and better than most places in Houston. The crowd was wonderful. Best looking guys around. I can't see how they make money with their happy hour prices. And only a $1 cover on Friday and Saturday for some of the best live bands in Houston. I only wish I had come sooner. Pros: food, bands, drink prices more

Good beer, good food, good service 8/3/2003

We love a leisurely meal, accompanied by a pint or three of Guinness, on the patio here. Service is always down-to-earth and friendly; the manager is especially fun and hospitable. The food is solid --- not haute cuisine, but better than average pub fare --- and the prices are very reasonable. The Sunday fish-and-chips special is a particularly good bargain. Brian O'Neill's is a much-welcomed addition to the Village. Pros: Friendly wait staff, Great prices, Beer & wine selection more

Pretty Cool 7/29/2003

I love coming to Brian O'Neill's. It is run like a mom and pop shop. Everyone is so friendly. The staff seem to have a lot of fun working. Surprisingly, the food is FANTASTIC for an Irish pub. I've been a regular for a while and recommend the place to everyone who visits from out of town. I am glad they are here. more

Bad Ass 7/23/2003

This place rocks. The chicks are soooooo hot!!!! I have met so many great chicks here. I love the bands and the cheap ass prices. If Ireland is like this, I am there!!! Pros: music, food, prices more

  • The Scene
When Brian O'Neill decided to craft his pub in Ireland, ship it to America and assemble it in Rice Village, he wasn't just redefining the import process--he was redefining the Irish pub experience in America. A profound redwood storefront announces this pub from afar. Inside, bric-a-brac detailing the Emerald Isle's rich history is displayed everywhere in museum-like fashion.

    The Draw
With 15 draft beers, 30 bottled beers and enough whiskey to flood Houston, O'Neill knows that to successfully re-create the Irish pub experience, you need lots and lots of alcohol. O'Neill also knows food. Expect more than the typical finger food offered by most pubs. The delicious citrus chicken is unrivaled in its presentation and flavor. Whether it's happy hour, brunch or a weekend night, the bar's always packed with an electrified mid-20s crowd that loves to drink, eat and be merry.
