From a true Brit. Pros: Cozy Cons: Not authentic, automatic 20% gratuity.

Good place to relax! 8/19/2002

Have a pint and play some chess on their giant chessboard outside. Their Shepherd's Pie is my favorite thing on the menu, followed closely by the baked Brie, served with apricot marmelade and pine nuts. Fish and chips are good too. On a chilly winter day, you can sit by the fireplace and enjoy a cuppa. Pros: Inside ambiance, Outside casual, chess board Cons: Mussels inconsistent, Parking more

Relaxed and Inviting 7/24/2002

They deliver exactly what you what expect - good (hearty, not haute) food in an authentic British Pub atmosphere. One of my favorites! Pros: Atmosphere, Location, Bar Cons: Parking more

The Lab is Dying 7/11/2002

To start off, the chips that came with the spinach dip were STALE. We asked for more and the waitress brought us another batch of stale chips. The cheese soup, usually my favorite dish, tasted horrible. After waiting for 30 minutes, my husband gave up on getting his side SALAD! We requested the bill from our waitress and asked for the manager. We had no ill intentions...just figured he would want to know the food was below par. He apologized sincerely (so we thought) and didn't charge us for the salad we never received (how nice of him). We paid for the food we barely ate and while heading out the door we noticed the manager and the waitress laughing about the situation. It's not the money that burns me, it's the death of a pub that HAD great food and good service. We will never go back! Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Management, Quality of Food, Service more

Oi! Eat this! 5/29/2002

I meant to write this review last weekend when I inhaled the Sheperd's Pie for possible the 25th time there but I thought I might take a trip out to Atlanta and try another English brew pub's version for variety's sake. Hands down, the Black Lab's dish pounds the [notnaminganyname]'s attempt into the Manchester turf. Other recommendations: the traditional Scotched Beef or Sole in Its Coffin. Stay away from the Prime Rib. As an added bonus, the waitstaff congenially accepts lame attempts at British accents without ridicule and the beers on tap are on target with the UK theme. The atmosphere is complete with nouveau antiquities but not so gauche as Bennigan's or Friday's. The ivy enclosure, fire engine red phonebooth and outdoor chess game set off the quaint little patio but it is far too close to the already cramped parking area. Pros: Great Service, Good Beers, Inexpensive Cons: Tight Parking more
