Swamp Water !! 4/3/2012

Decided to try this place on 4/01/2012. (This was not an April fools joke). What a horrible mistake we made. The greeter seemed very depressed and unconcerned. She couldn't even muster a fake smile! I decided to order a the seafood gumbo and the frried calamari. My date chose the clackened catfish with baked potato. \r \r The gumbo reminded me of the black liquid that covered the Louisiana coast after the BP explosion. The roux was bitter, over seasoned and doused with chives and pieces of crab shells. The calamari was basically rubber dipped in flour, fried with no seasoning at all.\r \r My dates blackened catfish resembled pieces of coal !! After inquiring about the incinerated catfish, the waiter who seemed to be either drunk or high, explained that the red pepper seasoning applied to the fish darkens while cooking. Apparently the chef doesn't know that blackened means to give the meat a cripsy coating and not a thick layer of burnt seasoning that couldn't be scraped off with a Samurai sword. After notifying the sweaty, rat faced manager about our concerns, he simply refused to offer and form of compensation!\r \r Please note, that I would rather not give the place any type of stars, but its necessary in order to publish my review. But its a small sacrifice if I can save anyone from experiencing what we did.\r \r I can say that the best thing about Bayou City Seafood was the glass of water with lemon otherwise, hands down, this is the absolutely worst place to dine !!!! more

Good Food 6/3/2009

I don't totally agree with the person who wrote a review before me. You may have gone at the wrong time and got the wrong thing. I've been here many times and while I won't say their seafood is the best I've ever had, there are still really good. Try their fried catfish and shrimp next time. Pros: Good seafood. Large portions Cons: some veggetables are straight from a can ...yuk. more

Great place for dispointment 4/6/2009

my husband and i read the reviews about this restaurant on the net in search for great crawfish and to our delight we were very convinced we found the place that would satisfy our craving. we arrived at the restaurant where we were told there would be a twenty minute wait. we were sat within time. however, after sitting there for twenty minutes at a table that was the CLOSEST to the front door and after watching half a dozen waiters walk by us without even making eye contact, it was afterall the horrible food that was being dealt to the table next to us (who sat down after we did) whom also did not have any drinks before being served their dry chalky crab cake appetizer. that was the kicker. we were out...half a block down the street to RAGIN CAJUN were we found everything we wanted in Bayou CIty but failed to find. Anyone thinking about going here just save yourself the time and disappointment and drive a half a block down the street to RAGIN CAJUN where you'll find eternal bliss...\r muckrunna23@live\r Pros: reviews on the net Cons: the actual restaurant itself more

Good food, great service 2/19/2009

We went to Bayou City on Valentine's Day. I read great reviews about the boiled crawfish on this site, so, being from New Orleans, I had to try it for myself. We started off with the crab bisque which was absolutely divine. It was beyond delicious; I highly recommend it to everyone. We also got ten pounds of crawfish to split between the two of us. Unfortunately that was a complete disappointment when compared to New Orleans crawfish. ZERO spice, very bland, and seasoning sprinkled all over the shells. I can't understand what the point of that is. You're not eating the shells... you're eating the tail meat. \r \r That being said, it's just the way crawfish is done in Houston. We had the same experience at Woodrow's. If this is the way you like your crawfish, Bayou City is a great choice. The soup was excellent, the service was great. However, if you are from Louisiana and like the hot and spicy crawfish that burns your mouth, this is not the place. Pros: Great service, good soup Cons: Crawfish not spicy enough for my tastes. more

Delicious Seafood 1/26/2009

Visited this restaurant after several friends told me about how great the boiled crawfish are and was not dissapointed. Although it's early in the season the crawfish were delicious and spiced just right. Was so impressed with the dining experience I later in the week brought a group of co-workers for lunch and everyone raved about the lunch specials and shrimp poboys. I enjoyed the Leslie Salad with jumbo pieces of crabmeat and a cup of gumbo. The atmosphere is friendly and casual and the service was prompt and efficient.\r \r Pros: Excellent Seafood more

Best Crawfish in Houston 1/26/2009

We had our first Boiled Crawfish of the year this past weekend and Bayou City lived up to their reputation again! Also unlike other restaurants the price was affordable at just 3.95lb during the Sunday all day happy hour. Also enjoyed the Gumbo, Oysters and Pasta Liberty. Overall the service and quality of the meal were excellent. Pros: Boiled Crawfish, Gumbo and Pasta all incredible. more

Disappointed 12/30/2008

We chose this restaurant because of its reviews on this site. We were planning on going to the Rajun Cajun, which we love. We were very disappointed with this restaurant. The critical reviews were accurate--the gumbo was good, but very thin. The rest of the meal did not have the cajun spices we hoped and was average and bland at best. My red fish special with blackened sauce was bland, as were the vegetables. The portion sizes were large. My wife described this as a 5 star restaurant for a blue collar man. My grandmother from Bayou Black would describe this place as a fancy place without the much substance. Our waiter was very nice. He asked if we would return---I don't think so. Pros: ambience, wait staff Cons: food was below average, especially for the price more

Really great food and great service 9/18/2008

I've never been disappointed with the food or the service here. Their crab bisque and crawfish bisque is wonderful. Great atmosphere for a date or dinner with friends. Pros: Prime location, great food, great service, reasonably priced more

Best Pastas in Town 6/28/2008

Visited Bayou City Seafood & Pasta last night before heading over to Minute Maid to watch the Sox play the Astros with a group of five friends and as usual the food and service was excellent. Love going to Bayou City with a group because we can sample several appetizers and entrees amongst everyone. Last night we started with sauteed oysters, boiled shrimp, cajun chicken fingers and crabcake appetizers...all were delicious. My gumbo was awesome as usual and my girlfriend had her favorite the crab bisque. For entrees we splitt the pasta justice so we could save room for the peach bread pudding. Our bartender/server Natalie was pleasant and efficient and made a great margarita!! Pros: All the seafood and especially the pastas Cons: Nothing more

Worst Experience Ever! 6/24/2008

I took my wife for her birthday because we heard such great reviews of this place.....but perhaps they went to another place in the area because everything here did not match any of their comments. First of all when we arrived there was nobody to seat us, then someone walked past us(later found out his name was Ron) and informed us to just sit anywhere. We recieved our water almost immediately(only plus of the evening) but was ignored for almost 20 minutes before, I guess there was a problem with the staff about whose section we were sitting in? Once we did finally order and the food was delivered, the order was wrong and the stuffed flounder smelled of amonia! But to top EVERYTHING off, when we left the restaurant and went to our car it had been broken into. So we went back into the restaurant and explained what happened we were asked if we had a cell phone and were instructed to phone the police ourselfs! So again, what a great Birthday night! Thanks Bayou Seafood! Pros: Water service Cons: everything more

Crab Bisque to Die For 6/2/2008

This is the best keep seafood secret in Houston. The food is so good and fresh. I've been telling everybody!!! more

Excellent crawfish boil and seafood entrees 4/24/2008

My husband and I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation from a coworker. We ate at many places looking for great crawfish boil and I have to say this is the best. The boil flavors are full of citrus, low-medium heat, and just right on the salt so that if you wanted to dip the tails in a little extra seasoning you can. We usually go to Ragin Cajun for crawfish when the season comes around but this is a great place to eat for those who love crawfish but also wanted great pasta and rice dishes. We also tried their crawfish bisque (DELICIOUS), lump crab salad with their greek dressing (YUMMY), crab cakes (I would say average on these), and their rice and pasta. We order the small portion but ending up bringing leftovers home. The plate size is pretty decent. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Come by and visit them and have a great dinner. The parking lot and shopping area from outside looks older but inside, I thought that the restaurant looks clean and decorated well. Definitely do not judge this place from the outside. Pros: Excellent crawfish boil, bisque, pasta and rice dishes more

Good cajun food 4/7/2008

Best gumbo and crawfish in Houston. Also, many of their pasta dishes are excellent. Service is generally good. The only drawback is the atmosphere. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Atmosphere more

Two of us had pasta dishes, both huge, even though we had the small serving, and 1 had the Boudain(?), even the Caesar salad was top notch. We had 4 cocktails, a beer, 4lbs of crawfish, plus the 4 other itmes, and the bill was $85. Not bad at all, and everything was delcious Pros: All was good more

Best Crawfish and Gumbo Period. 3/9/2007

I am new to houston and wanted to find some good crawfish. I've been to a few other places and they were alright. When a friend told me about this place I decided to give it a shot. I was amazed by the extensive menu, and when I asked the bartender he said the gumbo was 'the best in town.' He was right, there was so much seafood they put the rice on the side. Not only was the gumbo great so were the crawfish. They were big and seasoning was excellent. This is the best crawfish and gumbo I have ever had in Houston, I will be back for sure. more

Excellent Dining Experience 10/20/2006

I've been going to Bayou City for over ten years now and I just wanted to let others know how much I enjoy their fresh seafood and enjoyable service. The seafood gumbo and the various pasta dishes are always delicious and with an incredible amount of seafood. Whenever I bring someone who has never been to the restaurant they always compliment my choice and usually become regulars themselves. The service and the cuisine are both first rate. My favorite is the Boiled Crawfish and the Sauteed Oysters. Pros: Great Seafood and Service Cons: Nothing more

Highly Recommended!!!! 10/2/2006

Great Food, Great service and reasonably priced. Love the Gumbo and the Sauteed Oysters.\r Don't miss the Peach Bread Pudding. This is the best restaurant for Boiled Crawfish!!! Pros: Service and food quality more

Awesome Seafood and Great Service! 9/9/2006

Dined at Bayou City last night and was treated to an incredible seafood feast. Everything from the seafood gumbo which was overflowing with shrimp, crab and crawfish to the snapper with a shrimp and crab topping was super fresh and delicious. I dined in the bar area and watched the OSU/UT game on their large plasma tv which was cool except that UT lost. Pros: Great Seafood & service Cons: Nothing more
