I love this restaurant! The drinks and food are amazing! My personal favorite is the Limon Margarita. The only one in the area that I know of and taste like no other. I enjoy coming here because of the casual atmosphere. Also, the bartender and waitstaff are very friendly.\r The food is delish...I always order the brisket tacos. This is no ordinary brisket tacos, it is perfect ration of brisket, tortilla, pico de gallo, and guacamole. It will make you a believer.\r As and appetizer we order the flour nachos. There is no other restaurant in Dallas that has does them better then Avila's\r If you have not been to Avila's, I highly recommend you make a trip soon. It is hands down the best Mexican Restaurant in DFW. more

I love this place. I eat here every two weeks. Seriously, their tamales (especially the cheese ones) are great. The pozole is pretty good, but the black bean enchiladas are my favorite. more

Best fajita's in Dallas! 6/15/2011

Great mexican food 6/16/2010

I ate at Availa's yesterday and tried their mole enchiladas. They were great. Best mole in town and the food has gotten better since the reopening. Better specials, more consistent service, full bar. Can't wait to go back for more. Pros: Mole more

Fresh, Delicious Mexican Food 10/24/2009

I don't know what all these bad reviews are about, but would suggest you probably get treated the way you treat other people. The food at Avila's is not ""Tex-Mex"" but Mexican. And it's great. Fresh, flavorful and generous servings. I've been twice in the last week, and had two of the best meals ever. Yes, it's a small place. That's pretty obvious when you drive up, so it shouldn't be a surprise. And the service is a little spotty, but once I gave my waiter a smile and thanked him for a little favor he did for me, I was treated like a queen. I'm planning to become a regular there, and the friends who accompanied me loved it. Be nice, and you'll be treated wonderfully, and the food is amazing. Pros: Great food, great service Cons: Nothing more

We loved it 10/18/2009

First time was impressive, I would suggest ignoring the bad reviews and form your own opinion. We ordered chicken fajitas, chili rellanos, single tamale and queso. Everything was great and left overs were sure as heak taken home. Same cost as anywhere else in town, great portion size on the fajitas and man - can't beat the rellanos. Service is not bad, it's just not great. who cares, i'm there to eat not get the warm fuzzies from a stranger. Highly Recommended, will be back. Pros: great food, atmosphere Cons: service could improve some (but hey, food is great) more

Guy Fierri/Food Network Got It Right!!! 8/12/2009

Guy picked some of the best dishes, but there's more to the place than brisket gorditas, posole and tamales. The chiles rellenos and mole are wonderful. Pollo con calabasa is just like my grandma's. Save room for the bread pudding!!! Pros: Fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned Cons: Not open on Sunday more

Eat somewhere else!!! 8/9/2009

I saw this on Diner's Driver-ins and Dives with Guy Fieri and the Food Network totally screwed me and my family over on this one. Avila's is not for those who grew up eating TRUE tex-mex as this was what you would find like, TAMALES IN A CAN!!! The food was very bland and then at 2am indegestion kicked in!!! McDonald's or Churches or heck hamburger helper would have done the trick but the food is not how my Mexican grandmother would have made it!!! Poor quality to be called Mexcian food!! Pros: Salsa was very good!!! Cons: Everything else wasn't!!! more

Real Mexican food Great Service 8/2/2009

This is the food my grandmother made when I was a kid. If your used to the over spiced over salted food at On the border or other chains this place is not for you. Pros: authentic rice and beans Cons: too far from my house more

Rude waiter - loud restaurant 4/4/2009

I have been to this restaurant about 4 times and had 3 good experiences, but went with friends and had a bad experience. There was some confusion on our order and the waiter became insensitive and hateful to my guests. We made the best of the evening despite the surly waiter, but I am really considering never going back. Restaurant is very noisy. Dont go if you want to have a conversations with your table. Pros: good food Cons: service and noise more

Rude & Incompatent 2/28/2009

So we get to the restaurant and tell them how many we will be seating. The seat us fairly quickly, but after a few minutes of waiting for the rest of our party to show the tell us that they have a large part of 10 coming in soon and that my party of 8(minus 2 people making there to the place) will need to hurry. So after about 10 minutes our remaining party members show and the staff rushed us to place our orders. So we accommodate them. We rush our orders in and while waiting we receive out appetizers of guacamole and queso. Both of which were flavorless, I mean you could have gotten better stuff from Taco Bell or Taco Bueno, So after eating our over priced flavorless appetizers we end up waiting about a total of 45 minutes waiting for our main courses. Ok so we get the food and proceed to try and enjoy our parties company and food, but I have to say that honestly we could have gotten better food from Pancho's Mexican buffet at 1/5th the price. The food is OVER priced as well as overrated by D magazine and Guy Fietti of the Food Network. I will NOT go back for my birthday again next year, nor will I ever return let alone recommend anyone to eat at that closet sized restaurant. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!! I PROMISE YOU'D BE BETTER OFF EATING CONCESSION stand nachos or a frozen mexican style tv dinner. The employees are rude and the food S U C K S!!!!! Pros: Are you kidding? Cons: Bad food, BAD service, I've got a bigger walk-in closet than this place! more

Tried and true mexican food! 1/10/2009

This has quickly become our favorite mexican restaurant. The brisket tacos and tamales are very flavorful. The food is not laden with lard and grease like some tex-mex. If you're vegetarian check out the spinach enchiladas or black bean enchiladas. Margaritas are perfect. Pros: Consistency Cons: Not too big, get there early or late to avoid the crowdsw more

Great Food 12/1/2008

The tamales are great, just like my abuelitas. Not your typical greasy tex-mex. It's a no frills place, but delivers great quality dishes! Pros: Consistently fresh! Cons: Not open for breakfast more

Never had a table bussed into my lap before 11/29/2008

The mole was watery, the chicken in it practically nonexistent. The tortilla soup was weak, the chicken in it completely nonexistent! My MIL waited for tea to be brought the first time...til we reminded twice. Then she waited for a refill, til we reminded twice AND I finally got the attention of [the owner?] and indicated ""the lady has been waiting _quite_ some time."" Pros: Margarita was decent, and pretty fast Cons: Food quality, food quantity, and service level more

Excellent Chile Relleno 12/13/2007

Their chile rellenos are not covered in the egg batter, very light and flavorful. Brisket tacos are great and guiso is too. I've been a fan of the place since I moved here 5 years ago. I tried a lot of the tex-mex places on Maple, but this place was the best!! Pros: Good food, friendly atmosphere Cons: Not open on Sunday or for breakfast on Saturday more

Great Mexican Food 12/13/2007

In it's 20 yr. history it's Avila's consistently served great food! It easy enough to see that the kitchen not only serves up fresh food, but it's impeccable. Don't know what these people are referring to, but we are regulars and by all accounts, including great reviews in the Guide, Texas Monthly, D Magazine, etc., it's a great place. Pros: Consistent and fresh Cons: No margaritas to date, I'm hoping this will change soon. more

DON'T DO IT!!! 6/9/2007

do i start with the insect (rhymes with coach) or the service? i'll start with our very large, unwelcome friend who made a lap and half around the dining room before anyone attempted to get rid of it. MY DATE was the hero of the evening. there was not a single apology to any of the dozen or so customers in the restaurant. and then as if i didn't need a beer bad enough, it was forgotten....twice. no one noticed that my drink hadn't arrived until the check did. it was then scratched off the ticket with.....no apology. more

Would not ever go again!!! 6/9/2007

There was a two inch insect running around at dinner tonight. The owner did not even apologize. Aside from the wonderful four legged friend, the food was bland and tasteless - unheard of for a Mexican restaurant!! It was our first time there and was VERY disappointed. more

From the outside, Avila's looks like a house, with seemingly limited parking (there's more in back). The unassuming exterior hides one of Dallas' most popular Tex-Mex spots....
