Once upon a time... 9/17/2010

...Oh, about 10 years ago As-aya used to have good food with customers lined up out the door. You'd be lucky to get a seat during your lunch break. The sweet little manager was kind, gracious, and was obviously rewarded with cat trinklets from her loyal customers. She was loved by many. A few years ago As-aya underwent new management where the present day cashier is less than gracious and the food is okay (if you like soggy tempura). Don't be fooled by any 5 star reviews! If your real desperate to grub anything taste good. The decor hasn't changed, as there is the same ole cheesy cat trinklets and faded pictures (no offence to the sweet little cat lady). What did change was quality, quantity, and service. First when I arrived today, I was astonished that there was NOT ONE customer in the whole joint. I ordered a bowl of chicken soup (I wasn't feeling good) and hot tea with sugar. The cashier gave me only one pack of sugar. I asked for three more (I know, I know...) then she shakes her head and remarked: ""Sugar bad; it change the taste, it change the taste!"". She only gave me three packages -one at a time no less- and I, not being in a good mood myself opt not to create a scene (even though there wern't any customers), took the three sugars and left it at that. Excuse me, but any fast food is bad for you proven that my bowl of chicken soup had so much sodium in it that I skipped dinner. Note: The whole time I was there, there were no more than two customers sitting down, and occasionally one would walk in and pick up their order. Could it be that they didn't want to clean up after themselves to avoid any reperocussion if they didn't? Another note: You HAVE to bus your own table.\r It was obvious to me why the decline of customers. Next time, I'll grab a bowl of soup across the parking lot at Ronnies (great inexpensive food, friendly staff). Chow. more
