Great Trustworthy Mechanic 4/9/2010

I had my clutch and axle shafts replaced here on my 96 Nissan Maxima. He did great work, took pictures of everything, and there were no surprises. It's now 4 years later and everything he worked on is still working great. Now I'm considering having my water pump serviced here.\r -Michael Pros: Honest, takes pictures of all work done, good rates more

Honesty and Integrity 3/9/2009

I brought my car to APEX for a tune up. I dropped it off in the morning for them to look at it whenever they could that day. In the afternoon I received a call to talk about what I wanted done. I explained what was happening. The owner actually talked me out of a full tune up because he said it wasn?t necessary. He explained what was wrong and how much it would take to fix. Unfortunately, it would cost as much to fix as getting a new engine. He then explained I could drive the car another 40,000 to 50,000 miles before anything would probably happen. He then put me in contract with a shop that could put in a used Japanese engine for only $2500. As I was traveling the first time I brought it in, he had my car for about a week. When I stopped by to pick it up, he told me what needed to be repaired and when the parts were going to be delivered. He spent a lot of time looking at my car and only fixed what needed to be fixed. He didn?t charge me for all the extra time he spent with the car. He even got my emissions paperwork for me.\r \r In my opinion, this is the most honest and reputable shop I have dealt with and I will be bringing all my cars back for any work that needs to be done.\r \r I can't recommend APEX enough. Pros: Honest, reliable, integrity, top quality work more

Above and beyond ! 2/1/2007

I just found myself recommending Apex in another forum, and linking to this site, and realized I should put my recommendation here as well!\r \r The first time I was here I was feeling unsure because its not a great part of town, and I had a little trouble understanding what they were saying due to language barriers> Once I got my car back I was completely impressed. They gave me a printout with photos of the work as they had done it (which acted as proof of work actually being performed), as well as gave me follow up information and tips on other things going on with the car with absolutely no hard upsales. They were also proactive in giving me tips and information on things I could do on my own, again, no sales, just friendly, genuine advice. After that I called a few times with questions they were more then happy to answer, and even brought the car back a couple times (per their request to see it) and they looked under the hood/did minor adjustments without even a thought of charging, and told me what to watch for as far as an actual concern. \r \r The other part that really impressed me was picking my car up at 11pm. I wasn't picking it up so late because it took him so long (I actually wasnt even expecting it until the next day), but because he stayed that late working on it. It was also a great convenience for someone like me who works late, to be able to pick it up that night. He was still working on other cars when I picked mine up, so I asked him if he preferred working late- you know, coming in late and staying late- and he laughed and said ""oh no, no, of course not, I have been here since 10am (which i knew because thats when i dropped my car off) but people, they need their cars back."" I have never had an experience like that with a car shop, so willing to go above and beyond. Finally, his price quotes are low, and theres no surprises when its time to pay. Great job Apex! Pros: Expertise, customer service, attention to detail Cons: Sketchy area of town, not really any comfortable waiting area. more

Apex 10/13/2005

If you have to have your car serviced right away, or if you insist on a clean waiting area, this may not be your shop. Because he is such a rare individual, Mr. Matsuda's shop is always busy. On two occasions, mr. Matsuda has completely blown me away. He replace the timing belt on my '92 Accord Wagon twice, because there was an oil leak after the first try. The new belt apparently stressed some seals that he thought did not need replacing. He repaird it again for free, including the new seals. He worked on an unexpectedly difficult brake job until 7:00 in the morning because I had to be at a friends wedding in Tahoe the next afternoon. He even gave me a ride home. Once again, I was in awe. more

An honest mechanic - wow! 10/19/2002

Apex Auto is the place to go for your car repairs. Mr. Matsuda knows his stuff and -- would you believe it -- will not charge you for unnecessary work. Especially with our older cars, he'll explain what our service options are. There are a couple of potential drawbacks: he usually starts around 10 a.m. (choosing to working late), and you may not get your car back the same day. BUT, to find a great, honest mechanic is worth overlooking these small flaws. Pros: Honest, Fair pricing, Knowledgeable more
