Yea, it was a good sandwich, but paying over 7 dollars for a sandwich is nowhere near worth it in my mind. The sandwich's taste was forgettable and, additionally, the sandwich was...

For anyone who knows real cooking (cuisine, in French), this is the place. There is a wait, sure. But to say the place stinks because of the wait is a Yogi Berra comment: sure, people could just go next door and get a sub sandwich (not even that bad) at Rollin' in the Dough, but they wait and wait for Bob's creations. My advice: pass up the chocolate chips in the window for the macarons in back. They are the real...deal. more

Sandwiches with attitude 9/10/2006

Al's Deli came recommended by a friend of mine so my girlfriend and I optimistically stopped by for some lunch. It's a cool place - feels like a little piece of France but the employees working that day were really rude. In my book, service comes first. Average sandwiches can taste like terrific sandwiches with the right people serving them. My girlfriend asked one of the men working what kind of turkey they were using and he rolled his eyes and muttered something that we couldn't understand. She also asked if she could have a sample of the chili before ordering a bowl. They said "no." It's a shame because we'll never go back there and it has the potential to be a really neat place. more

wonderful little shop 3/16/2006

I love this restaurant, hands down. I am not really a sandwich kind of person, but wow this place made really delicious sandwiches and the portions are really filling. They also have a lot of foreign (namely french) drinks, cookies, snacks, etc that make this place stand out from the typical sandwich shop (potbelly's, quiznos, subway). The service isn't the fastest and because of it's small size it can get crowded around lunchtime but it is totally worth the wait. more

simple but delicious 9/29/2005

Al's Deli is truly a gem. It's not that noticeable if you happen to be on Noyes Street, but once you find it, you'll keep coming back. They have sandwiches on baguette, croissant or other breads. My favorite is the baguette. They use really high quality cheese and meats so they don't need lots of crazy toppings like other sandwich places have. Unless you're really hungry, you'll only need a half sandwich. The soup and 1/2 sandwich combo is a good deal and their soups are delicious. Oh and the chocolate chip cookies are to die for! It can get crowded there especially on weekends sometimes and they close early but it is worth making the effort to get there. more

Cute small sandwich shop 8/17/2005

Al's deli makes you feel as if you're in a little sandwich shop in the countryside of France. It's got an old and small town feel to it that I like. There are about 3 or 4 small round tables,so it's a nice place to go with one other person, unless you're getting it to go. The sandwiches are pretty good, and everything is about $6 or $7. They bake cookies and bread fresh daily, which is also nice. more
