Best

I do like their new happy hour special, better price and value. great drink........ :)!!!!! more friendly service & management.......... love this place..........

Worst

The food is decent, but overpriced and the customer service is just awful. Consistently awful, I'm not talking just once or twice. Who are they hiring? Pros: Decent sushi. ...

Bad for Groups 10/17/2006

Went to Zake with a group of 15 friends. Service was AWFUL. Obviously the waitress decided that since they were including 18% gratuity to our tab, she was not going to work hard. She took two of our orders and then walked away. She messed up one order and blamed us for it, and because we all ordered at different times we all ate at different times. Pros: Bar Menu, Sushi is ok Cons: Service, large groups are treated badly. more

Never Again! 10/8/2006

We were planning a girls night out with about 7 of us, so I called to see if we needed reservations. I was told no and that the wait would only be about 30 minutes. Upon arrival, we were told that there were 2 parties of 30 ahead of us and it would take 45 minutes to an hour, which was fine because we found a table in the lounge area. We had a round of drinks and asked again about the table since it had now been over an hour. Of course, we were told that we were next on the list. We saw about 5 other tables get sat with 2 or few people at them and questioned the manager about our table for a third time, we were told that they don't put tables together! After waiting 2 hours with no table in sight, I again approached the manager who just shrugged it off. We didn't get comped for our drinks and never got a piece of sushi!!! Upon leaving I found out that the Atami sushi restaurant in Katy is also managed by the same guy, which is unfortunate for them because I live in Katy and eat sushi about 3 times a week. Needless to say, I won't be going to either restaurant again, nor will any of my friends. Pros: Fun atmosphere Cons: Terrible service/management more

???? 5/8/2006

alright, let me start off by saying that besides the fact the place is a little on the trendy side, the fuss isn't worth your time. One of the worst experiences i've had. For one, the sushi takes a while to come out, granted sushi takes time to prepare but 45 minutes to an hour is a little ridiculous. After the food came out, the order was wrong which the waiter was more than happy to fix. After getting our food half an hour later i ask to speak to the manager who was a complete idiot. He was pissed off at something or someone and didn't seem to care about what we had to say. over all, bad experience but server tried. Pros: service Cons: management, food, parking more

Hip Happy Hour Sushi 4/23/2006

Zake has a trendy interior and euro-flavor music on its speakers. A good place to unwind for happy hour with your co-workers. The sushi is average and priced reasonably, best to go with the Special Rolls which have more flavor and presentation. The service was average; it was early in the evening and there were few patrons to test the mettle of the server. Pros: good portions, ambience, parking more

Loved my visit.... 3/9/2006

I have moved to Austin in the past year and make it back to Houston every so often to visit with friends and family. When my friend mentioned this place, I was game. Walking up to the restaurant the music was thumpin. It was like walking into club where they serve sushi. The whole atmosphere was AMAZING!! Sitting down in the back and looking up to see the DJ was an experience I will not soon forget. The sushi was fresh and the drinks were good. I wish there was a place like this in Austin. I totally recommend this place. The only downfall was the server. He could've been a little more attentive, but thank goodness there was another one who saw what a bad job he was doing, and picked up the slack. Overall, will definitely come back my next time in town. Pros: Music, Food, Ambiance Cons: Service more

Easily one of my faves 3/7/2006

I've gone a couple of times, and where I sat made all the difference in atmosphere. Up front by the bar is a more quiet, typical restaurant vibe. In the back is a scene - hot decor, hot music - more clubby vibe. Love the decor, love the music, love the crowd. Last time, we had so much fun, we kept ordering courses, and our waitress was very patient and helpful. The food was all great. It's one of my fave Saturday-night spots! Pros: excellent atmosphere, good food & drinks, good waitstaff Cons: tricky parking, smoky by the bar more

Love the happy hour! 3/5/2006

sushi and sashimi is great! especially the super white tuna and unagi. during happy hour, prices are especially reasonable- average of probably $15 a person, depending on what kind of rolls you get. even if you don't get rolls, the grilled sea bass is very good. music sometimes gets loud, but is never distracting. lighting is wonderful and the atmosphere is great. definitely recommend this place for high quality sushi. Pros: great food, easy parking, nice atmosphere more

Okay - not sure if I'd go again 10/26/2005

Good things: sushi was very good; salmon sashimi was amazing, rolls were creative and different and very good. I also had a lychee martini which was fun and great. The ambience is more clubby - dark lights, music. I like the decor alot - very mod Bad things: Service was pretty bad. Waitress was not friendly; she forgot my drink until I had to remind her, food was fairly slow in coming; waitress really did not check up on us. Overall, food was very good, but service was poor enough to make me doubt going back again. I might try again - maybe another server would be friendlier. Pros: good sushi, nice ambience Cons: poor service more

  • In Short
A mix of couples and sushi devotees sit at the ample bar area at the front of the restaurant. In the main dining area, cozy booths reside alongside the rowdy hibachi section. Twinkling fiber-optic lights and throbbing dance music add to the modern lounge atmosphere. Popular appetizers include the zakeviche--snapper, tuna and salmon served seviche-style--and phyllo shrimp. Signature rolls like hot damn and the Soprano enliven the varied and authentic Japanese and sushi menu offerings.
