Good food and service 9/7/2011

My wife, father-in-law, and I ate there Tuesday night, 9/9/11, and were pleased. My wife and her father each had rainbow trout and veggies. I took a bite of the fish and found it to be good. My wife and her father were both pleased, as well. They said that the vegs ( broccoli for one, corn for the other) were good. I didn't try theirs. For my part I had a French Dip and onion rings. The sandwich was very good with plenty of meat, but the 8 onion rings were not worth the $7 that we paid for them. Otherwise, it's worth going back for another meal. more

Circa 1960's, So-So 2/22/2011

Upon entering the Wedgewood Broiler I was immediately taken back to the 50/60/70's era of the local All-American restaurant and lounge. The menu offered everything including hamburgers, steak, broiled and deep fried seafood, salads, chicken fried steak, French dip, London broil, to liver and onions. Seemed like the menu probably hadn't changed in 50 years or so. The atmosphere was definitely old school but pleasant enough. Service was OK but nothing to write home about. The dirty saucers didn't help. Unfortunately the food was rather disappointing. A nice touch is that the Broiler offers their Sirloin, New York and Filet Mignon steaks in four sizes; 6, 8, 12 and 16 ounces. My medium rare Filet Mignon was very good quality, cooked perfectly inside, but arrived almost cold with very little searing/browning on the outside as if it had been cooked over too low a fire. The fries were fine but my included salad consisted of a medium sized plate of somewhat wilted lettuce and nothing else. The Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing was not very tasty. The included vegetables were overcooked and soggy as if they had been sitting in a steamer for a long time. My side order of sauteed mushrooms were delicious. My wife's seafood platter was just OK and typical old style deep fried cooking; not lightly cooked, delicate or flaky. Overall, our experience was so-so and we would not give it a high recommendation to others. The Wedgewood Broiler has some old time charm with that nostalgic subdued light and brick/wood atmosphere. However, a couples notches up in attention to detail of the freshness and preparation of the food would be very welcome. This would be the perfect place to take Uncle Fred and Aunt Hilda who have lossed there taste buds but long for the good old time dining experience. more

Family friendly restaurant - Love it! 10/26/2010

Family Friendly, family owned! This place is a current day restaurant with a bit of the old school charm. Prime rib is yum! The staff is friendly and the owners even friendlier! Reminds me of the small town cafe I used to go to every Sunday after church with my family. Love it! more

Tasteless and expensive 5/6/2010

We've dined here twice and both occasions (one year apart) were below average experiences. Service is slow and for the food they serve, better off going to Applebees! Pros: lots of parking Cons: smells like smoke, bad service, dirty bathroom more

My favorite restaurant 12/1/2009

My family and I drive from EVERETT every chance we get. to eat here. This is absolutely my favorite restaurant. Great service, everything on the menu is delicious, especially the French Dip. I would so recommend this place and wish I lived closer. Pros: Best French Dip I have ever had Cons: Drinks really strong more

Best Bloody Mary In Seattle 1/1/2009

The last reviewer is wrong and/or has terrible taste. Wedgwood Broiler has the best bloody mary in the city. Heavy on vodka and light on the horseradish and Worcestershire, just the way I like it. And the food is way better than Denny's. Order the London Broil, French Dip, Pott Roast or open-faced turkey or pork sandwich smothered in gravy and you're in for comfort food heaven. And the bar is the classiest joint 1976 ever saw. Sink into the couch at table 11, sip a stiff drink and you'll forget the rest of yuppified Seattle ever happened. Pros: Cheese-Its on the salad Cons: It's not closer to my house in Ballard more

Good taste 12/11/2008

My boyfriend and I were in the mood for some ""comfort food"" and we heard this was the place to try. Needless to say, we won't try it again. Service was ok but the food was mush. Leave your dentures at home, your gums should work just fine. more

Big value, little price! Pros: prices Cons: big portions more

Highly over rated...below average food 8/12/2008

I have lived in this neighborhood for over 20 years and the food at the ""broiler"" is so tired. Their menu has not changed in any meaningful way in the last 20 years. Most of the servers have been there on average of 15-20 years and the majority of them are cranky. The service is subtandard as well. I can't imagine why it is on the ""Best Steaks in Seattle"" list. The food is more ""institutional"" than anything else. The only ""fresh"" vegatable they have is broccoli, all their other veggies come out of a can. What a joke. I don't mean to rip on the food, but there are so many other restaurants in the neighborhood that are so much better, the only reason to go to the Broiler is for their libations. The bar is where it's at.... the Broiler has Cristy and Kathy who are the real reason most come to this establishment. They free pour the drinks and you always get your monies worth especially during Happy Hour. more

I love this place -- reasonably priced, but excellent beef 3/23/2008

Ragu Boy must have a chip on his shoulder (and no, I'm not an employee -- just a satisfied customer). This place has excellent hamburgers, and some of the best reasonably-priced steaks in town. It's certainly not fancy, but their hamburger dip is simply perfect (definitely my favorite) and the chicken fried steak is the best I've found in Seattle. We always eat in the bar (not the restaurant) and the waitresses know us by name and are always great. Pros: High-quality food at reasonable prices Cons: Not fancy -- don't go there expecting The Met more

One of the best hamburgers in Seattle? I don't think so 3/17/2008

Citysearch readers rated the hamburgers here as no. 10 on the Best of Seattle list. Wow! What were you thinking? Maybe Wedgwood employees write a lot of reviews? Pros: I lived to write this review Cons: food, service, atmosphere, value more

Excellent 10/25/2007

When I lived in Seattle I ate at the Wedgwood Broiler almost daily. The food is always excellent. The Monday Night London Broil special is the best. However, They serve London Broil every day. Most of the waitresses have been at the Wedgwood Broiler for more than five years and the service is always excellent. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. more

Nice Staff!!! 7/11/2007

I work in lawn care and travel all over Seattle, we came to this place for lunch on a Monday and they had a Mexican food special, i had the enchilada's and they were great coming from a steak house type of place, i gotta say it's A+ good! staff was fast about getting our food, and you get to see the cook's prepare your meal which i thought was really cool. we had no complaint's! Pros: Fast service! Good Monday special! more

Where your grandparents used to take the family for a fancy Sunday dinner 2/13/2007

I didn't really know what to expect when we went to the Wedgwood Broiler. I thought it might be like The 13 coins restaurant, which is cool in a kitschy kind of way. However, it turns out that the Wedgwood Broiler is NOT a place for a big crowd of 20-somethings looking for a retro night. This place is for families with kids and for older folks looking to a 'nice' meal out. Pros: Nice staff, kid friendly more

best customer service and great sunday nights 2/11/2007

it feels like you are at home when eating there. all the serves make you feel like you have been friends forever. the food is like home cooking. it like you mom or dad did the cooking for you. thursdays and sunday nights in the bar are the best days to come in on. thursdays you can get tacos for two dollars or a huge taco salad for eight. sunday nights at 9:30pm its trivia. its free and you can win prizes. its a great thing. Cons: parking (small lot) more

Are you kidding me? 11/26/2006

I recently ate at the Wedgewood Broiler and I'm not impressed at all. It's pretty apparent to me that all these good reviews written about it are probably written by the owners or someone who works there. I had a burger and it was served cold. I also got one of their supposedly good Bloody Marys and it was basically tomato juice with a little vodka in it. It took a long time for the food to come out as well. The place is basically a half step above Denny's only more expensive. The wait staff was friendly so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Pros: Friendy waitress Cons: Lousy food, poor Bloody Mary, long wait time more

Tastiest Burgers Ever! 8/19/2006

A friend and I went to the Wedgewood Broiler primarily based on the high ratings here on Citysearch, and they are totally right. The establishment definately had that small-town, on the side of the road diner feel, in a big city. We were seated promptly, the staff was very courteous, making sure that our tea and soda were always suffiently filled. more

Great American food 8/15/2006

My husband and I just moved to the neighborhood and with all the moving, cleaning and painting, we didn't have time to shop or cook. We had read about the Wedgwood Broiler on CitySearch and thought we'd give it a try. We ate there 4 times in a week! Good, homey food at great prices. We enjoyed the turkey dinner with stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy; the french dip sandwich, the excellent baked potatoes and the old school dinner salads with real bacon bits and Cheez-its on top! Also, the apple pie and mud pie are delish. We're glad we live only 5 minutes away. We'll be back. more

It just keeps getting better!! 7/14/2006

You never know when one of your favorite places will suprise you. Recently I was looking for a new place to have breakfast on the weekend and my waitress said ""well you know we have breakfast here on weekends don't you?"" No I didn't but what do you know, this place never lets me down - one of the best kept secrets in town and a lot less expensive. more

Old school steak restaurant 3/9/2006

Very yummy. Where else can you get teriyaki steak & salad for 8.25? Lounge is very cozy. Great place to bring a book & have a beer. No one will bother you. Staff is very friendly & prompt. Pros: Food, Value, Comfort more
