One of the Best, so far 3/7/2004

I have lived in this area less than a year and have tried many restaurants, but still have many more to go. So far this ranks tied with one other, Barolo Grill. We have been here several times and I have not one complaint with food, service, atmosphere, wines, price, etc. The only thing negative I can think of is that on occasion we have been unable to get a reservation when we wanted. I am holding my breath upon hearing that they are opening Mirepoix in a big hotel, that they will continue to be comitted to standards they have here. Pros: Too many to list more

Snotty 8/15/2003

Adega is a wonderful addition to Lodo . . . too bad its maitre d' was so uppity. I was there on a Thursday night at about 7:45 (no reservations) with two friends. The maitre d' refused to seat us notwithstanding the fact that several tables were open. He claimed that he had one reservation to fill for which he had to allow ""another 15-20 minutes at least"" and, if they didn't show, could seat us in 30 minutes. Either Adega will hold a reservation an unprecedented amount of time (upwards of 30 minutes!) or he was scoffing at my husband's apparel (jeans). Adega, however, was happy to let us eat an expensive dinner out of sight in its wine bar, however. One might expect better from a restaurant located where restaurants have come and gone like the wind over the years. more

Nice pick 4/9/2003

We're visiting from Chicago and had a recommendation for Adega. It did not disappoint. We sat in the wine bar, but had access to the full menu. Nice relaxed atmoshpere. GREAT servers. Good food. Worth the price. Nice work Adega. more

Great bar seen, okay food. 3/31/2003

I have been to Adega five times and do not know why. The service is fair and food okay. Nothing to brag about. more

Worst Service I have ever Experienced 3/1/2003

Service was terrible. The place had 3 couples and we waited 45 minutes to get our order taken. She never asked to refill our wine or ask if our food was o.k. She also forgot our silverware. After 15 minutes, we went to the bar to get silverware. The food was great, but the $100 bill was excessive for 2 people receiving bad service. I was excited about visiting this new wine bar/restaurant in Denver. However, I was truly disappointed upon leaving. Pros: Good Food, Great Wine Selection Cons: Terrible Service more

Editorial review from Citysearch 2/20/2003

Have eaten here twice. Best food in Denver, or has ever been in Denver for that matter. Comparable to fine food in New York city, SF etc. Pros: Food more

great wine,great ambience 2/12/2003

one of the best wine list in Denver, a bit pricey though. Ambience is great and romantic Food is above average. Pros: wine, atmosphere more

For Serious Wine-O's Only 1/17/2003

Adega proved to be an excellent place for dinner (outstanding food), but the wine selection is for serious aficionados. Sure, the sommelier will help you -- but if you're not knowledgable about wine, you may not be happy to find that the cheapest bottles are in the $75 and up range. If you can ante up, Adega's a great place for a date; but for a wine place more accessible to the novice, go around the corner to Trios Enoteca (but not for dinner). Cons: Only high end wines more

Want to feel pampered? 1/14/2003

What a concept: great food, incredible wine selection, nice music, beautiful & comfortable atmosphere and NO SMOKING!!! Can't get better than that for anyone like me who cares about their health even when they want to party. The staff is extremely well-trained and friendly, with enough hovering to serve, but not interrupt. Pros: Wine selection, Wonderful food, NO SMOKING more

Everything I hoped for, but.... 1/14/2003

Recently had dinner here for first time; was hoping the food would live up to the raves. It did. All items were great - perfectly cooked, flavors balanced, beautifully plated. Wines by the glass were impressive. Service was good - not as polished as the surroundings, but perfectly fine (our bus boy was exceptional). However - noise level was so high, I couldn't hear conversation at my own table. Adega seems to want to attract the fine dining crowd AND the bar crowd; unless they expand or put walls between dining room & bar, this is a problem. We sat near a table who punctuated their - and our - meal with literal screams. Only excellent food saved this from being a miserable night. Almost forgot - desserts BY FAR the best I've had in Denver, esp. crispy apple rings with truffle ice cream. Creative, flavorful, subtle - great job. more

heaven on earth 12/4/2002

Oh my goodness! The food, oh the food, it melts in your mouth. The preperation and toil exerted to make these dishes is obvoius in their rich texture and flavor. The wine list is very extensive, from every price range imaginable. This wine servers anre very helpful in selecting the perfect wine to accompany your meal. The desserts are to die for and the attmosphere is wonderful. Make sure to make a reservation, though, or you will have to wait for a table, even on the slow nights. Pros: Good food, Good wine, Good service Cons: costly, pretencious, dimly lit more

Get it Together 11/14/2002

On a recent return to Adega, I sensed that they were finally getting their service act together. There was good communication between management and service staff and food was coming out of the kitchen in a timely fashion. However, the kitchen was sending out less than stellar eats. Some dished were right on, but some were so heavily salted I doubt that anyone tasted for seasoning before sending it out of the kitchen. Another item wrpped in Phylo was unedible, as it was burned to a crisp. How this item made it past the eyes of the chef is beyond my comprehension. Pros: Wines Cons: Attitude more

Way way overrated.... 11/7/2002

Food was average. Very small portions. Service was slow. I will not go back. more

Unbelievable! 10/25/2002

I had read the reviews before going to Adega and was worried since they were so up and down. It was one of the best meals I have ever had and I have eaten all over the world. The service was fabulous, the food was incredible and the decor was great. We left feeling very satisfied and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who would like a nice meal in Denver. I wish there were more restaurants like this in town. Pros: Service, Food, Good bar Cons: Noisy, Crowded more

Critics are way off. 10/20/2002

After reading the negative reviews on this site prior to our reservation, I was perpared for an overpriced, marginal meal. I had nothing of the sort. We were seat promptly and courteously. The staff was friendly and not overbearing. The food was excellent. Yes, the portions by American standards were small, but by the end of the evening I felt just as full as if I had eaten at Claim Jumper except I didn't have to take half of it home. All in all we had a wonderful meal and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Pros: Food, Wine Selction Cons: Charge for Valet, A little loud more

Platinum Service 10/14/2002

We had reserved the Chef's Table for 8 on Oct 12th. Chef Bryan Moscatello and his staff prepared an unbelievable (and unique) 8 course meal with white truffles accenting many of the courses. It was exceptional from beginning to end. Sommelier Chris Farnum personally selected the wines to accompany each course. The service was outstanding and it was a privilege to watch such a well managed operation in action. We'll all be back! It was a very special evening made even more so by the team at Adega. Pros: Food, Wine, Service more

Why do I go back fot torture? 10/12/2002

I keep trying to go back to Adega, but usually find myself more dissapointed than the last time. The wine selection and food are excellent, but the kitchen timing and service definitely have issues. I once waited at the bar for my meal for over 30 minutes...turns out it went to the couple next to me! The bartendress was apologetic, but management had no clue. With all those suits one should atleast have an idea about running the FOH. On my last visit, the door was sloppy! My guests and I were not greeted promptly, it took Adega a while to locate our reservation, and we were taken to a table by the door which should be reserved for walk-ins ONLY! Ageda has great food, but from my unpleasant experiences on numerous occasions, I'll stay away until they can get somebody in there that knows how to run a restaurant. Pros: wine list, food, tasting menu Cons: service, timing, disorganized more

Missing the Boat 10/5/2002

Adega misses the detail that is needed for greatness and justification for their prices. Some of the dishes were fabulous but most were average quality and flavor. The wait staff needs better training or they need to hire experienced professionals. Smaller portions and less quality than Charlie Trotters or the French Laundrys 8 course meals with similar or higher prices! In this economy with many great restaurants in major markets reducing wine costs Adega is going against the tide with overpriced selections. Denver could use a restaurant with creativity but Adega probably will not last long enough to get it right. Pros: Good Wine Selection, Decor Cons: Over priced wine, Overall Food quality, Wait staff more

Great food 10/3/2002

This place has great food - it's about time Denver started getting some good restaurants! If people want bigger portions, then why don't you belly up to the trough at Claim Jumper? Anyone who ""gets it"" will understand that the idea here is to try a variety of dishes in small portions and not go out feeling like a stuffed Christmas turkey! Obviously the concept of ""fine dining"" is still lost on a lot of Denver bumpkins who equate quality with quantity! Pros: Awesome food Cons: Concrete floors more

Best Restaurant in Denver 9/24/2002

Adega is imaginative, delightful, and hands down, the best place for a special meal in Denver. I suggest all of the folks complaing about portion size head on down to the local all you can eat buffet. The service has been outstanding, and it is nice to finally have a place in Colorado that truly deserves the title ""fine dining."" We've come a long way! more
