\r As a new customer, I purchased multiple hair products from Uncle Funky's Daughter through multiple orders totaling $200. On my last order, I selected the ""Next Day Air"" delivery option and paid $61.15 just for shipping when the product itself was only $25. The product was NOT delivered the next day. I called and emailed the company multiple times. My call wasn't returned until a week later. The first message said that they could not refund my money. Then the next message minutes later stated that there was an error on their part and they would be refunding my delivery charge of $61.15. Two weeks later I called to check on the status. Again, it took them a week to call me back and I was then told they would NOT be refunding my delivery charge. They mentioned that ""Next Day Air"" means that it takes 2 or 3 days to process and then it's delivered. Whoever heard of something so ludicrous? They stated that the website states this. On the order screen, it did NOT state this. Who would pay $61 extra dollars for a product to be delivered days later? (That would be regular delivery). When I went back to look at the order screen, the company changed the delivery option to ""Second Day Air"" but they already took my money and will not give me a refund. I purposely paid extra for ""Next Day Air"". All I wanted was my refund of $61.15 for delivery and they will not refund the money. I think this is a CROOKED company to take my money and then change the delivery option on the site to ""Second Day Air"". Customer service is horrible. No one answers the phone. You have to leave messages and it takes a week to get even one simple response. As the review below states, THIS PLACE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU MULTIPLE TIMES and they have never resolved any of the complaints. Places like this don't deserve our hard earned money. more

This is my review over Uncle Funky?s Daughter! I was on Google looking for great natural hair stylist to maintenance my locks due to the fact that my hair stylist was out of town and I stumbled across this place and thought that I would give it a try. So I called to schedule an appointment and the service clerk answers in a rude manner and advises me to go online to complete the appointment. So once online I go thru the appointment making process and click what I wish to have done and then it came to the screen asking for my credit card info I thought about it I really didn?t like the fact that it was asking for my credit card information but I was trying to get this out of the way so I entered it not deeply thinking about it. After that I was on my way to the appointment which I already knew where the location was for my scheduled 3:30pm appointment and got stuck in traffic on 59 15 mins prior to arriving to the shop! So I call and inform them that I was stuck in heavy traffic and I would be running a little behind schedule and I was reassured by the customer service clerk that everything was fine and to get there as soon as possible. Once I arrived I sat in the lobby waiting for over 30 mins so I thought everything was ok! Next thing I know the stylist comes out stating that I was late and that I wasn?t going to be able to get my hair maintenance so I was cool and was like thats ok so will the money be credited back to my card. She stated in a very rude and UN professional way No!!! It will not because you were late and we have a policy that states if your 15mins late we still charge you?. Then she went on stating that it should of told me this when I made the appointment (WHICH IT DID NOT) because I would of noticed it!!!!! It was only until I when back to the actual web page that it showed this in very little print on a totally different link. I asked to speak with the manager and then the owner and both were as rude as could be!!!!! I don?t think anyone should support any business of this nature!!!!! This is totally unacceptable!!!! I placed a stop payment at the bank and filed a claim!!!! Also They Have Been Reported To THE BBB!!!! (Better Business Bureau) THESE PEOPLE NEED TO BE STOPPED!!!!!! THIS PLACE GETS NOOOOO STARS AT ALL!!!!!! more

Customer service needs improvement - I found them rude and unprofessional. Perhaps should stick to only selling products. more

subpar customer service 12/22/2011

I was unhappy with the customer service from start to finish. I was consistently cut off when trying to interact resulting in leaving unhappy with the whole experience. The stylist used the excuse that she was client focus and everyone coming in to talk with her needed and appointment for a consultation that needed to be scheduled online only. I fell for this excuse and did as told but when I had my allotted time arrive she accepted a walk-in and took time out while I waited to put some product on her hair and explain and answer any questions she might have. more

I Love Uncle Funky's Daughter! 11/1/2011

I have always had a great experience at Uncle Funky's Daughter. This locally grown business has the best curly hair products on the market. I get a curly hair cut from Tonya and I'm grateful every time I visit because she is thorough and is very knowledgeable about curly hair. My experience is above 5 stars. more

Poor Attitude and Poor Customer Service 9/14/2011

I've visited UFD's Houston location twice and each time customer service was poor. I was excited the first visit to go and purchase products and schedule an appointment for salon services. The owner was non-engaging, rude, and suggested I go to the website to make an appointment. I purchased the products and found another salon. The second visit I wanted to purchase more products to share with friends and was met with the same sour attitude. Customer service is awful! I'm telling all my friends not to purchase UFD's products, because of the sour attitude of the owner and I""m sure it goes into the products and servicing of customers. If they have preferred clients, then they should stop wide spread advertising for products and salon services at this location. There are other products in the market that works just as well or better. Customer service goes a long way when people are spending their money! Needless to say, I did not make the purchase. more

Incredibly Turned Off by Poor Customer Service-Attitude 7/28/2011

I visited Uncle Funky's Daughter to purchase a gift card for a friend and was excited about visiting the store because I had heard great things about the variety of hair products. That changed the moment I began interacting with whom I believe was the owner, I was so disappointed. While she processed my transaction for the gift card, I inquired about the best hair products for me to consider since I recently went natural. She was unhelpful and non-engaging. I asked her for a list of services that I could include along with the gift card, to which she replied, ""You can get that information on our website."" This happened several months ago, but I just had a conversation another friend whom also had an unpleasant experience with this establishment and I felt inclined to share my experience. I love supporting small businesses, but not when the staff/owners are unwelcoming, unprofessional and have sour attitudes. Based on service, I gave a one star rating, but that was only because there was no option for selecting anything lower than one star. more

Disappointed 11/3/2010

I used to like UFD I had a great stylist there until she left, and I forgot to take her number..(eventually she found me and now i go to her) BUT I never loved uncle funkys i went there because options for natural hair salons are limited in houston. I had been a loyal customer for over a year. I never liked paying for my appointment ahead of time, and i could never bring someone with me..a couple of times i wanted to just give up with UFD but two things happened and i said eff it..the owner while pruning my locs cut off about an inch..and growing locs is a long process so to cut some off really hurt me..but it all came to a halt when i asked about loc extensions for my upcoming wedding and the owner told me it would take two days and shes only at the shop for 3 days a week...uhm what?! then she said it would be 1200-1500 for the style..I went around the corner to ANOTHER place and they charged me 250..UFD has inflated costs and they make you feel like you are doing something wrong with your own hair..I'm happy i quit them! more

Uncle Funky's Daughter is the one 10/12/2010

Two words to explain my hair if nothing or the wrong product is in it: Diana Ross. I got tired of neglecting my hair and my hair got tired of the neglect, so I decided to Google natural hair salons. Uncle Funky's Daughter was the second salon I came across and was the first to explore. The reviews were helpful and I was in dyer need of professional help. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and I always appreciate that. All questions were answered about my hair and I've enjoyed every product recommended. I have tried different products from the salon but I found my keepers. I use the Rich and Funky moisturizing cleanser, Richee Rich conditioner, Good Hair conditioning styling creme, and Curly Magic curl stimulator. I switched from the usual hair products on the shelf at the grocery store to natural products and must say I am completely satisfied. The products have a light fresh scent that is pleasing and not overbearing. Very nice. Overall my favorite is the Curly Magic. It keeps the curls in place but not hard or flaky like a gel or moose. I noticed when I wet my hair after I've had the Curly Magic in for a night or so, it doesn't feel dried out. It actually feels conditioned. Overall I give Uncle Funky's Daughter an A for ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! Great business and great products. Enjoy. more

Bad Karma and customer service 9/7/2010

I am a 50 yr old woman who have had natural hair for 5 years now. When I walked into UFD I felt welcomed by the young man up front. I was informed I had to pay in cash upfront for my service and I did not mind. I will pay for good service and love supporting our young businesses. more

Spreading the Word about My New Funky Love 8/27/2010

A lady walked up to me in HEB and asked me which products I was using on my hair. It caught me off guard at first, but as I diverted my attention from the fresh broccoli, I turned to see a sister with a lion's mane worth of curly hair. All I could say was, wow, I should be asking you! She told me, she gets her hair done at Uncle Funky's Daughter and that she uses their products Good Hair and Supercurl. My attention totally away from dinner now, I thank my lioness angel and made a note to get on over to that Uncle Funky's Daughter asap. (What a funny name!) I didn't get over there until Saturday at 1:00 pm an found a line of kinky and curly heads waiting in line for products. I stood my ground and watched in amazement. I had found -- KINKY HAIR HEAVEN! I spoke with Ray, one of the owners about my hair being so dry I was afraid the Houston sun was going to set it ablaze. We laughed a bit and he proceeded to tell me about Extra Butter. (Another funny name) His wife, Tonya, was actually using this angel sent cream on her client and invited me in for a look see. (I love her by the way!) She explained my texture and curl pattern which had been puzzling the heck out of me during this natural journey and explained that I needed to twist or braid my hair to get some curly/wavy texture to it. I thought going natural meant I could just wash it and go curly---nah, wash and go kinky is me. She tried a little Extra butter on my hair and I was sold--bought two, one for the sister. We both swear by the products. I can't believe this company is from my city! I have been telling everybody and now I am the angel that walks up to people in the grocery store. Get over to Uncle Funky's and get some of that funk! more

Don't believe the hype 5/20/2010

UFD is not a sanctuary at all. The negative things people say here are true. I went to UFD despite a recommendation NOT to go. What can I say? I have natural hair (I'm Black) and there aren't that many ""true natural"" options in Houston. Pros: Natural Hair Salon Cons: Customer Service, Quaility of Service more

Hair Care w/Funk 3/23/2010

It was great to find a hair care specialist that was not a salon or a boutique for a man. I found Uncle Funky's after it was recommended that I visit for a free consultation by my friend provided by the Uncle Funky's staff. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was more than a hair care place, with it's music, style, soul, and funk deeply ingrained in the establishment. From the clothes, to the workers, to the stylists, the store had its own way of doing things. I liked that natural spirit that it showed me. It also offered me a chance to step away from those harmful products that I was putting in my dreadlocks and enlightened me about other all-natural alternatives to the chemicals I was actually killing my hair with. The professional stylist gave me tips and tricks to keeping my dreadlocks looking good and staying healthy and even provided a free style to them after twisting them. They really are the best at what they do. Make sure you schedule your next appointment before you leave, their schedule seems to fill up fast! Pros: All natural, great staff, professional Cons: Scheduling more

Lack of customer service and unfriendly 11/23/2009

I went to this salon twice and was very disappointed both times. One of the owners of the shop (the guy who normally greets you at the front desk) is always extremely helpful and friendly. However, his wife named Tonya (the actually hair stylist) is the complete opposite. She doesn't know how to smile, she is not informative at all and appears to be very agitated when questioned about their processes and/or techniques. Pros: The only advantage to this salon is its location more

Best Curly Hair Products Period! 10/5/2009

Ray and Tonya are gems. They have a wonderful product line that actually works and they take the time to really educate customers on which products work best on your hair. Recommend them totally. Pros: Customer Svc, Clothing, Curly Hair and Natural Hair Product Cons: Parking on Saturday more

IT WAS JUST LIKE HOME!! 10/15/2008

i admit some things about the place could use a little more bend or organizing such as the whole apointment thing and deposits but the apointment thing is only because i think they have limited stylist right now WHICH ARE GREAT one colored my hair and on maintenanced it in the same day 3 hrs total VERY COZT NO LOUD KIdS RUNNING AROUND, just a normal place and for some of the other review i dont think they are trying to appeal to white crwods this is a natural hair place darling why in the hell would they want to give white people dreads but anyway GREAT PLACE WILL BE GOING AGAIN !! more

Simply the Best 11/27/2007

Everyone knows that Uncle Funky's Daughter is one of the best, most professional natural hair salons in Houston. I travel quite a bit but I always fly in to get my hair service at Uncle Funky?s. The owners and staff are well-respected, friendly and have always provided exceptional service to many, very satisfied clients -- present company included. It is unfortunate that some people spend time writing bogus comments about the owner with an attempt to defame the business while at the same time--coincidentally listing the phone number to their ""new"" salon that has exceptional service. There is a ?best salon ever? type salon out there for everybody, and as human beings we should love ourselves and each other enough to provide feedback so we can collectively be better instead of discouraging potential business. I have been going to Uncle Funky's Daughter for the past 3 years and have witnessed so many consultations that I am sure I can do one myself. During the consultation clients are given ample information on how to schedule appointments, deposits required and the salon policies. It is unfortunate that the person who wrote the negative comment below did not listen to nor READ the bold, plain text lettering that is on their services menu. Pros: Service, Ambience, Professionalism, Punctuality Cons: Parking is a motha on Saturdays more

Good location , Bad Attitude 11/5/2007

I like the location and the funky clothes they have but not their attitude. While I was getting my two strand twists done ,(which I didn't like )my husband tried to come in the back to check if I needed anything while waiting but the gentlemen that works there, (I believe he is one of the owners,) rudely told my husband that he couldn't come to the back not even for a second. My husband told him he was just going to check up on me for two seconds but they still refused. We were in shock!!! I understand every business have their policies but it can be done in a nice way. Pros: Location Cons: Bad Attitude more

I'm in love with Uncle Funky's Daughter 10/1/2007

I love this place! I found it online and decided to try it for myself. I scheduled a consultation, met the owners Tonya and Ray, and scheduled an appointment for loc maintenance. Not only did she use their amazing products on my hair, she gave me a complimentary style since I mentioned I never style my hair! I moved here from Chicago and was hoping to find a little bit of home here in Houston, but before Uncle Funky's, it was a challenge. While I was there, the store was extremely packed and several natural sisters came in for consultations and I was impressed at how much of a multi-tasker Tonya was. A family from Dubai came in to purchase products and wanted to take pictures with Tonya which I thought was waaay cool. I didn't realize curly hair was common in Middle Eastern culture but the customer said it is and her sister swears by their products. After the family bought about a gazillion products, another one of the ladies that came in for the consultation commented that she was glad she came in and that's when I told her, I was too considering people had posted negativity on their reviews. I made it a point that I would share with the world my wonderful experience at Uncle Funky's Daughter. I applaud you Tonya and Ray. Keep doing your thing! You must be doing something right, you are getting love from around the globe. I Love the service, love the products and love the people. Pros: Service, Clothing, Professionalism, Cater to you Cons: Busy area, stay booked, more
