Rude bouncers, inconsistent door policy 4/1/2004

I tried to go to Sutton Place for a high school reunion with some friends but I couldn't get in the door because I wasn't wearing a shirt with a collar. If they want to have a dress code, fine with me (although they could've mentioned it on their site), but the fact that while I was waiting for my friends to leave the bouncer let in several people who weren't wearing collared shirts made it obvious the dude just didn't want to let me in the door. And he was rude about it! My friends said the drinks were watered down and expensive anyway so not getting in was probably for the best. HIGHLY recommended for those that like RUDE people!!! Cons: , expensive, fascist more

Don't know how to treat customers! 9/19/2003

Bartenders had a bad, condescending attitude. Drinks cost more on the rooftop. When I stepped into a closed room to make a quick phone call, 1 staff member said it was okay because she understood the noise problem. However, the manager came over and wouldn't let me finish my brief conversation & berated me. All he could say was, ""you're wasting time"" and didn't even let me speak or defend myself. A few minutes later, my friends were sitting on a couch getting ready to (finally) leave and a condescending bouncer forced them to get off since the area was ""closed."" AVOID THIS PLACE! Cons: Rude staff, condescending staff, overpriced drinks more

What are the idiots at the door of this place thinking. No white t-shirts? This is the year 2003 and I think this is the only place you can't wear a white t-shirt to. A brown t-shirt or beige t-shirt, now thats ok. You have got to be joking me. more

Kids 6/24/2003

If your idea of a good time is standing shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of 23 year old suits trying to convince themselves they like scotch, then this is your place. Otherwise, I'd pass on it if I were you. It's very young and very annoying. Somewhat expensive but not outrageously so. I think they have a surcharge for drinks on the roof top though. The staff is friendly in spite of the annoying crowd. Props for that. Pros: Rooftop Deck, Staff Cons: Young Fratboy Crowd more

Very bad experince 6/6/2003

During a pouring rain night. Wasn't allowed in due to code dress issue (which is fine), however wasn't allowed to get in for a second to get my friends out. Actually they were so rude, had to stand out in the rain making phone calls since wasn't even allowed to stand in the entrace (may code dress is a disease). Never been treated so badly and for no good reason at all. Try to avoid this place, you never know what they can come up with. Cons: rude, very rude, extreamly rude more

I wanted beer, not meat 1/17/2003

This place is one of the biggest meat markets I have ever been to--if you want to talk to a day-trader who likes to flirt with anything wearing a skirt, then go. If you want to be able to hear your friends, then go someplace else. more

NYC + Sutton Place=Thumbs Down 1/13/2003

It seems like this bar is a focal point to people that aren't too familiar to the city. Well, city resident or not, I'm not a fan. Every time I've been to this bar it has been packed with young professionals who think they are high rollers. Couple that with stuck up girls and what do you have? A bar that is a waste of time. Pros: Lively Cons: Too Lively more
