Sutton Place Restaurant & Bar

my boyfriend and i have gone here a few times and we have had mixed reactions. we usually have great fun wherever we go but last night started off poorly. the awful mean bartender in the corner was rude, rude rude. when we had enough of her we went to one of the other bartenders to get our bill and told her of our experience. she said her name was roxy (not sure if that was real) and she greatly made up for our bad experience. she apologized for her coworker (not that, that makes it better but it was nice) and she was sweet and fun. overall we ended up having a great nite just stay away from the mean woman in the corner because she was rude to everyone not just us. whats up with her? more

I have NEVER been anywhere in Manhattan where I have been treated so poorly by the staff. In fact, this is the first time I have ever decided to write a review about my exeprience at a bar. I usually ignore staff with bad attitudes, but this time I was pretty taken aback. I have visited Sutton Place before and it was okay, so I'm not sure if it is new management or just a few really rude employees. When I complained to the manager, he didn't seem to care. I have been living in NYC for 3 years, and I have never had as awful of an experience as I had at this place. It was not surprising to me that I immediately saw people writing on here to complain about the employees. I went on a Friday for happy hour and noticed a bad attitude from the minute I walked up to the door. The absolute worst part of the night was when one of the security physically took me and threw me out of the club for saying I was too drunk. I have never had a problem with any security, and I certainly was not too drunk to be there. I remember coming out of the bathroom and him sweeping over to (unfortunately literally) attack me. He took my arm and twisted my wrist until I thought it was going to break. Even when I told him, ""you are literally going to break my wrist"", he looked very pleased and twisted harder. The most upsetting part is that I honestly believe that I may have been profiled (for being gay), and this guy got a sick pleasure from kicking me out. I will be sure to let every respectable person know about this and know that they should avoid Sutton until it gets employees that aren't so bored and ignorant that they need to attack random patrons. *The rooftop wasn't even as great they say. Went late on a Saturday night. Drinks are more expensive on the roof, even though it's only a few floors up (nice to be able to sit down at one of the many tables) Crowded, especially on the roof. Bartenders were decent, not extra friendly or fast, but decent. Bitchy attitude and service from the waitresses (unreasonable to expect more at 2:30 am on a Saturday?. I have been a regular customer until recently. The location and ambience is good in midtown east. But the waitress named ""Frida"" (This is the name she told us) is just crazy insane. Probably she was in bad mood and she just asked us to leave the bar without any reason. We are just drinking. And she tried to clean up the table, and we told her they are our glasses and still drinking. She just got upset and didn't admit her mistake and called security to leave us. That's so insane. Unfortunately she was just too stupid to take care of customers.. Not only that, the security guys named Joe told us ""Don't come here any more."" Can you believe it? That's so stupid. They just don't know who we are. The manager Freddie who listened to us has just vanished and made us wait over 20minutes, then didn't show up. No respect for customers. If you would like to drink happily, please avoid Joe-security, and Frida- blonde girl who are totally insane. This was the worst experience in NY in this 10years. more

First of all the crowd sucked- it was a ton of cheesy bridge and tunnel, second of all I learned the drinks are more expensive on the roof, just because it's on the freaking roof...and then on top of it I ordered a Kettle One Martini(which I drink all the time) and it was disgusting. I don't know what they put in it, but it wasn't Kettle One. I think this place is very 1998 with 2007 prices and I wouldn't drink the Kettle. more

Where else can you grab a beer outside and hang with upscale NYers that work hard all day and play hard all night. The bar staff is very friendly and serve up drinks very quickly. The location is central to all and has 3 levels; the 3rd level is an open rooftop terrace overlooking 2nd Ave and has views of many of New Yorks famous buildings like the Lipstick building and the Citibank tower. And who can forget all the TVs. I recently heard about this bar on TV and in the Newspapers and couldn't wait to check this place out. If you're new to New York and want a place with lots of space and sports, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed!! i was there last friday on 12/15 and i had a blast! we spent most of our night on the roof even though we had a party on a seperate floor. the bartender roxanne was great, (not to mention gorgeous), she made our night that much better. i will be back, definitely.
