Terrific Indian food, great lunch buffet. 12/22/2007

This was our first visit in many months, for lunch. The buffet is, if anything, better than it was before. For carnivores, they offered a goat masala, chicken biryani, tandoori chicken, ground lamb ""kebabs,"" and 2 other chicken ""curries."" Aside from the kebabs, which were a bit on the dry and chewy side, these dishes were all terrific, with the wonderful rich palette of spices that makes Indian food so special. There were 2 kinds of rice and at least 6 vegetable dishes, also very good. I do wish that some of the buffet dishes had been hotter (temperature-wise). I also would like to see at least a couple of dishes that are really spicy. They seem to have toned down the food for wimpy American tastes. There's a large selection of chutneys and rice pudding for dessert. I am sure I have forgotten to mention a few things. \r \r Service was very good and at one point a fellow - the chef, I believe - came out to chat and ask us how things were. They were pretty busy, with a couple of large groups of mostly Indian people.\r \r If there were problems with the change of management, they sure seem to have fixed things. Pros: Quality of food, wide buffet selection, service. Cons: Lack of spicy dishes. more

TURN AROUND 9/24/2007

I had visited Suchi 3 yrs back while on my annual visit to USA. It never ever occured to me that I will be a part of the team at Suchi in near future. I am expected to join Suchi by first week of October & let me assure you folks that it's going to be a great world of difference. Please give me some reasonable time to show visible results on ground. Hope to see the great Indian diaspora converging at Suchi more often than before. Pros: Good Non Veg Dishes Cons: ambience more

Change is good 9/12/2007

The new chef at Suchi, Mr. Kiran Kumar, was the head chef for Indian Prime Ministers Rajiv Gandhi and Atal Bihari Bajpeyi! He and the management did a remarkable job preparing a Nepali-specific buffet for our dinner party last Saturday. The food was superb and the service better than ever! The entire establishment went out of their way to accomodate our large group. It was great! more

Terrible new ownership 8/13/2007

I agree with the other recent reviews. I too was a regular at Suchi. It is under terrible new management now. They don't have a beer/wine license yet which was annoying so I had to order a soda. The soda arrived and it was diet, which I didn't order. I sent it back and received the new drink in a clearly dirty glass. The glass had white globs of something on the inside of the glass. I finally after 3 attempts received the correct drink order. The soda was watered down and completly flat. I had to ask for a menu since they never brought any out went we were seated. When I finally got the menu, I noticed some of the prices are higher. I ordered off the menu (no buffet for me) and they completly changed the dish. It no longer had the items in it before but the menu has not been changed to reflect it. The service was horrible and it took forever to get the check. I will NEVER go back. I'm very sad because Suchi was the best Indian I've ever had and I always enjoyed the food and people there. I would never suggest anybody to go to Suchi anymore. Pros: Prompt seating since there was nobody in there Cons: EVERYTHING! New management has ruined a great place more

Loss of a great indian Restaurant 8/2/2007

Suchi, just changed ownership. Suchi no longer owns it. I have been eating the lunch buffet for over two years almost weekly. I didn't realize that there was a new owner until I complained to the manager at how poor the food quality was. Now it is watered down average Indian food. the Briani has so much turmuric that by the end of the meal your fingers and nails get heavily stained. The tandourri isn't even red, has little flavor and dry tasting. So this was my first experience. The manager indicated to me that they were getting another chef that was supposed to improve the food. So I went back a month later and the food was just as bad. Excelt that the tandourri wasn't as cold as it was the first time I had it. The food taste like ingredients as opposed to a blend of them. If you are new to Indian food, this is NOT what is is supposed to taste like.\r \r This is a tragedy because it was one of my best lunch spots in Cary but I will not go back. Nothing is worse than getting ripped off at lunch. If you are looking for a proper Indian meal try Curry and Spice on 54 in Durham. This is how it is supposed to taste. Pros: Watermellon Cons: Indian Food more

The worst buffet ever!! 4/15/2007

This is the worst buffet I have ever tasted. I have eaten in Suchi a couple years ago and it was so much better. Went to the weekend buffet and it was horrible. The vegetarian dishes sucked and the the chicken dish with the little red pieces was missing. The Biryani has over the years evolved more into some sort of yellow rice and the desert consists of whole bananas.....like the owner is trying to feed monkeys instead of real people.\r This place has become a joke over the years and looks like the owner is cutting corners all over the place.\r I hope the mgmt takes a deep look into what this place has become and hopefully decide to invest in the food a little more.\r ""Spice and Curry"" on the other hand puts out a much better buffet these days. I would recommend people to go and check that out.\r more

Excellent and somewhat hidden south indian gem 4/7/2007

Suchi serves up some of the best South Indian food in the triangle. I highly recommend the Spicey Okra dish, served up with warm naan, or to try the buffet to sample the cuisine. One advantage of ordering aside from the buffet is they can cater the spice to your tastes on a rating scale of 0 to 25. For those used to spice, I recommend a 15 which best compliments the food.\r \r The restaurant does not focus on its service, or ambience, but they do serve up excellent food. Pros: Love the spice more

Avoid it if you are looking for good vegetarian food/South indian food. 3/29/2007

I was there on a sunday for the Buffet after reading the reviews in Citysearch. To be very frank ,I was very much disappointedwith the buffet.I am a vegetarian and my view point is limited to the vegetarian dishes they had on that particular day.\r \r The soup(They had rasam and tomato soup) and the starters(medhu bonda) were just okay.Idly was soft and fluffy and met my expectations. The dosa disappointed me.\r \r Then nans and the entrees(3 veg. entrees) were not upto my expectations. They were very greasy.\r \r They had gulab jamoon and rice pudding which was not bad. They also had banana in the fruits section which disappointed me as most of the indian restaurants have cut fruits\r \r One of the reviewers had mentioned that they serve the best dosas in the triangle area.I srongly disagree with the reviewer. If you are looking to have good veg. food/south indian food,I would highly recommend Tower.Their buffet is one of the best I ever had.I am not trying to be biased here.I eat outside 7 days a week.\r \r \r Being a vegetarian,I had very few limited options and overall I was very disappointed with the buffet.I will never visit the restaurant again.\r \r Cons: the vegetarian food more

Best indian buffet in town with wide variety. 3/27/2007

I am not a reviewer or a critic of food. But after reading the last two posts about suchi, I thought, I should correct the info. I'll be blunt. I go there more often than I have been to any restaurant in my life. I just love the food, the people and the music and now the videos. You probably may have seen me there, as I go thers at least three times a week. \r

\r This person is either BLIND or To cheap to even eat indian food (I prepare few dishes, and believe you me, it is not easy to that stuff). The buffet prices are always posted on the board at the front door, where you enter.\r
\r
\r And about ""sidwin's"" post : How old is KID. This place has the largest selection of dishes compared to any other Indian Buffet. Even their menu has bigger selection and spice ranges. My wife likes very mild dishes, she gets Chicken Tikki Masala, meat vegetable korma or malai kofta.\r
\r Don't blame the place 'cause you are screwed up. This is one of the few places i see people really enjoy the dishes and the vareities. Pros: variety Cons: Decore more

$7.45 really means $14.....Never Again!! 2/17/2007

My boyfriend and I were in the mood for Indian food so we were really excited to try Suchi. We were informed that the weekend price was written in fine print next to the original price. We looked all around and there was no posting of that price anywhere to be seen not even on the menu. We also saw on the way out that the sanitation score was an 80%. I will never go back to this place. Horrible price horrible staff also very deceiving. not my idea of a good time. Cons: Horrible sanitation rating and Horrible price!!!!! more

not worth for $12.00 kids buffet 2/10/2007

Very limited choice. Not worth spending $ 12.00 for a kids buffet on weekend. Food was cold. Waiters/waitresses stare at you.(as if you are stealing food) and your plate while you fill up your plate.( no privacy) .Our first and last visit to Suchi. Overall we were pretty depressed after spending $ 60.00 for lousy, limited menu lunch for five. Take my advice there are many more Indian eateries in Raleigh/Cary area, which you would enjoy over and over again. One positive note.... Our children enjoyed watching bollywood music videos while eating ""not so appealing "" food. Bye! Bye!! SUCHI !!! more

Worst sanitation scores!! 1/29/2007

While I loved the food when I ate here in September I won't be back, ever! When we went in Sept. the posted sanitaton score was in the 90's. In January they scored in the 70's and were told to clean up or be shut down. They were reinspected and still scored in the 70's and unless they hire a company to come clean the place for them they will be shut down. Finds included live and dead pests, moldy cutting boards and unsafe food handling and storage. It's unfortunate because the food was great! But after two back to back bad inspections I can't eat here again. But if sanitation scores done matter to you the nan is to die for, the samosas are great too, and the Butter Chicken just may be the best entree on the menu. The owners are super friendly and will help you through the menu. Pros: the food was good, assuming dept of health hasn't shut them down. Cons: Horrible sanitation scores!!! more

Best Indian Buffet 1/11/2007

Though my husband and I have lived within 1 mile of Suchi for about four years we've only just recently discovered this great Indian restaurant. We went for the buffet lunch a couple of weeks ago - a great deal for $7.50 - and ever since I've been wanting to go back - that's how good it was. I made it back this week and was surprised to see that nearly _everything_ on the buffet was different - it was a whole new delicious experience. The variety of dishes is quite extensive. They have a chutney bar, fruits, puddings, soup, dousas, more than four vegetarian dishes, four meat dishes and other delights. This is the biggest Indian bueffet I've seen in the Triangle. And a lot of dishes on the buffet I've never had at other Indian restaurants or buffets. I'm use to seeing Saag Paneer and Alo Gobi on nearly every Indian buffet, but at Suchi I haven't seen them yet! The food is just so good and it's quite refreshing to try something so new and yummy. After having missed out for four years, I'm going to do my best to make up for lost time and plan to eat there often!! more

Excellent! 12/12/2006

Went last night by myself because I'm in town on business, the owner was very gracious and service was great. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer, and Garlic Naan. The portions were generous and enough for me to take home as leftovers. The Indian Beer selection was fantastic, but the wine by the glass was a little lacking; however, I spoke the manager and he said he had been working on it. The Chicken Tikka Masala was just pefectly spiced, the Saag Paneer was creamy and the cheese was toasted which made it that much more flavorful. When I come back into town, I will definitely make this my stop for excellent Indian food! Pros: Allows you to pick spice levels to your taste, perfectly done Cons: Not a place if you insist on a glass of riesling or good pinot grigio with your meal more

Is the best dosa I had in US so far, better than Tower and Udipi ( the veg south Indian places) 8/25/2006

This place has the best Rava dosa I ever had in US. and their Chicken Tikka Masala is served to my spice level of (crazy 50) is the best with their recommended garlic naan.\r See you there soon. Pros: Taste, quality and quantity Cons: Decore more

My Absolute Favorite 4/25/2006

I've eaten Suchi Indian food 4-5 times in the last few months, and wish I could more often. The owner is gracious and answers any question you have without making you feel like a ""dumb American"". I've had the buffet once (my fiance' is not a fan of Indian or I would eat there once a week) and the last time I went to get take-out the owner kindly offered me samples of two new dishes on the rotating buffet, one of which was sweet potato curry, which was excellent! It's nice to know I was a familiar face after only eating there three times! I recommend this to anyone who feels they are an Indian-food lover or anyone that wants to try something new, both for the traditional Indian we know of around here and the South Indian style. The butter chicken, Gobi-65, and Manchurian chicken are especially excellent. Pros: food!, food!, food! Cons: dumpy shopping center more

Great service and food 3/10/2006

I appreciate that every time I've been here, the host or waiters always have a smile on their face. You really feel welcomed. The food is also great everytime and there's a good variety for non veg and vegetarians. The ambiance is also nice, the lighting is dim and the tables are set up nicely. more

Wonderful food with incredible customer service! 2/23/2006

My family and I have been going to Suchi for a few years now and I have never been anything but highly satisfied with the fresh, flavorful variety of foods available here. The owner is charming and helpful...even supplying a candle with the gulab jamun he gave my daughter for her birthday cake! Always helpful in making selections, we will continue to happily ""eat our way through the menu"" here for a long time in the future. Pros: Tasty food, Individual assistance, Parking more

go to suchi 2/11/2006

you cannot find a great south indian restaurant that offers meat dishes as well...this is the best place in the triangle...hands down. If you want awesome variety, unbelievable authenticity, and flavor...this is the place. Pros: food, variety more

my favorite Indian food 2/10/2006

This is probably the only restaurant I can think of that's worth driving to Cary for. Really good food! Pros: authenic, good variety of food, good price Cons: often under-staffed more
