Our favorite restaurant 12/23/2005

Everything that has been said about the food is true -- best we have ever had. Again, the soups are terrific, and the condiments are wonderful. I think the ambiance is very pleasant and inviting -- I particularly enjoy the music, and the booths and tables are spacious. Also, I have always really enjoyed talking to the staff and the owner about the food (what to eat with what), and even Indian movies and music. Restaurants like this come from the heart, as if you were with friends sharing their best recipes with you. Suchi is a regional treasure. Pros: fabulous buffet, excellent service, great music more

Spicy, nonvegetarian, and South Indian 7/22/2005

The cuisine you will find here is authentic and different than what is offered in most Indian restaurants. This places serves typical Hyderbadi food which is very different than North Indian food and slightly different than other parts of South India. This place offers tasty meat curries and meat biryani, not found in other South Indian restaurants in the area. Be sure to try their Hyderabadi biryani and goat curry. I highly recommend the buffet, which is reasonably priced and allows one to sample a variety of different foods from this region of India. The staff is accomodating and friendly. Once you taste the food, you will be forgiving of the simple and somewhat lacking decor. Pros: Variety, Authentic, Inexpensive Cons: Mediocre decor more

Simple, homestyle cuisine 7/6/2005

I went to Suchi for my birthday and i can honestly say I have never had Indian food quite like this in the close to one hundred or so I have been to across the country. The only word I can find to describe it is ""homestyle"". Nothing particularly fancy about the presentaion or the place itself. I recommend aloo mattar, a potato and peas dish in spicy gravy, still on my mind a month later. Warning to those unable to handle spicy foods... they have a scale: mild, medium, spicy, very spicy and extremely spicy. I usually find that most Indian places generally figure that the American palate is pretty wimpy (which, in comparison to the Asian palate... it is) and spicy is basically mild to me. I ordered very spicy... and it was VERY spicy. It was good though, nice that they didn't dumb it down. Great spot! Pros: Huge menu, truly authentic, spicy for once Cons: somewhat simple decor more

Never go back to this place 5/18/2005

I read all the reviews and went to suchi expecting a great tasing Indian food. But seeing the cheesy walls and horrible decor,it just crippled my appetite but still managed to order take-out.While I was waiting for my food, the owner struck a conversation with me and went into saying it has cost him lotta money to run this place and some weird self manifestation.I was so taken back after this conversation and overall ,if u dont care about the money, decor but just want some average Indian food,u can goto this place. But I'll rather not go back there ever. Pros: somewhat good food Cons: decor, service,, buffet Items :( more

Great Flavor 4/3/2005

Suchi is much improved since redecorating. The food is certainly well above average for the Indian Cuisine in the Triangle area. Hydrabadi is the specialty which is very spicy There are several dishes available that are not spice and most dishes can be ordered non-spicy. The lunch buffet is definitely one of the best in the triangle. Pros: food, taste , variety Cons: non-romantic, cheesy tables more

Quality food from quality concious owners. 3/29/2005

At the time of this review, the editorial rating for this restaurant is ""average"", while *all* the user reviews are ""highly recommended"". IGNORE the editorial review. This currently is the best Indian food in the triangle. I have been a customer since it opened several years back. I also have had an opportunity to talk to the owners several times. They take pride in not cutting corners while maintaining the quality of the food. The buffet as well as their a la carte menu provides excellent variety. It caters to vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Their vegeterian items taste *way* better than other vegetarian-only Indian restaurants in the Triangle. Their recipe-specific spices taste fresh (this is rare for Indian restaurants in the area.) Buffet arrangement is convenient. If you have not tried Suchi already, you must. CAUTION: Afterwards, you will find the Indian food served elsewhere in the Triangle less than acceptable. Pros: Food taste, quality, Food Variety, Customer service Cons: Can go easy on salt more

Best Indian in the Triangle 12/11/2004

I just started working in Raleigh last week and wanted to check out any Indian buffets in the area, and came across Suchi while searching the internet. A review from the News and Oberver in 2002 convinced me to give Suchi a shot (you can read the review on their website). Suchi didn't disappoint. The buffet is more divierse then any I have seen, including such dishes as mint-cilantro chicken, and the scrumptious Chicken-65. My favorite part of the buffet is the soups. I have never seen soups on an Indian buffet before. The soups were wonderful, full of tastes I have never experienced before. There is also a good selection of chutneys and vegetarian dishes. The waitstaff was prompt and friendly, even going as far as to explain the dish/sauce/bread combinations. If you are in the traingle and like Indian food, check out Suchi. You won't be dissappointed. Pros: Great Food, Friendly Waitstaff, Great Food more

Best Indian in Triangle! 10/11/2004

My wife and I love Indian food. We have eaten at Indian restaurants all over Chapel Hill, Cary, Raleigh, etc. We used to drive to Royal India in N. Raleigh before we found Suchi. Suchi is much better, with authentic and unique Indian dishes not found at other local restaurants. The buffet is excellent, but so is the menu. The owner will gladly make recommendations and explain the menu. Their chicken masala and butter chicken are the best we've had. Also, their chutney selection is second to none (try the ginger, tomato, coconut, etc.)! Highly recommended! Pros: Superb Food, Reasonably Priced, Friendly Owner more

Out of this world experience 6/3/2004

One of the best indian cuisine in US. Chicken-65 is out of this world. Wide range of spice levels, can make you sweat with a good taste Pros: Best Buffet, Good menu, Spiced to taste more

Ever good Non Vegetarian restaraunt 2/27/2003

This was the good non vegetarian restaraunt which i liked in RDU area since 2000. The way the serve the food with required spicy levels. Cons: buffet in week nights more

Best Indian buffet I had so far! 2/12/2003

This place has the best buffet I have ever had west of UK so far! Chatnees are fresh and very tasty with their pancakes with potato. Chicken Curry is one of the best I ever had in a restaurant. Too many items to try on the buffet. A good feast for vegans and omnivores (like me) alike. Cons: small dining room more
