Had some of the best pasta I've had in years. Better than anything I ever ate in Rome. I ate here a couple of days ago and the place seemed very clean, so not sure about the last ...

The food was ok. They had a guy outside that convinced my wife we should eat there. Everything was going ok until it was time to pay. We waited quite a while and finally I flag...

Filet Mignon-a must! 2/19/2005

I ordered the Filet Mignon with gorgonzola and grilled radiccio. I wasnt going to order it b/c it wasnt the first thing to come to mind for an italian restaurant, but it was one of the best filets I have ever had. Highly recommend. more

Disappointed 1/29/2005

I made a reservation at this restaurant 3 days in advance. Although I made the reservations for 8 p.m., they didn't seat us until 8:40. The scrap of paper they scribbled reservations on didn't seem to have my name even though I made it imperative to on the phone that I needed to be seated at that (and no, I didn't call the Steps of Rome Cafe down the street). While we were seated, they kept rearranging the tables next to us...constant noise and people walking back and forth in the small space it is. Unfortunately, we we got to Beach Blanket Babylon right before it started because it took so long to be seated and receive the food and were forced to sit all the way in the back for the show. I have never seen such a poor reservations system and a non-willingness to accomodate us!!! Cons: wait, management more

great authentic food! 12/14/2004

Wow! The place is pretty unassuming, but man was this good Italian food. I lived in Italy for a number of years so I know what realy Italian food tasted like and this was real Italian food. I ordered a seafood risotto that was so tasty! The place is cute, intimate with two stories! It's not exactly the hippest and trendiest place in the city, but with a little TLC, it could be great. But you can't go wrong with the food. Pros: great food, nice staff, good wine more

Wow! The place is pretty unassuming, but man was this good Italian food. I lived in Italy for a number of years so I know what realy Italian food tasted like and this was real Italian food. I ordered a seafood risotto that was so tasty! The place is cute, intimate with two stories! It's not exactly the hippest and trendiest place in the city, but with a little TLC, it could be great. fun place, a true Euro caffe 12/14/2004

I was pleasantly surpirsed. I had always heard of Steps of Rome but I was afraid to go because I thought it might be a tourist trap. But i really enjoyed myself. The Euro staff was so nice and interactive, and the food was decently priced and very tasty. Plus, I love that you can sit outside and eat your food. I will go back! This can be a wonderful restaurant if you know what you're getting into. It is a great place to take a big group of people who are outgoing and fun loving. Do NOT take a reserved or introverted group of people here. They will hate it. The service can be the worst you've ever had, but if you are with a big group of fun people, no one cares. The mood at the restaurant is all about the party. I have had the best times with a group of people getting ready for a big party night, or with those who have alredy been drinking. It is rowdy, but fun. And yes, I like the food. The filet, Cara rigatoni, and tiramisu are delicous. I took an Italian woman here and she loved it. Don't bother with reservations, they take them, but I don't think they use them. Pros: inexpensive, fun atmosphere, good food Cons: , long waits more

DISGUSTING SERVICE 9/26/2004

I was at Steps of Rome Trattoria for dinner and was EXTREMELY disappointed at the poor service. I will spare all of the details but I took a colleague out to dinner and was promptly ignored when we made several requests to solve a bill discrepancy with the restaurant's assistant manager. Finally, we took matters into our own hands and left after waiting for almost an hour. I will NEVER dine at this restaurant AGAIN. The staff COMPLETELY embarrassed us on what was supposed to be a happy occasion. I am a San Francisco native and you can BE SURE that EVERYONE I KNOW will hear about this. I am completely disgusted at how we were treated last night. North Beach has a TON of OTHER restaurants competing with this one and I can say that this one WON'T be missed. Cons: , was totally ignored, Will never dine here more

How good was our Steps of Rome Trattoria experience? Try this: we enjoyed it in May, 2004. I thought enough of it that I've kept a reminder to write a highly favorable review on my to-do list for five months now. We lived in SF for two years. Our Steps/Trattoria experience was as fun as any of our SF outings. There is an early stage of a romance energy in the restaurant's atmosphere. Even though it is true they entertain their customers well, but service pretty bad. We went for dinner on a Sunday night. First there was no one to serve us then it took a long for our food to get to us, after that we had to ask 3 different people to just get our bill, because they kept forgetting to get it. Last they gave us the wrong check, so they had to spend more time looking for the right check. My my maybe they should start focus on the basic of service than entertainment. I wouldn't go back to Steps Of Rome again. Cons: , bad service, forgetful more

THE BEST 7/27/2004

We stumbled on the Steps of Rome Trattoria this spring only beacause they offered outside seating and we had our new puppy with us, the Host Piero is THE BEST!! He's very good looking and can make any group of women have a blast! I live in Sacramento and my girlfriends and I will drive to the city JUST to go to Steps of Rome, the food is great and the service is fast and friendly. I have been to both Steps of Rome and I would definitely suggest the trattoria because of the atmosphere and Piero :) the other Steps is good if you want loud music and large groups of people. you may have to wait a bit if you have more than 4 people b/c of the size of the restaurant but you will have great scenery out front if you are waiting at night. Pros: Food, Staff, Atmosphere more

Entertainment! 6/11/2004

I went to Steps of Rome on my vacation from Maine to see my best friends. This group of 5 girls brought extreme attention from the energetic, true Italian waiters... we had a lot of fun. The place was too small for a group our size, but they fit us in because ""we were too pretty to go anywhere else"", haha! i had dinner in this restaurant like 2 weeks ago and let me tell you...it was a blast!!!! the food was great, the atmosphere was sooo cool and relaxing and especially the servicewas fast and flawless. there was this waiter called zico who served me and my friends that night ... he was the BEST !!!!! i am definitely planning to go back there as soon as i can. after a hectic week of work, steps of rome trattoria is the best place to relax and have fun in.
