As a professed pizza connoiseur, I have scoured Houston looking for the best pie in town. Call it an obsession, but I call it a passion. I hate paying for bad food, especially in this town that has so much to offer. I have eaten at low end and high end eateries offering a variety of pizza. If you're looking for fantastic northeast/NY-style pie, this is the place. This is not shishi arugla with pear gourmet pie (ala Dolce Vita or DaMarco), this is down-home thin crust pizza. Last night, I had one of the tastiest pies i've ever had in town (possibly ever period)- pepperoni and mushroom, done extra crispy. The extra crispy is key, if you like your crust done through and through to the very middle. I savored every bite and had a near religious experience- the toppings were flavorful and fresh. Just enough pepperoni and mushroom with cheese, letting the sauce and seasonings shine through. It's crucial in a NY-style pie to not let the toppings, cheese especially, overwhelm or dominate the pie. And let me tell you about the crust- holy shnikes, perfection! Just a light char on the outer edges and a buttery light crunchy texture that added a delightful end to each slice. I spoke to the owner for a while and unbeknownst to me, the NY Pizzerias are franchised- so not all NY Pizzerias in Houston are the created equal!! In fact, there's definitely variability in the quality of pizza. The emphasis of this NY Pizzeria outlet is on the PIZZA- they do offer a few sandwiches, calzones, but the reason they stay open is the PIE. So, go there for the PIE and you won't be disappointed. The only minor and miniscule negative- a shallow pool of oil/grease on the pie. Easily sopped up with a few napkins.\r

If you want an upscale gourmet pie, try Dolce Vita- Marco Wiles' bistro eatery- fantastically fresh and interesting toppings with amazing crust.

Cons: salad was forgettable
