I'm sad to report that RuSan's has seriously gone down hill. I remember when I had friends in town on a regular basis and I would make sure that they each experienced RuSan's whil...

Best sushi restaurant ever 10/5/2006

Best sushi ever ignore about the service if you got a good food, good admosphere, great chef, look for chef Buddy, he is cute and helpful, lunch buffet is awesome, can't beat the price and the choices, highly recommended! Pros: Good sushi, best in town more

Best Sushi In Nashville!!! 9/30/2006

Ive been here a lot of times and still Its excellent food service and ambiance is great, but if your an oldie and dont appreciate loud music get out..... Great Chefs and know what hes doing and could speak english, which is so unusual for a japanese restaurant. try their Beef Carpacio, Sushi Combinations ans one more thing LOOK FOR CHEF NELSON "" HEs The BEst"" Pros: great food, good service more

Noisy, but delicious! 9/22/2006

Rusan's is the best sushi in town. For dessert, try the banana & cream cheese roll that is tempura-fried. It's incredible. The vibe is loud.... blaring music & lots of talking... but it's a fun place to go with friends for a night out. The food is amazing & also cheap! Pros: awesome sushi, cheap drinks Cons: noisy, long wait at times, no reservations more

back room now non-smoking 8/27/2006

For your info, the back room is now no-smoking as well, i.e., the entire restaurant is no smoking. The back room is still not as ""nice"" as the front, but the front is nothing to brag about. As the other reviewers have stated, the draw here is the food, somewhat better than other Nashville sushi joints at somewhat lower prices. I've eaten there perhaps 30 times, and the fish is always fresh and the staff are always friendly. The menu has some Thai specialties too as Ken's wife is Thai. more

Need to Label Food 8/16/2006

Not a very roomy restaurant and loud at lunchtime and crowded. For what I ate, it was good but I am allergic to shellfish and nothing was labeled, so I was afraid to try a lot of things for fear it had shellfish in it!. The waiters are not plentiful, so you cannot ask them what anything is. I am a picky eater so this restaurant was not on my top list of choices, but don't listen to me...business looks great for these folks, so obviously they are doing something right! My only complaint is the lack of labeling what each item is and what ingredients are in it. Pros: Affordable, offers lunch menu at lower prices than dinner Cons: crowded, service is lacking, doesn't have many of "the usual" items I like on the menu more

Nothing Fishy about it! 7/5/2006

I have been to Rusan's numerous times now, and have enjoyed each visit. The atmosphere is lively, posh, clean, exciting, and comfortable. Although space is limited, seating is usually prompt, and the service is ""so so"". They have a wonderful all you can eat lunch buffet, at very low cost, $10 at the most. When in there today, I noticed that they scored a 100 on their annual check. Another BONUS! The selection is great, and if you're a beginner, the lunch buffet is where you should start. It helps you learn what you like, and don't like, with a wide variety. The waitstaff is very friendly, but can be limited when busy. If you're looking for some of the best high quality sushi in town, at very low cost... Rusan's is your place. Enjoy!! Pros: Great Sushi, Price, Variety Cons: Small more

No better place in Nashville 5/13/2006

Rusans is the pinnacle of sushi dining! Although one or two other restaurants are in their league in terms of quality of sushi, none of them can touch Rusans prices. You cannot go wrong with this choice. The extensive menu can overwhelm some, but experiment and have fun! The servers can help you if you get stuck. No matter what, you will get great sushi! Also, some of the earlier reviews mention bad service. I have eaten here at least 40 times (not counting the Atlanta locations) and bad service is the rare exception, not the rule-however, due to space issues, don't expect to be waited on hand and foot. My only caveat is that if you want a quiet dinner, you should choose another place. If you want a fun, loud, lively atmosphere, look no farther. Pros: sushi quality, cost, lively atmosphere Cons: only 1 in Nashville more

Problems in Paradise 4/30/2006

I used to say this was the best on the planet. I've had roughly 1 out of 3 experiences lately at Rusans that I thought were so below average I did not go back for months. The food is always good, but the service has fluctuated from pretty good to damned awful. Have been there times where others would order food and I would receive mine half an hour later, once was stuck for 24 minutes trying to pay and leave, I'd say I've blown 10 hours of my life in 2005 in Rusans waiting for food or my credit card back. But when it's good, it's all good. They had it, they lost it, they need it back... Pros: food, atmosphere, value Cons: inconsistant service, explanation of bills, time spent waiting more

Fun, upbeat atmosphere with a heck of a variety of inexpensive sushi!!!! Punk rock and roll...YUM! Pros: prices, variety, atmosphere more

Great value, good food, weird service 2/24/2006

We had a great time, and the sushi is very good. It's a very good value - you can get out of there with a good meal and not spend a ton of money. However it is very loud, and the servers are strange. The host keep yelling very loudly ""batter up!"" or something like that every time he seated someone. We were near the host stand, so it was very annoying. Our waitress also yelled quite a bit. After a few beers though, you kind of tune it out. I would recommend (and ask for a seat in the back). Pros: Value, Food Cons: Noise, Wait staff more

Very bad sushi! 2/20/2006

One of the worst sushi experiences ever. Overly crowded and loud environment. Half-hearted service. Bland salad. Mediocre sushi. There has to be something better in Nashville. more

Last time at Rusan's 12/11/2005

5 of us went to Rusan's on Friday 12/9. We got there at 8 and it was not overly crowded. We all ordered and I know they bring food out as it is ready but I only ordered sushi and I never received it. Everyone else was done w? their meal & I told the server to cancel mine. I never received an ""I'm sorry"" at all. I spoke to a manager & he was nothing but rude. Never offered any compensation & again never said sorry. I used to love going here but no more! The place has gone down hill fast! Cons: rude staff, rude management, food average more

User review by taraxleigh 11/24/2005

the food is good. the chefs were so amazingly talented. they were friendly and personalble. the waiters/waitresses are not. our waitress spent more time talking to her co-workers than paying attention to us. and she demanded our phone numbers to give to her coworker, which is really creepy, and really just unethical and wrong. for that reason alone, i would never go back. Pros: great chefs, friendly, good food, bright, and larger Cons: too loud, obnoxious, crummy service more

Best sushi in the southeast! 10/17/2005

I really think Ru San's is the best sushi place in the southeast, hands down! There is no other restaurant where you can get such good food at such a low price! My wife and I just went there twice this weekend while on vacation and spent less than $25 both times. It's an amazingly good bargain and a fun night out! Pros: Very Inexpensive, Good Parking, Lots of Fun Cons: Music Too Loud more

Terrible service 7/18/2005

I have eaten at Rusan's for my third and final time. The service here is inexcusably slow. The waitstaff is rude and sluggish. The food is fine, but not nearly spectacular enough to make up for everything else. There are many other loctaions to get more for your money and time. more

Not bad at all 1/6/2005

Listen here y'all-- Rusan's is great value, but it's definitely red state sushi. The lunch buffet is phenomenal value, but why is everything fried? Those wanting to lay off the frying oil might prefer someplace more traditional. But that said, this is a great place for a sushi beginner. Pros: Inventive, Inexpensive, Fun Cons: , Too fried! more

So full I couldn't think @ work! 10/17/2004

A co-worker and I have officially adopted Ru San's as our Friday lunch special! We have decided that we are going to go there @ least once a week for their wonderful lunch sushi buffet! We ate sooo much delicious sushi, that we didn't get anything done for the rest of the afternoon, when we returned to work! Get there before noon or be prepared to wait, and if it is just a few ppl try to sit @ the huge sushi bar, so you can watch them make the fresh sushi while you devour your own! Pros: best sushi in TN, great lunch buffet, wonderful atmosphere more

RuSan's is best! 7/22/2004

I am a sushi addict and Ru San's is my favorite place in Nashville! The staff is energetic and the sushi is super fresh. The lunch buffet is awesome - under 9 bucks for all you can eat sashimi, all nigiri, soup, etc! Music is very hip - for the younger generation for sure! Go there! Pros: Excellent atmosphere, Fresh food, Decor is modern more

Don't Walk...Run to RuSan's 6/30/2004

I love this place. The fish is fresh, the service is spectacular and the menu is extensive. They offer something for everyone, cooked or raw. The sushi chefs are some of the hardest-working and most creative I've ever seen, as good as NYC or LA anyday! Pros: Fresh Fish, Extensive Menu, Great Service more

Always a winner 6/21/2004

One of the few restaurants that I frequent regularly. I try to go about once a week. Also a good value, great food, and fun atmosphere. Only once have we waited very long for food (On valentines day) and if you happen by during the week they have a wonderful buffet. Nice place to introduce friends and family to the sushi experience! For those who aren't into the sushi thing there is plenty of other japenese specialities on the menu to explore. Pros: price, food, atmosphere more
