I'm sad to report that RuSan's has seriously gone down hill. I remember when I had friends in town on a regular basis and I would make sure that they each experienced RuSan's whil...

Chef, Funny, and mostly excellent food 8/25/2008

I can't understand those people who commented negative here but you know if I was you just check the place and you will not forget the place and the quality of the food. Someone said here to sit in the bar and I sat at the very front of the bar in which it was so fun chatting with the knolegable chef that explains almost the whole menu to me because I was so picky on foods but as soon as he knows what fish I wanted he narrowed it for me which helps me alot. He made all my sushi and gave me the most unforgettable bday of my life. He even let me dance on the bar because it was my birthday, and take note they let me shake my behind ...just one recommendation: sit at the bar and find Chef Nelson and he will do the rest and makes your day. Pros: Top food, Best Chef Cons: Unproffessional Hostess, Alright service more

Don't go for the lunch buffet! 7/28/2008

Now, I wouldn't expect a sushi buffet to be spectacular for 10 bucks, but I can generally get an idea for the overall quality of sushi from their free-for-all offerings; it'll be lower quality but not by too much. The lunch sushi was horrible. The knifework was poor, the rice was dry and cracked, the sushi vinegar mixture was not done correctly. I haven't ordered off the menu, but if their lunch is any indicator, don't bother! Pros: i didn't get sick Cons: bad food, inattentive waitstaff more

sometimes less is more... 7/22/2008

We went on a ""double date"" during the week based on a friend-of-a-friend's recommendation. The style was a fairly standard urbanish feel and the music was a little too loud. If you like a lot of choices and you're not picky, looking through their extensive menu(s) might be a good time...but since I know what I like, and couldn't find it amongst the 500 options, I tried to describe it to the waitress...but she was way to slammed to give personalized service (it took us over 15 minutes to get greeted.) The staff smiled and was polite, but we weren't wowed by any aspect of it. Its probably better suited to a group of friends who are easy to please and love sharing to try new things. I'm pretty picky, so check it out and, prove me wrong, and then talk about how cranky the girl who wrote the review must be;) Pros: selection, relaxed style, trendy Cons: too much selection, loud, very slow service more

Best Ever Sushi Place Ive Been 7/21/2008

Im from out of town and I had a conference here in nashville and I heard this place was good so I tried. I went on a Saturday night and the place was packed. I sat in the bar coz I was alone but I was surprise that a chef could talk to me and he is good I mean really good coz he entertained me so good and served me with his specials he said ( wich is out of the menu). Food was so GREAT, fresh fish and THE PLACE WAS FUN. Just when you go there I recommend for you to stay at the sushi bar and sit at Chef Nelson ( if that was his right name he gave me) and ask for his specials Pros: mbience, friendly chef Nelson Cons: Parking, ok service more

Eat and Be Wary 7/19/2008

I went to this restaurant for the first time tonight. I will probably not return. The Flying Kamikazi Maki was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. The Banana Boat Maki was gross. The rolls fell apart, so it was hard to get the full taste. Be careful with what you order at this place because if you order something you don't like, you still have to pay for it and you can not order anything else in its place...restaurant policy. When it comes to sushi, I'll stick to Virago and Sonobana. Pros: Quick service Cons: Quality of food more

Not a Good Experience 7/19/2008

I felt like this restaurant was so bad I had to comment. The food is not all that it's cracked up to be. The sushi was terribly prepared and the quality was not good. Everytime I tried to pick up the sushi, it fell apart. Not to mention that it just didn't taste good. I will not be recommending this to a friend. In fact, I will be letting them know not to go here. And the icing on the cake is that if you don't like what you ordered, you still have to pay for what you didn't eat. I ate all of 2 of the 10 pieces I ordered and had to pay for all of it. And the waitresses explanation was that the owners were ""TOO CHEAP"" to take anything off. It just wasn't good! Pros: location Cons: everything else more

Great Sushi Lunch Buffet 6/19/2008

If you need a quick bite for lunch, this is the spot. The lunch buffet is fantastic! Who would have thought that a sushi buffet could be good. There are some rolls that are so-so, but for the most part, you are getting a great deal for lunch. Also, I would recommend ordering the seaweed salad with the buffet. Pros: Cheap, Fast Lunch Cons: Not the best sushi you're ever going to have, Very loud, slow service more

This Restaurant is the Best !!!!! 4/19/2008

i have been all over the United States trying all different kinds of food specially sushi but this is the BEST!!! Fresh fish with the most accommodating Chef..... the place was so cool having a sushi with the loud techno music by which I like because Im still ""YOUNG' ..... not like those comments here probably they are veterans who does not like loud music. Pros: Fresh Fish, Excellent Specials, Chef Nelson Cons: Parking more

I AM ALWAYS RUSAN'S FAN 4/14/2008

Despite a lot of reviews here, Good or not good...blabla bla, I am still coming back to Ru san's, sometimes you don't get good service, everywhere else i go sometimes worse than here, but most important i've got a good food, music little bit loud, but hell yea.... is a fun place, i've met so many good people there, so Ru San's good job!, keep the buffet table full at lunch please! Pros: Good Sushi a lot of choices Cons: slow service more

Warm sushi, loud, and so-so service 4/5/2008

We enter Rusan's to see it is best of citysearch 2007 and I immediately think we are in for a treat. My wife and I have been looking for a good sushi place but have been dissapointed with the selection in nashville. As we walked to the back of the restaurant some of the cooks were speaking lewdly about my wife which got under my skin a little. The service was fast but not great. The sushi I ordered was really good...I think it was number 49...twice smoked salmon. Unfortunately the rest was mediocre. For a trendy atmosphere, loud techno, and so-so sushi try Rusan's, but as for me I will keep looking for good sushi. more

too hip for its own good 3/15/2008

after reading many reviews on citysearch in search of a decent sushi place in nashville, i decided to go to rusan's due to the great reviews. unfortunately, i was left disappointed and unsatisfied. firstly, even before walking into the restaurant, i could hear the loud ridiculous techno/trance songs played inside. luckily, it was to be expected but i didn't think it would be that loud. so loud that people had to talk over one another. not to mention that when i was placing my order, the waitress had to ask me several times to repeat myself. secondly, when i did get my food, i knew immediately that i would not like the sushi. i could see that the rice was far too cold/hard. thus making it taste awful. i asked for a personalized roll with just tuna/cucumber/cream cheese and that in itself was $10 which is a total rip off in my opinion. lastly, the service was not that great. the waitresses were curt and undertrained it seems. Pros: location Cons: everything more

Best Sushi Ever 1/30/2008

it was my birthday and they made my day so good. Just sit in the sushi bar right in front of the sushi chef specially infront of the chef NELSON, hes going to take care of you from the time you come till the end. He will help you just like one of my friend who does not eat sushi at all but he convince my friend and now my friend is so addicted to it. Ask also hes specials coz he said it change everyday. EXCELLENT FOOD, Pros: Excellent sushi chef ""NELSON"" Cons: service is ok more

Can't beat the dollar menu! 1/18/2008

This restaurant turned me on to sushi! My boyfriend and I come here all the time. You can't beat the dollar menu! I love the spicy salmon maki, and teryaki tuna maki. They also have a good menu of vegatarian sushi. We always leave paying less than 20 dollars, sometimes less than 15! We eat at other sushi resteraunts as well, but haven't really found a replacement for this one. Yes the music is loud and annoying techno. Its been a lot quieter lately, and you kind of get used to it. I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic dinner. It is a fun atmosphere and the Sushi cooks yell hello to you as you walk to your seat. I have had problems with service, but its usually okay. One girl tried to memorize our order. She came back to ask me to repeat it twice! I've also had problems ordering sweet potato sushi. The server said it was sweet potato and I had to insist that sweet potato is orange! Anyways, I will continue coming back because of the awesome sushi and good prices. Pros: Sushi and prices Cons: Service and loud music more

I WORKED THERE...IT SUCKED...TRY TO BE NICE TO YOUR SERVER 12/18/2007

I used to work there and trust me when I say it was complete hell. I saw firsthand how much the service sucked. The huge menu is hard to learn and they go through so many servers there are always clueless new ones. Then they force huge parties (12+) on you right away while you have to cover your regular tables. It was impossible! Especially when you have to split that 12 person bill by hand (nothing computerized or automatic). Not to mention they yelled at you and were generally abusive - and they wonder why they lose so many servers (usually the best ones, too). Pros: sushi!!!! Cons: pretty much everything else more

Recomended 12/10/2007

I came there because my grand daughter, i never eat sushi before, but i was familiar with Japanese cuisine, when i was stationed in Okinawa. Pros: i never eat sushi, but Ru san's make me like sushi! Cons: loud music more

Wow.. Best sushi .... 12/10/2007

I am from NY, just came to have a nice dinner, friend of mine recommended this place, after i tasted the sushi, i could not believe, Nashville has a great sushi restaurant like Ru san's, good service and friendly, loud music..but hell, i like it!, a lot of nice girls, little bit warm but anyway is winter!, i am from NY, so i felt warmer here down south. AAA Ru San's... Pros: AAA Cons: Little bit warm in the room more

Winter experience...... 12/4/2007

You wouldn't believe it! This had to be the worst sushi experience ever. First, the place was a meat locker, literally you had to dine with you coat on. Service was friendly, but no idea of what customer service means. The menu was TMI and yet our selection of sushi was fair and that is being gracious! We switched to soups to hopefully warm up and give the menu a second chance. Soup was good, green tea was bad. Sake martini was like no other I had tasted. Cleanliness was to be desired and if you enjoy being weighed down by your winter clothes, slow service, particles in your drinks........you will love Rusan's. I will spend my money elsewhere for sushi. more

Excellent! 11/20/2007

I don't know what this horrible service is that veryone else is talking about.. I went here for lunch with my cousin, and for my friend's 22nd birthday. The service was fine both times. Pros: GREAT, GREAT sushi and prompt service Cons: music is as loud as a club more
