I'm sad to report that RuSan's has seriously gone down hill. I remember when I had friends in town on a regular basis and I would make sure that they each experienced RuSan's whil...

It's dirty but at least the sushi is bad! 11/8/2009

This place use to feel hip and fresh. I hadn't been in months and months and was shocked at how it had gone way downhill. The place was so filthy, the staff seemed bored and detached (and slow) and the sushi all had a vaguely samey samey taste. I had one piece of salmon the was fishy fishy gross. I don't think I could be talked into going back until it's under new management or new ownership. Pros: all you can eat Cons: bad sushi, uninterested staff, DIRTY restaurant and bathroom more

Terrible Service 8/22/2009

What happened to this place? We get to the door, it's not crowded at all and we wait while the hostess looks at us like we are bothering her. After finally being seated, we waited 15 minutes and NO ONE came to our table. There were more people working in there than eating so I don't understand the problem. We finally left and I advised the guy at the cashier stand what happened and he just said ""OK???"" I call and ask for the manger, KENT, well, he couldn't come to the phone because he was going on a break??? I called back today and they couldn't tell me when he was expected to be in. WOW---there are so many people that need jobs???? more

Good cheap eats! 8/18/2009

I was surprised to see the amount of food I got with my meal. They also had an excellent selection for vegetarians like myself. I found the music pretty cool, kind of like being at a club, but I was still able to hold a good, audible conversation. The waiter actually came by our table numerous times, and we were not ready to order due to the large selection of food and our jabbering. I would recommend it for some good cheap eats! Pros: Excellent food, great prices more

Don't waste your time or money 8/7/2009

What a huge disappointment! First impressions are important, and upon walking in, you are in the way of those cruising the buffet while standing there waiting for a table. The service was awful. We had to flag someone down after sitting there for 10 minutes totally ignored just to get some water. We had the lunch buffet, and the sushi was horrible. Everything had way too much rice, and while there was a pretty large variety, everything looked the same, there were too many fried rolls, and there was no nigiri style sushi at all. The music was so loud and annoying you felt like you were at a rave in a night club, not a restaurant. We will never go back. I've spent the last 3 hours eating gum, mints, or anything just to get the horrible taste out of my mouth and nothing is working! Save yourself the disappointment. There are too many good sushi places to even bother giving Rusans a try. Cons: Horrible service, very loud music, tight seating more

Rusan's is the love of my life. 8/1/2009

okay, so i am reading reviews about the terrible customer service and yada yada yada. i have been here numerous times and the staff and chef's have always been kind and fun. the first time i took a bite of their sushi i fell in love. that may sound overdramatic but i love my sushi (gone with the wind is amazing!) and the places in murfreesboro where i am from rip you off. Rusans gives me a good amount of sushi for a great price and most of their rolls are HUGE. their one dollar sushi rolls are a favorite of mine too. i took my boyfriend here and he loved it, and i also took my friend here who does not like sushi so she ordered chicken terriyaki and she liked it alot she is also really picky with her food as well! the music is fun, techno, and great. Rusans is targeted toward the hip nashville scene. so, i am sorry if the music was too loud this ain't your grandparents house. deal with it. my boyfriend and friends LOVE it here. we dance while we eat, haha and if you sit at the bar and are nice and friendly to the chef they even give you free appetizers or dessert! this place is also right next to urban so after eating i usually shop. it's heaven. i love rusan's. :) Pros: brilliant, cheap, amazing sushi! free parking! Cons: nothing! more

Yum! 7/29/2009

I was so happy to discover this place. The sushi is quite good and extremely reasonable. Also, the teriaky rice ball is amazing (sounds weird, but try it!). I enjoyed all of the sushi I tried--4 rolls and a beer for under $20. They play loud techno music, but aside from that it's truly enjoyable. If you love sushi then give Rusan's a try. Pros: cheap but GOOD sushi Cons: loud music more

Affordable Prices but Horrible Customer Service 7/29/2009

I have been to Rusan's twice. The first time the service was mediocre; the second time it was horrible. Not only did the server get my order wrong, but when I attempted to correct her she refuted me. Finally I was able to get the ""sweet potato tempura"" I ordered. Not once did the server come by after I order came out to ask how we were doing. Our drink orders were only refilled when the server brought the check to us! To top it off my friend''s requests were blatantly ignored. He ordered the Asian Tiger Beef. While he didn't have a problem with eating ""marinated rare beef"", he didn't know the dish was served cold. After one bite, he asked the server if he could send it back and order something else. She refused. He spoke with the manger who also refused. When my friend pointed out that the menu didn't say the dish was served cold. The manager responded: "" You should have asked the server BEFORE you ordered."" Then my friend asked if they could simply warm the beef up. His request STILL was refused. I have worked in a restaurant before and have never had such an experience as this one where the customer was treated as if his/her opinions and requests did not matter. I give this restaurant four stars in making customers feel lousy and wishing they had spent their money elsewhere in this rough economic times. I guess its true what they say: You get what you pay for. more

Average food, terrible service 7/29/2009

I ate at Rusans with two of my friends. The food is cheap, but the service was terrible. The waitress was rude and when she got one of my friend's order wrong, she acted as if my friend was at fault. I did not mind so much that the waitress got the order wrong, but attempting to blame it on my friend is despicable service. When we asked to see the manager, he automatically took the waitress's side. Eat here if you want cheap, average food, but do not expect the waiters to be polite. Pros: cheap Cons: terrible service more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! 7/21/2009

I went to Ru San's for the first time on my birthday (July 2009). There were two fire trucks outside in the street with their lights on. We went in, were seated, and placed our orders. The waitress came back after bringing us our drinks and said that they couldn't serve us anything cooked. Turns out the fire department shut their entire kitchen down that night. There were employees standing on the stove tops/griddles cleaning massive heaps of grease off the vents above. The waitress knew what was going on, but didn't tell us until AFTER we placed our orders. So the noodles, soup, etc that we wanted was a no go. Why weren't we told BEFORE we ordered? The sushi wasn't all that good either. Sloppily rolled, too much rice. Overall a very dissapointing experience! There are many other fine Japanese restaurants in Nashville (try Hanabi in Brentwood) that serve good, fresh food and have great customer service. Ru San's isn't in that catergory. Pros: very little Cons: a lot more

um... no 7/13/2009

I go for quality vs. quantity. I've been to this place three times and have learned not to come back. The lunch buffet is not all it's cracked up to be; the rolls are poorly made (on a few of the rolls all that was inside was cream cheese with a piece of fish stuck on top) and though it looks like there's lots of different rolls they're all pretty much the same. Stay away and spend your money elsewhere. Cons: Sushi is poor quality more

Great Sushi and Fun Place to unwind 4/28/2009

Me and my boyfriend went here for some after work Sushi and what a great place. We sat at the Sushi bar and the Chef kept giving us free samples of things he was making and was very helpful in choosing off of their huge menu. The prices are right too. For both of us with drinks it was under 35 dollars which is great. The waitstaff seems a little unknowledgeable but if you sit at the bar the chefs are spot on! Pros: Sushi, Price Cons: Waitstaff Sometimes Unknowledgeable more

In Very High Risk of losing it's #1 4/27/2009

I have been living in Nashville since 2005. Ru San's has often been my place of choice to take friends who either like or have never tried Sushi before. Well... It used to be. Last 3 times I have been there, basically anything with rice comes with way too much rice. The place is so busy that they are getting very careless with the food, and are pushing out very low quality rolls. Don't get me wrong, the Sushi idea they have there has always been spot on, but the quality went down the drain. I don't know what is good in this place anymore. Except for the appetizers and Tataki portions, because the rest has gone to ***. Pros: Atmosphere, Prices, Variety, Location Cons: Service and Food Quality more

Go for the amazing lunch buffet!!! 2/18/2009

Living on a budget these days, Ru Sans has been the answer to my fiance's and my prayers! $10 all-you-can-eat sushi for lunch is good enough, but add the selection of hot foods like orange chicken, fried rice and tempura and you have an all-out deal!! We love Ru Sans :) Been there for dinner too, and it's of course, just as good then, but you can't beat the lunch price! Pros: Great lunch buffet!!! Delicious food Cons: Atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, and dinner can be a little pricey more

More trendy than tasty 1/2/2009

They don't have fountain drinks, just canned sodas. The music seems like it would be more fitting for a young girl's clothing store than a restaurant. The sushi is no where close to Wild Wasabi, Koto's or Sam's. I prefer quality to quantity. Pros: location Cons: no fountain drinks, annoying music, weird atmosphere more

Best Sushi EVER! 12/19/2008

I held Rusan's to very high standards because Nashville Scene readers rated them #1 Sushi Bar, and I had read many rave reviews about them, but one thing that didn't dawn on me was though they were rated #1 for the food, food does not include customer service in the rating. Pros: food, trendy area, nice setting Cons: service more

Closing Times 9/29/2008

On Saturday, September 20th, my finance and I went to Ru San's at 11:20pm and we were told by a server that they were closed. We stated that the door said that the closing time was midnight, and the server told us that business was slow that evening and they closed early. Although the front tables in the window were empty and dirty, the back of the resturant was full of people. The bartender did say to the server that the open sign was still on, the server did not respond. We even offered to get our order to go, and the server refused to take the order. He stated to us that it was late and ""people have kids they are trying to get home to."" We left, and the open sign was still ""on"". Needless to say we were very disappointed, we often eat at this resturant and enjoy it. And we do understand if we came in at 10 minutes before closing, that this server would be upset, but coming in 40 minutes before and being denied even a takeout order, just did not seem the right thing to do. My suggestion would be make sure you go early, apparently people that work there children stay up until after midnight waiting for them to come home! Pros: Good food Cons: Service is unpredictable more

Huge selection, decent atmosphere 9/11/2008

First off, most complaints I've seen say they wanted their food for free because they obviously had no idea what they were ordering... so you guys think you can go to McDonalds order a bigmac and then hand it back saying ""I really don't care for this, what else you got?""??? All your reviews should be tossed out and not counted honestly. The selection at this restaurant is absolutely huge. I used to go to Omikashi/Wasabi in my building but this place is 100 times better. Just about everything you could want is on the bar, sushi, rolls, a few hot items, etc. Great buffet for lunch! I would agree the service is a little lacking... but it's a BUFFET! Biggest gripe I would have is if you order a soda you get a canned drink, and refills are not free. I generally get water, or hot tea. You really should try this once, but don't order something you are not sure about... that's common sense! Unless you are willing to go with a group and swap out items if someone gets something they don't like. Pros: Huge selection, no rush atmosphere Cons: costs for soda refills, service a little lacking more
