I am very critical,& this was one of the best dinners i've ever had.Thali for a long weekend-first hot crispy eggplant fries & excellent margarita. Then a very filling and generou...

Worst

I recently took my partner here for his birthday with friends. We, too, were fans of the Herbfarm, but our Poppy experience seemed flat for us. When our thalis arrived it was co...

Bad manners 11/25/2008

Did not want to accommodate children. The food was bland and portions very small. Wait staff and management were cold and rude. Cons: staff, food more

The worst new place to open 11/25/2008

The worst place to eat Cons: not welcoming, chef needs taste buds more

a great idea that works 11/20/2008

My husband and I went out (with our 3 month old baby). This place is not what I would describe as kid friendly but they were super nice to us and moved us to a better table so we would have room for our car seat. The food was fantastic. Mr. Traunfeld had a great idea that I think really works. He took the whole small plate idea and morphed it so that each person gets to try lots of different things. I read an article about this restaurant about a year ago after he left the herbfarm. Everything was fresh which is amazing given all the little dishes and the right things were hot/cold. The only downside was that when we went back to our car two people were sitting next to it shooting up. They were nice about it and moved without even being asked but it was just kind of a weird way to end our nice meal out. It isn't the restaurants fault but it is part of the experience in going there. While I think it is great that he is trying to change Broadway by putting in an upscale restaurant, that aspect did not leave me feeling pampered. Pros: Food, food, food. Cons: Parking, heroin addicts more

Disappointed 11/8/2008

After reading all the great reviews we decided to check it out. Have to say, its probably my least favorite restaurant since moving here 3 years ago and we eat out on a regular basis. The service was great, everything else was disappointing from the cheap looking Ikea type decor to the stinky odor of the place and most importantly the uninspiring food. Is any of the food cooked to order at this restaurant? You are basically getting close to a dozen items served to you at once of vary temperatures and flavors. Just about all of it lacked in flavor, the green bean salad with chestnuts was the only standout. I think we spent $130 for 2 people so its not cheap. Considering all the great options in Capitol Hill these days I won't be returning to Poppy any time soon. Good luck. Pros: Service Cons: Everything else more

Finally, the way we should be eating! 10/10/2008

If you haven't been yet, what are you waiting for. Get a reservation now because the more weeks that pass the more booked Poppy will become. The atmosphere is great and the food is fabulous. I love the idea of so many flavors in one sitting and the portion sizes are perfect. This is the way more of us Americans should eat, small fully flavored varieties! I think it is great to be able to head to a restaurant where I can sit and enjoy conversation with friend and not have that interrupted by having to look at menu full of too many choices and fluff. Pros: Fabulous variety without having to think about it. Cons: Takes a little long to get your drinks. more

A welcome addition to Capitol Hill 10/6/2008

We live just 2 blocks from Poppy and have been eagerly anticipating its opening. We went about 2 weeks after they opened, and were glad we did. The thali will be a new concept to most Seattle diners, many of whom will NOT be happy with giving up control of the dining experience to the chef. You get what's being served that night, with no personalization unless you're a vegetarian or order the smaller version. But don't do that - you'll be missing out on some great creations, and besides, although it sounds like a lot of food, it isn't (which one person in our party did complain about afterwards). Pros: Innovative cuisine, excellent service, attractive room Cons: Parking difficult more
