Hard to believe a dog lasting 19 years, isn't it? Pros: SEE BELOW

if you love your pet, keep looking 10/30/2010

I've had them screw up special orders 3 times in a row. The last straw was Friday when I went in to get my cat's insulin I had called in days before. They didn't have it, just another lame excuse. Who needs a vet who jeopardizes your pet's health with their incompetence? If that was somehow acceptable I could save money and just not go to the vet. more

Service at my vet center 5/7/2010

I have taken my pets to Northwest Austin Veterinary for about five years now. I agree that some of the expenses incurred are probably more than other veterinarians, but I am willing to pay a little more to get competent, willing doctors. The front desk is always ever changing and the techs (the male techs - Aaron and Bryan I think) do an awesome job. Over all I would recommend this veterinary practice more

Worst Staff in YEARS!!! 3/31/2010

I've been taking my pets to Dr. Walden for YEARS, and the recent changes are HORRIBLE!! The front office staff recently lost all of its good employees. Where did Jennifer go? She was the best employee northwest has had in 10 years! There is no order or anyone who has a clue at the front now! And why am I dealing with an arrogant bunch of techs that have no clue how to assist vets? Where did Becky go? Did the management fire ALL the great employees and settle for keeping the lazy, sad-faced, uneducated 20-somethings? At least Matt still runs the kennel. Of course, at this rate, he'll be fired next. Then that place will be at the bottom of my list for places I'll take my pets. Sad sad sad. Maybe they're about to go out of business and can't afford good help?? If you have tons of money and even more patience, go to this vet. Just don't expect to get good customer service or a smile from the techs/new receptionists. Awful...just awful. more

Best Vet in Austin 8/8/2009

I've been taking my pets there for a while. For the first few years, it was all maintaince- shots, a UTI, spaying a new family member. This year, I had to deal with a couple emergencies and they were wonderful. I like their front office, esp 3 girls whose names I can't remember. For the reviewers below that said the front office is rude, I think I know who you're referring to and I haven't seen them so I think they aren't there anymore. I've seen all the docs there and like them all. I've mostly seen Dr. Breaux and Dr. Boston. Dr. Boston is wonderful and helped me with a very had decision I had to make and the staff was so great. Dr. Breaux spayed my cat and helped my dog when she was in extreme pain one day and I didn't know why. In these emergencies, the front office always got me in right away (my cat got an infection after surgery). I can't say enough good things about Dr. Breaux and Dr. Boston and I'm sure I could say the same for other 2 docs if I saw them more. I'm going to move and their office will be 25 miles away, but I wouldn't take my pets any where else. Pros: vets and staff are great more

Compassionate and knowledgeable 7/16/2009

We took our cat here for 14 years, even after moving 7 miles away. Dr. Walden is awesome! Our cat just died after a long period of health problems. He was very patient and caring, always taking time to talk about all my questions and concerns, whether on the phone or in person. We felt like our cat was in excellent hands, as far as the quality of care. As owners, we felt we were in excellent hands as far as getting the emotional support we needed during our pet's illness and when we had to put him to sleep. Pros: Caring, compassionate, knowledgeable more

LOVE THEM! 2/7/2009

I am so grateful that I live near this place! I went in just for vaccines, but my visit with Dr. Breaux made me a loyal customer. That was lucky, since just 4 months after my initial visit, my dog came down with a serious illness. The compassionate staff there made me feel comfortable, and after seeing a few of the different veterinarians, I felt confident that my dog would be fine there - and he was!!! I see that a few reviewers are skeptical of the front desk staff, but they were always compassionate to me, and made me feel welcome on my many, many visits during the time my dog was sick. I saw three different vets there, all of whom were exceptional, and their assistants were even cheery! I will be a loyal customer of theirs for all my future pets. Thanks to you all! Pros: Veterinary expertise, staff compassion Cons: In my experience, there are none! more

You can do better! 11/30/2008

I had been going to this vet as long as I lived in Austin and felt comfortable leaving my dog there during a week-long vacation. What a mistake! They never unpacked his bag, which had a blanket, toys and treats in it, and the staff left him in a cage for the majority of the week. I was told I had to pay extra for him to be walked, and when I went to pick him up, my dog looked completely traumatized and sad. I expressed my concern to the doctors...they were willing to listen but could not change what had already been done. I do not recommend this vet to anyone and will never bring any of my pets here again! Pros: setting, availability Cons: staff, cleanliness more

ok 11/11/2008

I've been going to this vet for 10 years. After Dr. Rafferty left, the service was not as good. The guys at the front desk were really rude and not very friendly or helpful. The doctors are nice and they have great office hours but I will be looking for a new vet soon. Pros: parking, location, office hours more

so-so 10/4/2008

Great doctors but agree with another reviewer mind the front desk staff (sometimes it seems like no one has a handle on anything). I'm not planning to go back - nothing specific just a vibe/feeling thing. more

Vets are good but the front desk staff is not 9/22/2008

With the unemployment rate being what it is, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff shouldn't be so hard to find. That being the case, I surely wish this office could look a little harder for their front desk staff!! They are neither friendly, helpful nor knowledgeable. I did like the vet and I believe they are competent, but can't imagine having to deal with Amber every time I need to call them! Pros: nice facility and the vets seem competent Cons: high cost, unfriendly office staff more

Dr. Walden is the best ! 7/4/2008

I have been taking my cats and dogs to Dr. Walden for almost 20 years, from his early days in practice. He is an exceptional vet, as well as a wonderful person. His calm, confident and compassionate demeanor is reassuring to animals and clients. I have a large number of cats, since I do cat rescue, and over the years he has been invaluable help to me in caring for sick and injured kittens and adults. He has seen me through many difficult moments when hard decisions have to be made and good-byes have to be said. The staff all know me by name due to my frequent visits and large number of animals, and they are all great. One of the reviewers wrote that they did not like the treatment they received by the front desk staff, and although everyone has a bad day sometimes, it would be rare indeed to have a bad experience at this clinic. Pros: Highly trained doctors, caring staff, great boarding facilities, easy parking Cons: None ! more

Excellent care! Dr. Boston is wonderful 5/29/2008

I use NW Austin Vet for my three dogs and three cats and Dr. Boston is wonderful. She recently performed surgery on my 9 year old mutt after he ate a stuffed animal. He had pieces of his intestine removed and his stomach patched up to get all the pieces out of him. She was also in constant contact with me about his status. I couldn't have asked for more. He is completely back to normal and is as jubilant as ever! He is, however, banned from playing with stuffed animals now. Pros: Top notch care, friendly staff, flexible payments more

Exceptional And Caring 2/8/2008

We had an emergency and knew this place was right down the street,so we arrive and they immediately rushed us in a room,a nurse was there on hand as we walked in the triage room, and less than two minutes later Dr.Boston walked in.This place gave us exceptional care, answered all our questions with the upmost patience, and describe to us everything that is going on.Prices are reasonable,Dr.Boston also has kept in constant contact with us,updating us on our kitty.I give this place a high five, all my pet children are going here from now on!!!!! Pros: amazing Doctors and staff, caring and clean. more

Costs too much, doest too little 2/7/2008

We're new customers to this clinic, and have so far been left with a very bad impression. We purchased heartworm medication for our dog, and were given the price of $99.96. I asked why it was so expensive (we paid less 6 months ago at another clinic), and the girl at the front desk said it was because ""prices have gone up."" I took her at her word at the time, but I later called around to other clinics (and looked online), and found out that you can get this medication for $70. When I went to return the medication to Northwest Austin Veterinary Clinic, the guy at the front desk said, ""We don't do internet price matching"" and added ""You can find it cheaper in other parts of town."" I guess they only want to sell overpriced meds to their snooty clientele in northwest Austin. Additionally, while I was waiting for my refund, I saw one of their vet techs in the back half toss a cat that was brought in for a spay into a kennel and slam the door. I would've been furious if my animal had been treated like that, especially before a traumatic surgery. Based on these experiences, we will NOT be returning to this clinic. You can find cheaper and more friendly places in Austin. Pros: They're professional vets. Cons: You can find professional vets that don't screw you on price. more

Best Veterinarian's and Best Veterinary Hospital in Austin!! 10/8/2007

We have taken our pets to Northwest Austin Veterinary Center for over 11 years. The medical care that was given to our very sick diabetic cat, was the very best. We also have two dogs that have been given great care over the years. We also highly recommend the boarding facilities!! This is a very beautiful hospital with great doctors. Pros: Experienced Veterinarians; Great Hospital; Boarding Facilities Excellent with Sunday pickup Cons: Boarding reservations get booked early during holiday's more

Not overly impressed 7/10/2007

The veterinarians are very friendly and caring but I have not been impressed with the staff at the front desk. The front desk girls are not very friendly and barely even make an attempt to make eye contact. On my last visit I felt ignored while sitting in the waiting area and while waiting to check out. On one occasion the receptionist failed to schedule my appointment on their books so when my dog and I arrived for her appointment we had to wait over 20 minutes and the front desk girl acted like I was lying about having made an appointment. The front desk staff could use some training on customer service skills. more

Best Veterinary care and Boarding Facilities 9/23/2006

We have been taking our pets to Northwest Austin Veterinary Center for 9 years and by far, they have provided the best care for our pets. The Veterinarians all have tremendous experience and the staff is very friendly. The hospital is very ""State of the Art"". Our pets love it. more

Attitude is everything 7/26/2006

These vets are the best in Austin. They know you and your pet and that makes a huge difference in how they interact with both of you, and the treatment they provide. Pros: Easy parking, fantastic attitude and availability Cons: Can't think of any more
