disgusting 8/1/2008

I have no idea why noone talks about it. Just check out KVUE's ""eat drink and be weary"". I used to go there pretty often despite of HORRIBLE service and long wait since this place is the closest japanese place from where i live. But I am never going to musashino EVER AGAIN!!!!! PLEASE, PPL, WATCH LOCAL NEWS AND BE AWARE OF THGS!!!! Cons: price, DIRTY, worn out interior, horrible service, sushi here is not even good, more

Some of the best sushi I've ever had (and I live in SF area) 5/27/2008

Ok, it took me a little while to get over the shock that I could get better sushi in Taxas than in Oregon. Not to mention I'd put Musashino in my top 3 of all time compared to Japantown in San Jose and select spots in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Not far off from Nobu...\r It's amazing. Many of their specialty rolls come with some crazy sauces I've never had anywhere else - that and the freshness of the seafood make the difference. We love this place and although it is a little expensive it is the only place we go for sushi now (1-2x a month). We've tried all the trendy places downtown and frankly they are just terrible and even worse compared to Musashino.\r Expect a wait and the bill - but the food and service is excellent. You'd think servie would suffer because most the staff is very pretty...but they are really good.\r We love this place. Pros: food, ththe bar upstairs Cons: the wait, parking more

Fresh Fish, Good Service and Ambiance but Overpriced 5/10/2008

After living in Tokyo with my husband for several years so my standard for sushi has increased from the California Roll to appreciating sushi for what it is: fish over rice (nigiri) or no rice at all (sashimi). 95% of sushi restaurants in Tokyo don't offer anything more but a tuna roll or a hamachi roll. Rolls with mango bits, cream cheese or spicy mayonnaise don't exist. \r \r Since I moved back to Austin, I've been to Musashino several times over and tried Uchi. Musashino offers an authentic Japanese ambiance with great sushi and consistently good service. The only negative I'd have is in their price. Musashino satiates the sushi craving just fine without the snob factor, more expensive menu, and long wait at Uchi. Pros: Consistent standards of food and service Cons: They do not take reservations more

Sushi Cornucopia ! 2/25/2008

This place is undeniably the ""gold"" standard of sushi in Austin! The service is usually spot on and the sushi is devine to put it bluntly! You simply will NOT find fresher cuts of sashimi or sweeter Japanese rice in central Texas. The Texas Hybrid Roll is a must try and will send your taste buds on a roller coaster of tantalizing flavors of sweet then heat. The way to maximize your experience here is to get the Super Deluxe (Tokujo Nigiri), it comes with 10 pieces of sushi and a traditional roll of your choice. Paco the # 2 sushi chef will not lead you astray on this selection. Please take my word and dine at Musashino and you WON?T be disappointed! more

BBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDDD 9/1/2007

i used to love coming here it was my favorite ""resturant"" in austin now ever since they changed the menu and so conviently jacked up the prices its not worth it anymore they have gotten really sloppy portions different everytime this past time i got my appetizer after the meal didnt get my drinks refilled not even once its disgusting what a turn off i used to look forward going here i dont think ill ever go back Pros: if you have time and money to waste on garbage you picked the right spot more

Worst Service Ever!! 8/12/2007

The service was terrible. We saw our waitress when we got there and had to ask for her 10 minutes later. We did not receive our drinks or the proper utensils. We actually had to get up and ask the hostess for them. I could not tell how your service is set up, but each table needs to have its own waiter/waitress. It seemed that there were just a bunch of people walking around. Our waitress brought our food, but that is the only other time we saw her. The people at the table next to us also seemed to be having the same issues. more

My Favorite Place 7/7/2007

I love this place. I've never had a bad meal here. The fish is always fresh. The sushi rice is a perfect complement to the fish. The rolls are a good blend of flavors. The only bad thing is the wait is long and the service is slow. Pros: Great fish, great desserts Cons: service is lacking and slow as can be, waits are long more

Disappointing 6/9/2007

After years of great reviews we were eager to try Musashino. The wait turned out to be twice as long as promised, during which we had mediocre, overpriced cocktails. We could have forgiven this as well as the incredibly noisy atmosphere if the sushi had been good. Instead, it was flavorless, with some pieces smothered in a mayonnaise-like sauce and others overly fried. It was barely a step above the packaged sushi available at H-E-B. If you're looking for stellar sushi, a quiet atmosphere and no wait, try Ichiban on Burnet Road instead. Pros: easy parking Cons: noisy; mediocre sushi more

Sushi so good the wait is worth it! 3/20/2007

I love coming to musashinos. They have a great variety of sushi and always different specials of nigiri so ask your waitress about them. Try the gyu tataki and the sugaki...absolutely delicious! The wait can get long so come earlier to avoid having to wait. Pros: great food/sushi Cons: waiting more

Foods Ok, Decor is Worn Out 1/31/2007

The dining room food is ok, limited selection. Sushi bar is above average with a good selection.\r I recommend the sushi but not the rest of the menu. The service is not consistent from visit to visit. And on several occassions I have had to ask repeatedly for utensils and napkins, t6his includes chopsticks. It seems that either want you to eat with your hads or they really don't like the food service business. Good luck. Pros: Good Sushi Cons: Poor Service and not a great value more

good sushi but poor service and not authentic japanese 1/26/2007

This resturant is over rated on city search. The sushi was good and fresh and enjoyable. I lived in Japan for 7 years and really enjoy good Japanese food of all types and enjoy good sushi. I took some Japanese associates to Masushino as they were tired of the great barbeque and Tex Mex and wanted some Japanese food. The wait was over an hour in the middle of the week. The wait staff was not very knowledgable about the menu and told us that there was no sochu and then we found it on the menu. This is normally served on the rocks but was served Masu saki style. The menu is very fusion and not very much authentic Japanese. The waitress was slow and inattentive as we ran out of water, would have ordered more sake if asked and would have ordered more food if she just came by the table. The sushi is good but a little pricey. Even the green tea was not correctly served but was the roasted wheat tea. I have enjoyed better Japanese at Uchi or even Thai Spice. Pros: good sushi Cons: menu was definitely Tex Japanese, service was poor. more

Great place!!! 1/21/2007

My husband, daughter and I visited this place a couple of nights ago and had a truly wonderful experience. The atmosphere was great, (not too posh, very comfy). It was our first time there and our waitress was one of the most informative and friendly people I've come across from dining out. She was very patient and had excellent suggestions since we decided to try things outside of our comfort zone. I highly recommend Vicki. I cannot express how fresh and diverse their menu is. It's a shame we have moved away from austin, but we visit often and will definitely be returning. Arigato!!! Pros: great food, great service! Cons: it's in Austin and not where we live! more

Sushi is delectable! Great restaurant. 1/4/2007

Musashino has really delicious, fresh sushi and appetizers. I am a sushi fanatic and very picky about the quality of my sushi. The sashimi is so fresh it feels like it melts on your tongue. Their avocado kama appetizer is awesome and I always order it when I go. The ozzy II roll also rocks if you like yellowtail and unagi. The only downside is that this place is a bit pricey but I think the food is definitely worth it! Pros: Sushi, Service Cons: On the pricey side, but worth it if you can afford it! more

Best sushi in town! 12/1/2006

I am originally from California and am a sushi fanatic. Needless to say, I've tried all kinds of sushi wherever I travel. I was in town for business and found Mushashino on citysearch. I read the reviews and was a little skeptical, but it was the highest ranked closest to me. It is by far in my top 5 sushi places of all time, and I've been everywhere! The appetizers are DELICIOUS (take your time with the menu, it's huge) and the sashimi was of the best quality. I did not try any of the rolls since I was by myself, but I will definitely come back to visit with a friend. The server was super friendly and very helpful in answering my questions. Highly recommended and will definitely come back next time I am in town. more

best sushi in town 11/7/2006

musashino has the best sushi in town. hands down. what can i say? I'm a sushi junkie and i got to have my fix. that place is always packed so get there early. the last time we were there we had to wait 45 minutes for a table. the server we got was awesome. she apologized profusely and got us going. if you never been, try something called the hybrid roll. it's amazing!!!!!!\r the avocadoe appetizer and the sushi is some of the best stuff i ever had. the wait can get long. it's a small place. but the service and the freshest fish in town always bring me back. Pros: great food, knowledgeable staff, sushi Cons: long wait more

Awesome Sushi, but PATHETIC.. and I mean TRULY *PATHETIC* service!!!!!! 10/1/2006

Ok, let me lay it this out for you - if you are willing to endure the WORST service in Austin to eat some of the best sushi in Austin, then go right ahead. While Mushashino has superb sushi, their service is HORRIBLE. I've dined in at Mushasino several times throughout the years, the sushi is almost always great - but I must be some sort of sadist, because having the most god AWFUL wait staff attend to me completely ruins the meal.\r \r I am giving Musashino a BELOW AVERAGE rating, because even though their food is fantastic (usually), having a rude unattentive waitstaff puts a bad taste in my mouth. Not only can you expect all of your appetizers, miso, salad, etc. to arrive with your main entree, you can also expect your FIRST GLASS OF WATER (IF YOU'RE LUCKY) then. You'll sit there for 45 minutes before you even get something to drink. They rush you in and out, they charge WAY too much.. and I mean _WAY_ too much. Money isn't an issue with me but I know when I'm being over-charged.\r \r Every single time I go, they don't have something I want. Hamachi Kama? ""Oh, we're sold out.."" Sawagani?? ""Out of season"" .. yeah right.\r \r I really hope the owners of Mushashino read this. Until they do something about their subpar service, I'll be dining else where. They have good sushi, but that doesn't mean they should treat their customers like that. When I order an appetizer, I want it BEFORE my main course. When I sit down at the table, PLEASE, at least bring me a glass of water whilst I'm waiting at my table for half an hour to place my order.. When I order HOT TEA, please bring me _HOT_ TEA and not some luke warm tea. I'll get one hot glass, and the rest are barely warm.\r \r Musashino - Get your service straight! It is all over Austin - ""Mushasino.. oh yes, good food - but the service STINKS!!!!!!"" Pros: Good Sushi Cons: Miserable Service.. Priced too high for that kind of service. more

Overrated! 6/16/2006

I decided to try out Musashino after hearing lots of raving reviews on this site. I must say this place is way too overrated and I am extremely disappointed. The sushi pieces were subpar in quality. They were also very stingy with the fish for our rolls.\r \r We went for dinner and must say that it is overpriced and overrated. Pros: Easy parking Cons: Subpar quality sushi more

Disappointing Service 6/15/2006

It was a bad experience. :( I used to like this restaurant, but it is getting worse and worse. My friend and I had lunch there today, but after we were seated we watied for over 40 mins without anyone taking care of or serving us, besides two glasses of water in the beginning. We finally decided to leave without eating anything, and talked to the waitress about our complaints and situation a bit. Disppointingly, the only response we got was a quick question, ""are you sure?"", and she walked away quickly. We were so irritated and didn't feel like going there anymore. Good business should bring higher quality of service instead of ignorance and arrogance. more
