Pretty typical prices for sushi at about $13/roll. The unagi is excellent and the rolls we had were all awesome. It is small, though, and it is very easy for it to get full so c...

My husband and I have eaten at this wonderful establishment more times than I can count. It is on our list as one of, if not the, best places for sushi in Austin. That being sai...

great sushi 5/30/2006

I've had some good sushi in my lifetime and I give these guys a top rating. Our server was one of the best servers I'd had in a long time. She spent a lot of time with our table (going over the menu, making suggestions, etc.) and it was much appreciated. :) The prices are low for quality sushi you are served. I only wish the atmosphere was better! That is the only thing I can fault them for. Pros: great sushi, inexpensive, good service Cons: small, crowded, hard to find more

Great Sushi 5/8/2006

I have had Sushi from California to Florida and rate this restaurants Sushi in the top 5 percent. We live in Fredericksburg, TX and drive 1.5 hours to eat at Musashinos. We can only make it there once a month, but we have been going there for more than 3 years and still love it. We always come late for lunch or early for supper so that we can eat at the bar. Service is GREAT from the chefs and they always remember our name. It is a mad house if you go there at peak times, but the Sushi is worth it. Pros: Great Sushi, Great Chefs, Nice atmosphere Cons: Small Place more

Extremely Average 5/8/2006

After reading others' stellar reviews we went to Musashino. The quality of the fish was exceptional but some of the rolls were not. What is it with Austin sushi places and the orange spicy mayo on everything? It has an OK flavor but terrible consistency and ruins perfectly good fish. Other than the rant everything here was perfectly average. The service was very good. I cannot understand why anyone would wait an hour to be seated at this restaurant. Cons: Crowded and small more

If only they had a drive thru... 5/1/2006

Like some of the other reviewers, I have had a bad experience at Musashino. We (a group of 5) went at 8:30, were seated at 9:30, and were rushed. Our server gave us only 10 minutes to order sushi, and at the end of our meal, we couldn't even order the desserts we wanted. I've never heard of a restaurant stopping their kitchen while customers were still seated. When we paid the bill, we paid with half cash and half card, and the server cheated us 10 dollars, so be careful. However, the sushi was HEAVENLY. If only it were a drive thru, we could have the sushi without the rude service. I think I will stick with Mikado Ryotei for equally delicious sushi, a better more formal atmosphere, and much more professional service. Pros: Sushi Cons: Service, Service, Service more

If you want fresh fish, this is the place to go. Try the avocado kama and the huge pieces of nigiri and you can't go wrong. more

not worth it 3/13/2006

The sushi was good, but I didn't think it was good enough to warrant the prices. The place was crowded and cramped. Not the place to go in Austin for sushi in my opinion. more

Great place, great food! 1/24/2006

Great place, great food, a bit of a drive for us but well worth it! We moved to Austin from California, and we were used to awesome sushi. We been going to a lot of sushi bars since we moved trying to find great quality, as well as, a warm, friendly place. Well, the search is over! We'll keep coming back for more! All we have to do now is get to know the sushi chef :) more

Extremely Disappointing 9/30/2005

I've been going to Musashino since the mid90's and have always thought it the best sushi in Austin, until a couple of weeks ago. I fondly remember many 3-4 hour sushi feasts at Musashino with friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere. This time, our server was rude, hurrying our order because a big group was about to arrive (note: our group was 5 people, chopped liver evidently). Perhaps she was overworked, but I felt like we were getting the bum's rush. The sushi tasted less than fresh and looked as if it had been chainsawed apart, very sloppy knife work. Again, I loved the old Musashino, but I was so turned off by this experience that I will not return. Cons: poor quality sushi, expensive prices, rude service more

No service, No Business! 9/30/2005

The food is OK, the price is too higr and the service is No. 1 poor in Austin. I am just a tourist here in Austin, I will say this is the No. 1 bad restaurant in the town! I've been to too many restaurants, and if there is any restaurant does not care about their serive, they don't deserve any business!! No matter how good the food is, if they don't respect their customers, they should not get any business!! more

Very nice sushi, but too expensive 9/18/2005

We went to the restaurant because we wanted to have real sushi. Yep, we could get nice ones, but...too expensive!! The place reminds me of some Izakaya style restaurant somewhere in Tokyo. If don't mind spending too much money for few fish, this restaurant is where to go...(Of course the taste is pretty good, too) more

Great sushi! 7/16/2005

If your focus is the food itself, don't think there is a single restaurant in Austin (Maybe even Texas) that compares to Musashino. Sure the ambience is lacking, service is a little slow at times, but the sushi is quite simply the best there is. It's rare that I go to a sushi restaurant and walk out feeling perfectly happy with a $80 bill, but Musashino never fails in that respect. Pros: Incredible Food Cons: Slow Service more

Mixed Reviews 6/19/2005

Has the best quality of fish in town. The chefs are dedicated, skilled and experienced. The sushi is why you come here. But do not think you are getting ""authentic"" Japanese cuisine and sushi, as I heard our waitress say. It isn't. Still, it probably is the closest you will get in Austin and is nonetheless superb. The sushi rice, however, is lacking in flavor and consistency. If there is a crowd, be prepared to wait for your sushi. Do NOT bother with the non sushi items. The service is very poor. You will pay a hefty price for your sushi. All put together, there is not much value in a meal, but I do recommend people drop by and at least sample the sushi offerings. It is located by Far West, so it is in an unusual spot, but their is plenty of parking. Pros: Fish Quality, Chefs, Parking Cons: Service, Value, Sushi Rice more

Musashino Rocks! 5/30/2005

This is by far the best sushi place I have ever eaten! I have tried it all over town and in San Francisco, San Diego, and Seattle. Only a little place in San Diego even came close. The Ozzy roll is the best. The Rainbow roll and the Gyu Tataki are outstanding as well. The Tempura Ice Cream is a gourmet treat! Come early for seating or wait in the bar upstairs and have a Kirin Ichiban on tap. On second thought don't come at all, I don't want a longer wait for a table! Pros: Rolls, Tempura Ice Cream, Ambiance Cons: Wait, Prices more

Disappointed & not the best in town... 4/29/2005

Don't believe the hype. I've been hearing about this sushi place for 5 yrs now, finally made it over w/ a group of friends last night. The service was not all that, our food took longer to get to us (we did have 10 at our table), and our waitress wasn't the nicest of the bunch. To top it off, I wasn't all that impressed with the sushi - it did not live up to the hype. I will say they have the best spider roll in town, but for the price we pay I expected more - especially service too. I may give them another chance, but not in the near future. They cannot accomodate groups larger than 8-10, and only seem to have one seating area that can do this, so good luck! Pros: Spider Roll Cons: Wicked waitress, Mediocre sushi, No big groups more

Sushi 7/26/2004

Musashino is easily the best sushi restaurant in Austin and in our openion, it ranks at the top of like establishments throughout the U.S. Pros: Fresh Fish, Good ambiance, great value more

Musashino's can not be rivaled! 6/10/2004

From the exquisite menu options, expedient and courteous waitstaff, to the ambience, Musashino's is my favorite restaurant. I have always been pleased with the food and impeccable service and nowhere else am I able to receive consistent excellence. The blue fin tuna, sake toro, avocado kama and gyu tataki are my favorite dishes that no one should miss out. They're the best! Pros: fresh food, service, consistent more

yummmy 3/10/2004

The food is great and the fish is so fresh and delicious that it makes the higher prices seem semi-reasonable. The servers are defintely NOT friendly though. Ive been to Musashinos at least once every few weeks for the past 2 years, and I honestly dont recall ever getting a nice or even competent server. But Im defintely willing to sit through some bad service for the food!! Pros: good food!!, fresh fish Cons: , bad servers more

Very Yummy! 11/23/2003

I loved the sushi here. It was the best I've ever had. Very fresh. Very pricey though. But you do get what you pay for here. Pros: delicious, pretty, warm towels Cons: very pricey more

Best sushi in Austin 7/25/2003

I used to live in Japan for a few years, and loved going to izakayas (sort of like tapas bar with many small dishes to choose from). This is the closest thing in ambience to that in Austin. They even play a good mix of Japanese music, from new pop to old pop to enka. The food is not really izakaya style, though. But, the sushi is wonderful here! They also have the more typical American favorites like tempura and teriyaki. Before we had our baby we would sit at the sushi bar, and the chefs there are friendly and can recommend the freshest fish. The lunch menu is pretty good too, you can get ramen, curry katsu, etc. Most of the crowd at lunch when I went were Japanese, which is a good indicator of authenticity. Pros: Fresh sushi, nice atmosphere, Authentic Cons: Pricey more

splendid 7/24/2003

Sushi has never tasted so good. Everything from the service, ambiance, to the most creative tastes makes this restaurant a must for sushi finatics. Pros: great service, ample parking, unique menu Cons: nada more
