Excellent 5/12/2010

I went to this place last week for the first time and have been back twice already. The bread is just like you get out of New Orleans and so is the andouille sausage. Since leaving the South 12 years ago I've never eaten at a Southern or Creole restaurant that I've liked- this place I LOVE! I've had a couple of po' boy sandwiches a sampler of Creole dishes and the red beans and rice and they were all great. Can't wait to go back and work my way through the whole menu. I'll admit they are a tad pricey compared to what these meals cost in New Orleans BUT worth it. I'd rather pay a few bucks more and get great food...especially in the Pac NW where people just don't know how to cook this stuff. Pros: Really great New Orleans food Cons: price? more

Sad imitation of NOLA 10/9/2009

We were excited to try this restaurant. I used to live in New Orleans and always want to find a place that serves that cuisine. We were very disappointed. We were the only table in the restaurant the entire time. Waitress/Owner couldn't provide descriptive explanations of food, forgot our salads and served our 4 entrees cold. 2 people had the French Quarter Platter - gumbo tasteless, crawfish pie -fair but cold, jambalaya luke warm. I had the Uptown Chicken - it couldn't have been a thinner piece of chicken with a bland sauce, same with Chicken Devin. Expensive!!! We were 4 people - 4 entrees, 2 desserts and 8 drinks - bill was $160!! The well drinks were $7.50!! Restaurant is cute, but the bathrooms were filthy - we were the first customers. Seating is chairs and benches and very hard for long sitting. Overall very disappointing and won't return. Too bad. Pros: intimate setting Cons: uncomfortable seats, expensive, bland food more

Great Atomsphere and Wonderful People 8/7/2009

Marcela's Creole Cookery has the only authentic creole food in Seattle that I have been able to find. And I have been on quite a search since I moved here in February. The blackened red snapper, crawfish pie and jambalaya are amazing. They also have all you can eat catfish night on Thursday and shrimp boils every Sunday. Which is a blast to take friends too who have never been to Louisiana or are looking for a new experience. The owners are down to earth and great people. I have been to Marcela's many times and have never had a bad experience. Pros: Atomsphere, selection, price Cons: Not opened on Mondays more

New Orleans Food in Seattle 7/6/2008

Marcela's Cookery - New Orleans food in Seattle - a place you should visit.\r \r My wife and I had dinner there this weekend, and the food is excellent, authentic New Orleans Cuisine, in a casual, brick walled, artsy atmosphere. Anthony, the owner, is charming and gracious making you feel that you are, in fact, in a little piece of New Orleans.\r We had delicious, rich Red Sapper and a spicy Crab au Gratin. Their bread pudding is hard to resist. I even tried fried alligator for the first time - I really liked this local treat. I truly had trouble deciding which of the many dishes to order, so I'll have to be back soon. The music is Zydeco, Cajun, funky and fun,and not too loud. The prices are reasonable as well.\r \r With all th taste - alike restaurants in Seattle, this one is different and delicious. Pros: New orleans atmosphere and authentic cooking Cons: limited bar selection more

cajun food in Seattle 6/24/2008

Went there last night, dissapointment and expensive too. Food portion was way too small. \r Gumbo: blend, no holly rolly trinity, rice was partially cooked, no sausage/andouille...need at least some cajun spice, file was a nice touch..NO OKRA! Alligator tail : Fried too long in cookng oil which in not fresh anymore, instead of golden brown, were dark brown with some burnt bits, tasteless, need at least salt and pepper. Salad: nothing to write home about. Veal Tchoupitouse : soggy crust was falling off the meat, Hollandaise Sauce was no way close to emulsion like it's supposed to be. Waiter was excelent in explaining the menu, kitchen crew needs basic deep fry training . However, they were open to comments and suggestions, and I hope food quality will improve, good luck. Oh, no bread or rolls either. Pros: Parking Cons: expensive, food quality, more

my new pioneer square favorite 5/12/2008

marcela's cookery is now my new pioneer square favorite. i work in the area and love that it's a quick 5 minute walk. but even if i had to drive, street parking is not too hard to find. lunch was fabulous. i had the shrimp po'boy sandwich...the flavoring of the shrimp was amazing. if you are in the pioneer square area or looking for a taste of the creole south, you must come by. more

Totally fantastic food, atmosphere and personal service! 3/26/2008

I was anxious to try Marcela's Cookery as I had heard from a friend that their original New Orleans cuisine was something they thought I would enjoy and appreciate. They were certainly right! When my dining partner and I got out of our car, we were hoping that the delectable smells that immediately teased our noses were indeed coming from Marcela's. Lucky for us, the food that creates those delightful smells fully met our expectations. Everything from the homemade red wine blue cheese dressing on my salad to the fresh, homemade pecan pie for dessert was so yummy! I am new to New Orleans cuisine, but now look forward to going back and trying more of their offerings. The atmosphere of the restaurant, as well as the personal service, makes this a place I want to take my sweetheart! Pros: warm inviting atmospere, personable staff more
