Julie Carrillo Rn- Woundcare (Kindred Hospital-Heights Houston,Texas
The bible says "be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. We as humans are always less comfortable and apprehensive about our new surroundings. This is the way both Michael and I felt when he was admitted into Kindred the Heights. When I say God has a plan for our lives and he's in control , this is an understatement. We first met Julie, one of Michael's nurse during the evaluation process. She was a cheerful energetic person explaining every step of the way and the reason for the evaluation. I thought to myself this perky behavior was not going to last due to my past experiences. A few days passed and she showed up to dress Michaels's wound with the same personality and attitude. Michael was a man of few words, but with Julie there was something about her that made him become more engaging in conversations with her. From the interaction with Michael , I began to observe what her true character was all about. As for Michael and I became more trusting of her, he felt free to ask her questions and in return she became comfortable with us. She was meticulous and gentle in caring for Mike's wound. You would have thought she was caring for the wound of a newborn. Her Woundcare was based on individual care not general care. Her nursing specialty may have been Woundcare, but what I observed was not beneath her to meet other needs, he might have .,such as assisting him to eat, changing his bedding and even helping him make a phone call to me. She literally called me with daily updates , just in case I missed her when I visited. At that time, I knew that this was not just a job for her, but a special calling on her life. Her God-given Faith was expressed in both words and actions. There was never a day that her faith was not in operation, whether through her professional skills or her personable behavior. She helped prepare me for when was to come. She was a stranger who became an angel .
