Best

I grew up in New York city and I'll tell you this, you're not EVER going to find the type of deli that New York city has to offer anywhere except for NYC. It's not possible to dup...

Worst

I haven't been to Katz's for a while. I usually go there on my birthday as a place of choice, and when I'm in the mood for some kosher grub. Anyway, we had some company in town so...

It's just ok 1/11/2007

over priced big time for the little portions (breakfast and lunch).Nothing New York about their portions. Katz needs to travel to NY more often as reminder to what a real deli portion are.\r It's very ok at best only good for weak coffee and people watching Pros: people watching Cons: portions are VERY small more

Great Rueben (and they're open late) 12/11/2006

I've always felt the food at Katz's being very good. Yes, it is on the expensive side - but I don't have anything else that's comparable.\r \r Service has also always been very good. At times it is a bit overcrowded (and then the service most likely drops a few notches). But I've somehow managed to avoid those times ;o)\r \r Love the Rueben and the Cheese Blitz.\r \r - manzoor Pros: Rueben, Late Night Cons: Parking, Price more

great pastrami.... 11/20/2006

i loved this place as it stays open very late so you can have some food in between bar stops. i am from nyc and was very impressed with everything including the pickles. i bought a retro t shirt and had a good experience. more

Bad food, bad service, noisy 11/19/2006

This place has really gone downhill. Last night I ordered the chicken-in-a-pot, which turned out to be a bowl full of boiled potatoes in a broth that tasted canned. There was a small piece of chicken, and in spite of the fact that we had waited an eternity for our meals, the meat was raw and inedible. I had to come home and fix myself something to eat. The meal reminded me of why I stopped coming here. more

Terrible 10/27/2006

This place has horrible prices, horrible food and above all horrible service. I ordered 3 different sandwiches and when I received them the bread was completely soggy and the fries were burnt and clumped together.. it was absolutely disgusting. 3 sandwiches alone cost me near $60 and I was extremely upset with my dining experience. I explained my displeasure with the manager on duty and he was very understanding and told me that he would have a gift certificate for $60 waiting for me in the main office. I then went to recieve the certificate and not to my suprise the gift certifcate was not waiting for me. The general manager then took it into her hands to let me know that my dissatisfaction with their business was purely my fault due to ""personal taste"". I could care less about $60, but the way I was treated furiates me! I do not believe a succesful business can carry on with the customer service that I recieved from Katz's deli. Their food is gross and their managers are completely disrespectful and uncaring. Pros: open 24 hours Cons: service is horrible and so is the food. more

best dessert 9/23/2006

I always just go here to get the Strawberry Therapy. A plate load of strawberries with chocolate and whip cream. Their fried pickles are delicious as well. Sandwiches are extremely overpriced. Nice ambience and staff. Great to go with friends after a night of partying! Pros: dessert, staff, ambience Cons: pricey, wait more

great staff 9/22/2006

I wanted to write a response to the review about the moron with the bass ale. First off the staff at Katzs has always been very friendly and helpful. I am sure if the bartender was making you rush to drink your beer it is because it was way past two. You are in texas for crying out loud. Have you never heard of the gestappo ( TABC) They do not care who you are or how much you paid for your drink, or how much you have left. The employee is the one left responsible. Besides all that I think the way you described the bartender I feel makes me appreciate the diverse city in which we live. Pros: food, eclectic staff more

yikes 9/21/2006

just visited the Katz's two days ago.\r Staff was very obnoxious with ""last call!!"" - this female cross of marylin manson & a body builder of a bart tender came standing next to me barking at me to either gulp my half full Bass beer in front of her or surrender it to her ...you got to be kidding! - after two gulps she grew inpatient and janked the beer out of my hand and dissapeared - cakes in the display looked truly gross - like wilted plants.\r The number one food item on the heavily over poluated menu, the cornbeef sandwhich was stuffed with a nasty immitation of meat, tons of cartilage...\r Do not go there. Cons: bad food, rude service more

Awesome Deli 9/13/2006

I went to Katz's on Saturday and it was amazing. I had the chicken salad and 5th Avenue pie. WOW! The fried pickles were great too. The atmosphere was nice. Staff was friendly and we were seated promptly. I will definitely be back. Oh yeah, don't forget it really never kloses!!! Pros: Great Food, Fun Staff, Desserts more

Great food, awesome service 9/10/2006

I had a great experiance at Katz's deli the other day. From the moment I entered until the time I left I was treated like a king. Mr. Katz was there to greet us when we came and left. The food was awesome. I had a chesseburger that was probably the best ever. A++++++ more

FRIED PICKLES AT KATZ'S IS A MUST! 9/9/2006

FRIED PICKLES million dollar coffee and home made potato chips and great customer service is why I frequently go to Katz's when in fact really never closes. I feel it really is a great place after dancing and partying to hang out with friends.Highly Recommend!! Katz's thank you for having such a unique place for"" Keep Austin Weird Austinites with love from Marilyn Monroe."" Pros: cool place overall Cons: parking more

Great Thanksgiving... 9/4/2006

Me and my husband went to Katz's for Thanksgiving and we had a great experience. To our surprise, there was no wait and we were greeted by a very friendly hostess. Our Turkey dinner was brought to us very quickly and it was amazing. The entire staff was great, and the management really took care of its customers. Thanks Katz's for never klosing. We will be back for Christmas dinner. Pros: Food, Hours, No Wait, Parking, Service, Food more

this place rocks 8/5/2006

I've lived in Austin for some time now and Katz has always been a place I like to go occasionally but lately I can not get enough. The service, food and overall experience is what Austin is all about. Price is more than your typical fast food place but for what you get it is a GREAT deal. I splurged this time and saved room for dessert and I will never forget to leave room for that again. I had breakfast at 9pm and you just can't beat that and then had some sort of chocolate cake mousse like thing that the server suggested and it was amazing. I can't believe I even ordered though after eating the best omelet ever that I was able to pick exactly what i wanted. I mean with the choices they offer you it is like every time you just build your own meal. The service I notices is very casual friendly and homey feeling and they seemed genuienly concerned that my friends and I where happy with everything. I felt kinda special when the manager came buy to check how i liked the dessert but then noticed they talk to every table to make sure they are happy. Normally I don't write things like this but just had to share how great this place is. I am sure many of us go there after the clubs at night since it is 24 hours but I totally recommend going sober one day so you can remember and notice how good it is :). Pros: service, food, dessert more

DELIcious 8/4/2006

Katz's begins with the unconventional choice of Kosher pickles and chips. I personally enjoy the #5 (Corned beef, pastrami, egg salad, and bermuda onion), but my companions enjoyed their respective sandwiches as well. I heard them say, ""This is a good sandwich,"" more than once that night. Pros: New York Style, wide selection, Kosher more

nothing to write home about 8/1/2006

Being that I am from Chicago I was really missing a good corned beef sandwich, I heard about Katz's on the radio and went. I am comparing it to an old plce I used to frequent called ""The Bagel"" and there is no comparrison, The sandwiches are tasty but the last time I was there the corned beef was fatty and bland, the very last time I went there was a takeout order of 2 large soups and 2 small soups, when I got home I had 4 small soups but they charged me for the correct order of 2 large. Also they boast deli/Jewish menu but they have no smoked fish or Kreplach. Pros: pretty good parking, service, plenty of pickles Cons: over rated food expensive more

The Reuben ROCKS!!!!!! 7/4/2006

Best NY Deli west of the Hudson!!!! & it never closes. The Rye bread is baked fresh & the pastrami is to die for. The cheese cake is my favorite dessert Pros: The food & the ambiuence Cons: I can't stay away more

BEST Deli Ever! 6/24/2006

Katz's Deli is awesome. I love the Reuben and Mushroom Barley Soup. The bar scene is great too. Don't forget to get dessert. WOW! I will definitely be back often. Pros: Food, Service, Bar more

Have seen all the changes and very happy. 6/13/2006

This new Chef they have now is the bomb, the Consume is actually rendered down chciken bones and people actually complain about too much meat in the sandwhiches...freaks! I have stuck it out with the changes and im very happy what it has become and where it is going. The NEW phillys are awesome and the pot roast has changed as well...not dried out anymore. Some people can deal with changes and some cant....I can cause its for the better Pros: Parking Phillys...Huge Sandwhiches Cons: 24hr place..on 6th....why complain more

Katz's should close -forever 5/31/2006

early dinner for two on monday. i remember when the matzo ball soup was fabulous. now a can of campbell's chicken noodle is tastier by comparison. i remember when the prices started to go up, but the food was still good. no more. a grilled cheese, a reuben, 1 bowl of matzo ball soup and 1 order of fried pickles. 2 iced teas. 50.00 after tip. crazy considering the food isn't half as good as it was just 5 years ago. the server was good. Pros: good service Cons: crappy food, expensive more

The most expensive and BLAH sandwich! 4/16/2006

The prices are RIDICULOUS! i paid $10 for a pot roast sandwich, $2.50 for a Diet coke (which was the best tasting item) and a tip for a total of $15! The sandwich was absolutely nothing spectacular; the meat was dry and flavorless! There are definitely many nicer places where one can go and eat AWESOME food for this price. This has been the worst restaurant experience and I will NEVER go back! Pros: NONE , NONE, NONE Cons: EXPENSIVE, OVERRATED, QUALITY more
