I haven't been to Katz's for a while. I usually go there on my birthday as a place of choice, and when I'm in the mood for some kosher grub. Anyway, we had some company in town so...

Forget the price..Savor the taste 8/14/2002

What is everyones problem with Katzs? I have been going to this place every weekend for the past three years. I have received my food both fresh and promptly EVERY SINGLE VISIT. I think the prices for the cuisine is very fair and, I also think people need to understand that since its a smaller space, its going to be noisy..but thats whats makes this place great!! Absolutely delicious....great choices, good sized portions. FUN atmosphere!!! I live hours and hours from Austin, but make a point to visit Katz' Deli EVERY time I am there!! Pros: GREAT food choices, Large portions, Open 24 hours Cons: Limited parking, Sometimes crowded more

Like many landmarks, expensive... 8/3/2002

Katz's is one of those places that everyone has been to, but far fewer have been back. There is a circle that loves and heavily frequents the place, and I have no problem with it, because the food is really quite good. Unfortunately, the prices are stacked as high as the reubens. There aren't many places that I really get stuck on the price, because I'm willing to pay for quality -- but I think Katz's goes even a bit beyond this. At 2am, short on options, it's a goldmine. At noon, there are better and cheaper options. Pros: good NY deli food, lots of parking Cons: surprisingly pricey more

good food, but man is this place loud! 7/26/2002

The chicken in a pot and the jalepeno bites are incredible. The rest of the menu is pretty decent as well. I enjoy eating there but it has gotten harder and harder to carry on a conversation. The noise level is off the charts. (The recent remodels have taken away some of the sound absorbtion.) more

fun late-night spot 6/27/2002

Went here when I was in Austin last weekend, and at midnight Katz's was still packed and going strong. Service was great, and the food was fine--nothing amazing, but good for late night--matzoh ball soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, salads and stuff. I'd recommend it. more

New York Deli??? 6/22/2002

If this place serves New York Deli than so does HEB and Albertsons. Several years ago on a Local Cable Tv program I watched an interview with the owner. On and on he boasted about how Katz was a signature restaurant and really convinced me that this was the place to go for great deli. I took some out of town Guest to eat there for Lunch and all three of us were in disbelief on the portions and prices. This owner is really getting over on people. I find it amazying that this place has stayed in buisness as long as it has, maybe the drinks keep it alive and running, but the food is a joke. If I was offered a free dinner or lunch there I would not waste my time, cause I could make something at home in about 5 minutes that tasted alot better. Pros: Good location, Nice exterior, Relatively clean Cons: Mediocre food, Small portions, Horrible service more

The food is pretty good, but the price is high for deli food, even though it's served in a sit-down restaurant. The NY memorabilia is fun to look at and there are a lot of unique items on the menu. more

Overrated 5/16/2002

I just don't find the food worth the price. The waitstaff isn't that great either. I had a sandwich that was ok, but not great. more
