I have had the unfortunate experience of living in an apartment building managed by K&B. Specifically, the Clifton Apartments in Beverly Hills. This building is managed by Ron Henry. A ""building manager"" who manages to be always unavailable and does nothing. Tenants have to perform management duties, like getting the washing machines fixed themselves and empty overflowing trash receptacles. Mr. Henry has harassed tenants to ""rearrange"" their parking spaces, as well as attempting to take parking spaces away, (""it's the landlord's right"", according to Mr. Henry) long after the tenant has been using the assigned space. Interestingly, he lives with a woman who is just a ""friend"" (according to Mr. Henry), who got kicked out of her previous home. Astonishingly, she has her own parking spot and substantial storage space in the garage, while everyone else pays rent for such amenities. She even has the audacity to claim she is the ""Assistant Manager"" to tenants, although K&B does not pay or recognize her as such. To make matters worse, several tenants spoke with Mr Paul Bronstein (Owner & the ""B"" of K & B) and he did nothing about the situation, absolutely nothing. In fact, he sees nothing ""wrong"" with Mr. Henry's complete lack of competence and ineptitude. It is also worth mentioning that Mr. Henry makes it known that he gladly accepts tips for performing his job, for which he receives free rent and a stipend, as well as soliciting tenants for loans. He also asks female tenants out on dates and makes crude remarks to them. Hollywood could not write such a script.
The building is old and often in need of repair. Fair enough, but for the rents they charge you would expect good work done in a timely manner. Not even close. Mr. Henry often doesn't do anything until the 3rd or 4th request. And then he hires unskilled handymen to do ""patch work"" that will need to be done several more times. I have extensive carpentry and construction experience and can tell you this is some of the worse ""work"" I have ever seen.
I know for a fact that many respectable tenants have left this building precisely because of the lack of service, cleanliness and overall shoddy treatment they received while living here. What's worse is that if you take your concerns to Paul Bronstein you are not treated with the respect of a client paying good money for the space. Do not expect a return call from Paul or Steve Kelman (Co Owner of K&B), they don't deal with tenants directly. You will have to keep calling them and are lucky if you get past the gatekeeper. If you are fortunate enough to get their ear, you are made to feel like you are bothering them with your ""trivial problems."" K&B is, however, very much on top of making sure they raise the rents regularly. If my experience does not paint a picture of the fundamental lack of management skills, lack of basic decency and void in character by K&B Management, then I don't know what does. Living in this building is a complete fiasco, from the building manager to K&B owners. Given the lack of ethics and character displayed from the bottom of management to the top, you cannot expect a pleasant living experience from a property owned/managed by K&B property.
