Great Place Great Food 1/7/2012

This restaurant is one of our favorites. Went there for dinner tonight and loved it. The food is always fresh and the wine prices are always reasonable. Highly Recommend. more

UNACCEPTABLE BUSINESS PRACTICES 11/25/2011

I travel to Houston on business on average once a month. I have been a regular guest of this establishment as I truly enjoy the food and the very good wine list (at very fair prices). HOWEVER, I felt compelled to warn and advise all past, present, and future patrons of this establishment's DISCOURTEOUS and INEXCUSABLE business practices relative to reservations. In brief, I made a reservation for 20 people for mid-December. The intention was to entertain members of one of Houston's largest businesses and one of my company's largest customers (think major oil and gas company). The reservation was made the first week of November and I was offered the option of a private room or the main dining room. One week later I was contacted by a staff member of Ibiza and advised that the owner decided to close the restaurant the evening of my reservation for a private party. In other words, a larger and more profitable party called and booked after my CONFIRMED reservation. To add insult to injury, I received a half-hearted apology and only after I requested assistance from Ibiza to help mitigate the circumstances, I was offered a reservation at one of Ibiza's sister restaurants (one that I considered of lesser quality). Absolutely no other compensation or apology was offered. Needless to say I found alternate reservations at a much more professional establishment, and one that I deem much more worthy of the dollars that will be spent that evening. I am sorry to say that Ibiza has lost my future patronage, and probably the patronage of several residents of Houston who are frequent guests of Ibiza. more

Houston's Best Kept Secret(Almost) 3/3/2011

Ibiza has something very close to the perfect amalgamation of everything that I look for in a restaurant. I have lived over three continents and eaten in restaurants that charge anywhere from 20 cents to 300 dollars a head. I can tell you that good food is hard to find, and there isn't necessarily a correlation between price and quality. Food is definitely an art, and it takes an artist to get is right. The chef Charles Clarke is indeed an artist of his craft. He was even on Iron Chef. Each dish is obviously been crafted with care and intention to bring flavor and rich culture to each plate you order. I've eaten here many times, and I have never tasted anything there that falls short of delectable. From presentation to taste, it never fails to impress. The second factor in their fantastic combination would be the service. Many restaurants make you feel uncomfortable with how pompous the service attempts to be. Ibiza finds the perfect median between warm and friendly and professional and accurate. Each server has been attentive, knowledgeable, and above all, they are about what they are doing. It is a well run establishment, and you can sense that the employees believe in it too. The final element would undeniably be their wine prices. Along with their incredibly reasonably food menu, the wine is almost illogically well priced. Other places, whom I shall not defame in this review, would charge by the glass prices at the same rate some of the bottles are priced at in Ibiza. They do not raise the prices on wine beyond what they can collect reasonable returns on. It's refreshing to a see an establishment that actually cares about the wine, and wants people to be able to experience them at, or close to the most reasonable price possible. All in all, it's a combination that makes Ibiza one of the hottest places to be on any given day of the week. The only thing I regret is that citysearch only allows me to rate it at 5 stars. But don't take my word for it. Drop by and see for yourself. You'll be sold, I guarantee it. more

decent food, awful service 2/26/2011

I can't believe I'm returning to this place; it was on my 20 year S____ list. Someone else who's treating insists on going there. The service on the last visit was among the worst I've ever had in a restaurant. The table of ""guys"" at the next to us had fawning service from our waiter, so I guess it varies depending on ??????? In a returnable restaurant, it should never vary. more

Former Ibiza fans...no longer 10/19/2010

My husband and I have dined at Ibiza on several occassions - with appetizers, entres and wine usually spending about $140, before the tip on average. But our last dining experience has made us question what was so great about that place, anyway. more

Great food, okay service and a little pretentious 8/16/2010

The food is fantastic. That said the portions are very small. I realize that it's tapas, but it's a little ridiculus at times. If I'm paying $15, I expect a little more than a 2 inch by 1 inch piece of fish. more

where the beautiful people go to be disapointed 9/25/2009

After being told our first two bottles of wine we ordered were not in stock we finally selected one that they had and the absent minded waiter brought it to the table after we had completed our appetizer. We shared the shrimp with crabmeat cornbread to start the shrimp was great and it was completely destroyed by the cream sauce that was slopped all over the top of it. I then got the Lousiana Redfish which was fine but no better then grilling a piece of fish at home. My wife got the pork chop with madera wine sauce which was a huge slab of meat but brined so heavily in salt that it took away any essence of what the chop could have been. Overall if I was going out for a $100.00 + dinner ibiza would not be the place. Service was awful, food was forgetable, and atmosphere was stuffy with all the beautiful people acting ""beautiful"" and as if they could have their own reality show. Pros: outdoor dining Cons: service, food, atmosphere more

Good food and Decor 9/9/2009

I came with a group of 15 and made reservations for a birthday party. The decor and set-up of the restaurant is eloquent and nice ambience. I order the lamb chops and have to say that it was excellent. The portions of all the entrees were more then enough, excellent wine, and the wait staff was excellent in service. I would have to agree that it is pricey but you do get your money?s worth. Only con I have is that they actually charged me $2 per slice to cut a cake I brought in myself which I felt was overbearing since spending nearly $800 in dinner and wine. I?d definitely would come again for the food and recommend everyone to try it out at least once, just be prepared to come on an empty stomach and have your wallet ready. Pros: Food, Decor, Service, Portions Cons: Charged for cake cutting more

service is poor 8/14/2009

We were there a week ago for a dinner. Unfortunately, the waitress waiting for our table was extremely rude! It was a very unpleasant experience. We really regret that we went. Pros: ok food Cons: rude servers. more

Very expensive 8/2/2009

This was one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. They had really good food and fare prices. But suddenly they increased the prices. The cocktails are extremely pricey. I was really disappointed. Great loss!!! Pros: Good Food Cons: Really expensive more

Mimicked my accent?? 6/10/2009

I've eaten at Ibiza twice before and loved it, the food and wine is up to my English standards. We have got relatives over from the uk which we are taking there tonight. However, when phoning to book our table this morning, the person who took my booking thought I'd hung up and started mimicking my accent. I'm not impressed at all by this because it's so rude an unacceptable. I hope that person is working tonight as I have a very big tip for him - learn some manners! more

Great service great food 6/2/2009

We are from louisiana, so the menu had a noticable amount of the cajun and creloe cusine we know and love, We were greeted by a friendly young blonde erin who was very knowledgeable about the menu the wine, and the resturaunts both ibiza and catalan, she told us of catalans chef chris who we are dying to try, and gave us a brief history on ibizas chef charles, who suprisingly made his way to the table, wow!!! talk about service we were so impressed, then our apps came which was the shrimp and crab corn bread another must try WOW !!! the dinner and experiance is truly worth a try, they will make you feel like your right at home, there is a certain chemistry here that most resturaunts cant capture, and boy yall have got it!!! thank you all for a memmorable evening. Pros: The best staff, wine list and food in town Cons: none what so ever more

Very Good, but not a good value for money. 5/22/2009

We had wanted to try Ibiza for quite some time and finally went on my wife's birthday. The ambiance was nice, nothing great; patio seating was nice but a bit warm. We started out cocktails which were outrageously priced. Appetizers: SPANISH OLIVES, JAMON SERRANO AND MANCHEGO CHEESE - nice to start, but slicing ham and cheese doesn?t take a culinary genius - 2 Stars. LONG STEM ARTICHOKE HEARTS WITH SARDINIAN STYLE FREGOLA PASTA AND BLACK OLIVE OIL - very nice, tender with mild flavor with something like couscous-3 Stars. Entrees: GRILLED LOUISIANA REDFISH WITH SHELLFISH COURT BOUILLON AND SPICY TASSO RISOTTO - Nice flaky fish cooked perfectly, nice mild broth, the risotto was the stand out in the dish, it was excellent - 4 Stars. MOROCCAN GRILLED SHRIMP WITH GOAT CHEESE POLENTA - Shrimp were small but not over cooked, nice flavor. Polenta was pureed and relative tasteless: 3 Stars. Wine: CADE-SAUVIGNON BLANC-?PLUMPJACK? NAPA VALLEY CA ? Nice bottle of wine at a reasonable price, however nowhere on the label was ?Plumpjack? mentioned but I later learned this is a ?value label? from the Plumpjack folks. They brought out ?Loving Cup? of cotton candy with a sparkler on top for my wife?s birthday which she thoroughly enjoyed. All in all, a bit pricey relative to food quality. BIGGEST COMPLAINT!!!!!! You are forced to use Valet Parking or park somewhere on the street and walk up. When we arrived there were more than a dozen empty spaces with ?cones? blocking them for the valet. The valet took my car and pulled into a spot less than 20 feet from where I stopped at the valet stand!!! I don?t need or want valets parking my car, but you have no choice. In order to have my voice heard regarding the valet issue, I won?t be returning to Ibiza until they learn to let the valets walk and reserve the parking up from for customers. Pros: Wine Selection and Prices Cons: Price/Parking more

The Best Place in H-Town 3/23/2009

Starting with our Hostess Kelly, and ending with our Server Chris B we had a fabulous time and the greatest service. Our reservation was perfect and the hostess came to the lounge to take us over to our dining table with a huge smile. No electronic pagers here. And staff happy to be on the job ...what a concept!! Our server Chris is a wine expert (as far as we are concerned) whose knowledge of the wines and the list proved invaluable. I was entertaining a group from out of State and they were very impressed and likened their experience to some of their favorite NYC restaurants. Every dish recommended was as promised and wonderful. Kirby Fries rule ! Everyone tries to copy these fries and no one has succeeded. Best restaurant wine prices we have found well. Great job !! Oh and what ever the occasion the cotton candy presentation will make you smile and bring out the child in you - we can all use more of that. Good Job all !! Pros: Best Servers/Hostesses in Town/Food/Wine in town more
