Not so great service.... 4/25/2007

Rented a concrete trailer and bought a load of concrete from these guys last weekend and despite being made to wait 20 minutes before filling out the paperwork and another 15-20 minutes to make room in their small lot, hook up the trailer and mix the concrete I didn't mind since mixing your own concrete is a lot of work. The last thing I asked before leaving the lot was "will I be okay if I get this back to you guys by 12:00-12:15 since it took so long to get loaded up? (they have a 2 hour limit on the trailer rental before charging extra). I got a reassurance from the guy on the lot and went on my merry way. After dumping the concrete and sending my wife back with the trialer (arrival at 12:15) I thought everything was fine until I checked my visa and found they charged me for an extra hour of rental time. After calling them I got the run around with them telling me I left the lot 15 minutes earlier than I actually did and returned 15 minutes later. I explained the situation and the hold up at the lot etc. The response I got was this is the way we usually do it and your check out time was blah, blah, blah. So what they were really saying is if you make a reservation the meter starts ticking then even if it takes a half hour to get you on your way. This situation is currently in limbo, but my advice is don't rent from Handy Andy unless you're in a pinch and even then expect to get nickel and dimed unfairly unless you specifically have them note the times you leave their lot and drive back on their lot to drop off equipment. more

Perfect for what I needed them for 1/2/2007

Right down the block from home depot and $20/day for a 'well used' pickup. It's perfect for the hauling stuff to the dump. The truck is already dented and dirty so you don't have to feel bad about loading it up with all your mess. Heck you don't even have to worry about cleaning it out afterwards, because no would notice anyway. And the damage waiver, I never get it, I mean how are they going to tell which dent is the one you put in it? I have rented from them 5-6 times and will surely rent again. It's just down the road from Home Depot and Lowes, and if I think I'm going to need more than the 75 min you get on the Home Depot rental truck, I go to Handy Andy's. more

Dawson Street Developing I love Handy Andy's. Trucks always available, great prices, never had any issues with any of our truck rentals. Have been renting from them for 10 years. As a leading Real Estate Company, I have no Complaints. One of the benefits unlike commercial rental companies, they allow 24 hour rentals without a fuss. You pick up at 3 your return at 3 the next day with no hassles. I have returned a few hours late and they were understanding, no extra fee's. I had also a few emergencies were I needed to keep the truck several days beyond my contract I had no issues. I would definitely recommend. For other contractors we recommend please feel free to visit my site at www.dawsonstreetdeveloping.com more

Poor Quality with a Side of Attitude! 8/14/2006

I've rented from Handy Andy several times, I've decide to move on to more expensive, but less dangerous providers. The truck I just rented had a defective Parking Brake (not a good thing), a drivers-side mirror that would move in a strong wind (literally), and AC that didn't work (OK, maybe I'm getting picky on this one). I allow rented an auger that kept going dead - even with the fuel position correct. Net is that the quality is a little shoddy, but the prices are pretty good. They gave me a "discount" on the auger when I complained. Lastly, some of the folks at Handy Andy are quite pleasant and patient with people who only rent these types of tools on a sporadic basis. However, a few of them give the distinct impression that you are bothering them with your mere presence... Seems like a lot to go through. Next time I'm trying a different outfit and see if it works out better. more

Recommended Handy Andy 8/1/2006

I'll rent a truck this week and write more about that but the truck price is quite a bit less than other main line move companies, so you should call handy Andy as one of your move truck bids. For various other rentals--I rented a roto-hammer drill to make some holes in the concrete wall of my basement--Handy Andy's is a good place. Aurora rents on 175th in Shoreline is also a good place for general rentals. Both of these places were suggested to me by the folks at Dunn Lumber. more

Hi scary rentals 2/8/2006

I have rented from Handy Andy a total of 2 times, with this last time being my final. On my second trip, I rented their typical 14' box truck and had to drive it about 100 miles round trip. The truck had the typical steering wheel behavior with about 20 degrees of movement either way, yet you are still going straight. Not only that, but I seem to remember the check engine light being on, and it wasn't like these were new trucks anyway. Overall, I was okay with the rental until I got to the gas station. Filling up with gas - no big deal, right? Well, I started filling it up, and I noticed gas coming OUT below the truck, near the gas tank neck part. After that scary fiasco, I will never be renting from them again. Personally, I think you take your chances with safety and its kinda ghetto from the get go. On the other hand, if you want something cheap, and you won't be traveling far, then this is your place. more

Cheap, no frills, good service 9/23/2005

This is the place to go to rent a truck - their prices are good, the service is efficient (although you might wait in line a bit at the end of the month) and the trucks run fine, even if they're not super attractive. They've also got a large inventory, so you've got a good chance of reserving something, even on a busy weekend. more

Cheap Tool and Truck rentals 8/17/2005

Handy Andy is the cheapest best option in my book for Tool and Truck rentals. Their staff will help you figure out what tool you need if you’re not sure, and make sure you know how to use it before you leave the lot. It can get a little crazy first thing in the morning—consider parking on the street instead of getting parked in the parking lot. They have every tool I could ever need, and don’t need to buy thanks to them. more

Wide array of rentals 6/29/2005

I have never used them, but I know that they have a huge array of rentals (trucks and otherwise) and that their prices are reasonable. When I talked to someone at Home Depot, even they recommended going to Handy Andy. The one on Aurora is the one that I know of, but I think there may be others in the city. more
