Best

Guero's is so yummy! The food and service are well worth the wait (which never is too long due to the efficiency of the staff). I highly recommend the queso flameado and shrimp ...

Worst

This restaurant, to me, was highly overated in the Austin area. The food is good, but there are other restaurants that are better. The ambience is awesome. Very cultural! Pros:...

I love Gueros for their chicken tacos. 5/20/2012

I love Gueros for their chicken tacos. Prices are about average. Crowded a lot but nice place to wait. Margaritas are good, not too sweet. more

crazy 12/10/2010

Man this was crazy. the waiter took over thirty minutes to bring the food which was not hot then another twenty for the check! I don't have that kind of time to waste more

Eh... 11/25/2010

Can the service at Gueros just get a little bit better please? I love the food and the margaritas are pretty good too, but this is almost always spoiled by moody waiters and 25minute refill or check delays. Please get some good waiters Gueros! I would love you so much more more

Terrible service 11/5/2010

The food at Gueros is good I'll grant you that, but the service will make you stay far far away. Slow, indifferent, careless are some of the adjectives I can use to describe the wait staff. more

Snob land. 9/1/2010

Maybe if we had dressed differently and acted snobby, maybe a a snob working there would have noticed me and my friend. Finally, we were seated outside amongst the pretentious snobs that were hob knobbing with thier snobby looking little dogs. Fe-fe must have her sweater and jewelry. Took forever to get the food, had to pay extra for guacomole and salsa, how fkg. cheap is that?!!! Food wasn't anything I couldn't have done myself at home. Curras kicks this places butt! So they have outdoor tables, big frckin' deal. That's not enough to erase the memory of the service and food. more

Bad Bad 3/28/2010

We were in Austin, TX for the first time ever this weekend for rowing meet. Waited for awhile to eat at Gueros. Server could have cared less about us...we had to ask for for water. Order guacomole (sp?) and she put the order in as queso...and we continued to wait. She was paying alot more attention to the table of older, richer looking folks next to us. We finally flagged down a bus boy who was awesome. Food was marginal at best and slow to get to our table. The fastest part of the whole meal was when my husband gave the server his credit card. I kid you not, it was less 30 seconds and she had it back to him...wanting to free up the table for the next round of suckers. Try Serrano's instead of Guero's...you won't be sorry you did. This place gets by on being ""famous"" versus serving good food and providing good customer service. Pros: Salsa bar Cons: Bad attitudes, Just average food more

Cool Location and Atmosphere, Mediocre Food and Service 10/20/2009

Guero's is in a cool old building, right on Congress in a very interesting part of Austin. The food is ok, about a C+ compared to other Austin places. (Note to people from California, Arizona and New Mexico, Tex-Mex is definitely on the bland side, you will not be impressed by any ""Mexican"" restaurant in Austin. Even the Queso they swear by is about as hot as taco bell) Guero's is a perfect place to get a patio table, have a few margaritas, eat some queso, and watch the people and cars on Congress. A somewhat downside, it seems Guero's gets it's crew from the same place as Thundercloud. I like an eccentric crew as much as anyone, but it's not cool when your waiter looks like he hangs out under I-35, and can't remember a beer order for longer than 38 seconds. Pros: Atmosphere is Awesome Cons: Stoner Burnout Wait-staff more

sux! 8/27/2009

Horrible service. horrible, over priced food. my trip to guerros was one of the two occasions when i have actually written a poopy note to the waiter/manager. It is soooo not worth it!! Pros: beans Cons: everything that's not beans more

Worst mexican Food I EVER Had!!!!!!!!!!!! 8/23/2009

The only reason I came here was because i heard it was a celebrity hot spot. I had seen a picture of keanu Reeves walking in the front door last christmnas with Richard Linklater. I figured if it's good enough for them it's good enough for me. BOY was I wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 Pros: Hip area of Austin Cons: limited parking more

HORRIBLE/RUDE SERVICE and subpar food 8/19/2009

I held a large group birthday party no too long ago and it was an absolute nightmare. First, they don't accept reservations, which I think is ridiculous because it's too popular not to have some sort of reservation system. My group consisted of about 18 people and I had my aunt arrive earlier to help me try to save an area for my party. They had tables available so a waiter lead her to a large area to accommodate our party. He was very nice and everything seemed fine. Approximately 15 minutes my group showed up ready to eat and drink. Little did we know that the manager was throwing a hissy fit because we weren't exactly on time and started harassing my poor aunt who was just trying to help me out. He threatened to throw us out and sent waiters to complain about us taking a larger portion of the restaurant and not being on time. We were a group of early twenties ready to spend tons of money on food and drinks. I was absolutely floored that he was being so RUDE. Finally my husband had to confront him and he was a completely rude and even yelled at him. We ended up staying and endured a half-hearted bday celebration. I was embarrassed and mad because my family had to end up leaving because he was so rude. THEN on top of all of this the food was not that great and neither were the drinks. Several waiters and waitresses were apologizing as we left because they were even embarrassed by this manager. I hope this man is not there any more. JUST DON'T GO!! DON'T SUPPORT A RESTAURANT THAT TREATS ITS' CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS! Pros: Outdoor patio area Cons: Horrible/Rude service/RUDE MANAGER more

Terrible food at Guero's 8/15/2009

My family went to Guero's this week and ordered beef fajitas. The meat was completely dried out, full of gristle, and completely tasteless. Guero's seems to be using the cheapest cut of meat they can find. As native Texans we can honestly say those were the worst fajitas we've ever eaten. Guero's is trading on its SoCo location and past popularity. The food gets worse and it doesn't seem to matter to them. Don't go. Maybe they'll eventually get the message. Pros: Quirky decor at entrance Cons: Bad food, bad margaritas more

""Not Tex-Mex"" equals not ""good service"" 1/20/2009

I decided to do a condensed review here that will be submitted to the Austin American Statesman. Pros: Food Cons: Service-Cocky more

Rude, Overpriced and Filthy 1/15/2009

I'm an Austin native who was home for the holidays and wanted to give this place a try. Big mistake! We walked into what looked like a war zone. Trash and chips on the floor, disgusting soiled toilet paper on view from the restroom floor- and that was just on the way to the table! Despite the large number of vacant tables, the dismissive hostess threw two menus down on the worst spot there. She walked away without a word, until we politely requested a better table. Fifteen minutes later, a burly, sweating, unfriendly waiter finally took our order. I was astounded at the prices. Having lived in all over the world, it's jaw-dropping to think that a roadhouse in Austin can get away with gouging the public for simple Mexican food. The entire experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Austin was once one of the friendliest cities around. Is this what it's become? Restaurants that act like you're lucky they're serving you? I would urge anyone reading this to skip this rude dump and instead patronize another of the many Austin-area Mexican restaurants that appreciate their customers. Pros: Tasty food, SoCo 'hood Cons: Price, Service, Cleanliness more

Good food? Yes. But also very overpriced & service could improve 10/27/2008

Came here on Friday for lunch... no lunch ""specials"" to be found. $13 lunch? Plus add'l amount for 2 tablespoons of Guac? And get this.... Add'l charge for ... CHEESE. You read correctly. CHEESE. And the charge wasn't for extra cheese, it was for ANY cheese. So I ordered a taco plate and had to pay to have cheese on them at all. When the cheese came it was a minimal amount. Absolutely ridiculous. Lunch for 2 was over $35 with sodas plus tip. Way overpriced. Service left a lot to be desired. Mentioned we hadn't been there before and she answered, ""Then I will give you extra time"". Ok. When she returned we mentioned 2 things that looked interesting and asked what she would go with. She answered ""either one"". Ok. Lot's of help there... hmmm. Perhaps she was new. Pros: Food over all was enjoyable Cons: Parking, Even an add'l charge for CHEESE! more

Bad Attitudes and Average Food. 9/15/2008

Been here three times. First time it was decidely average. The second time the hostess was so rude we left without being seated. The third time was for a friends birthday get together. His choice. We questioned $12 worth of charges on a $130 tab. They wanted to charge us extra for subsituting Triple Sec for Couintreau in a Margarita even though Triple Sec is cheaper. After much discussion with the bartender and then the manager we gave up in disgust and we're just going to pay and leave when the bartender whispered to the manager, ""They've been trying to get free drinks all night."" I raised my voice in a 'How dare you!"". He threatened to call the cops. The dummy blew a $25 tip trying to steal $12. And that was just from us. There was the rest of the party who were going to stay on but left when the cops were threatened. Pros: Still trying to think of something.....No, it won't come Cons: Miserable staff more

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm! 8/28/2008

Guero's is so yummy! The food and service are well worth the wait (which never is too long due to the efficiency of the staff). I highly recommend the queso flameado and shrimp fajitas. Everyone seems to be happy at Guero's! .... maybe it's the margaritas, I don't know... Pros: It's all good more

Why does anyone go there? 8/5/2008

Worst dining experience we have ever had. We went there for my boyfriend's birthday and took our 6 month old son along with us. We asked for a table that would accomodate his stroller and were placed right next to the bathrooms so naturally we asked for another table and the hostess acted annoyed and moved us over to a table that had the equivalent in foot traffic goign by it. Our waittress took over 10 minutes to show up and when she did, she got every facet of our order wrong. The margaritas tasted like watered down lime juice and we are still not sure if they even had alcohol in them judging by the tiny glasses packed with ice they were served in. My boyfriend is allergic to corn and we ordered flour tortillas with our fajitas but still got corn. Speaking of the fajitas, I didn't know 'tex-mex' meant 'cooked in butter'. We asked to speak with the manager before we left and got no apology and he acted like we were annoying him by saying anything at all. We have been to over 100 tex-mex restaurants and consider ourselves connossieurs. We will never go back there and can honestly say that drive-thru tex-mex is a million times better than this place! Cons: bad food, bad service, overpriced tiny margaritas more

Excellent Scene 7/24/2008

This is an awesome place to go and just hang out. The margarita's are incredible. The food is fresh and authentic and the scene is great. The inside is big and open and the patio is perfectly designed for outdoor relaxing. I recommend it. more

Poor service,cold plates,mean waitress 7/16/2008

We went to Guero's for my sons 19th birthday. The five of us were squuezed into a table space that was made for three people. The waitress was downright mean. She slammed our food down, scowled at us and tapped her foot impatiently while we were deciding on our order. It was truly over the top bad treatment. We just laughed about it and called her the waitress from hell. What can you do, it was a birthday celebration for crying out loud?! We've lived in Austin for 35 years and have been to Guero's plenty. Don't think we will be back and please don't waste your time on this Mexican restaurant when there are plenty of good ones in town where the people are friendly and the food is hot. Pros: lively atmosphere Cons: poor service, greasy cold food more
