New Ownership FAIL! 11/20/2011

NOOOO WHAT HAPPENED?!?! CHANGE OF OWNER THAT’S WHAT! My husband and I are Tribeca locals and for the last 5 years the bar at Dylan Prime has been our favorite “go to” place to eat in the area, a location we have recommended and heaped praise upon for its reliable great food, service and ambiance, that is until last night. Let’s keep this short: we seated ourselves at a booth…no wait staff in attendance…unusual, also very few other diners…even more unusual, after 15 mins a guy in a suit and tie turns up and dumps (literally) menu’s and water on the table (no bottle or tap choice?), the bottle of cabernet we order is refrigerator cold, my 7 oz medium filet is almost as cold as the wine, my salad is full of grit and covered in a non-specific and flavorless white substance and the horseradish sauce for my cold steak showed no evidence of containing any horseradish, I’m assuming it was made from the same mystery white substance as my salad dressing. At the end of the meal I asked the bartender for my bill (as no servers had appeared), and questioned if there had been a change of ownership? She replied in a beleaguered manner that yes 2 months ago a new manager took over and asked if I’d noticed a change? I replied yes we had and that it wasn’t for the better, at which she sighed and requested I write something to the new manage John Tautone as the place was not what it once was…oh so true! John Tautone you have much to answer for, the neighborhood has lost a good friend in prior manager Michael Waterhouse and I suspect Dylan Prime is soon to lose its customers too. more

Great Food and Ambiance but Ending Somewhat Disappointing 11/3/2010

I was at Dylan Prime attending a birthday party with over a dozen other guests. The food and drinks were all amazing - every single person at our table loved the appetizers and entrées, as well as deserts. Steaks were done to perfection and all appetizers were delicious. The prices are pretty good for the quality of food served there. Service staff was attentive and extremely helpful. - Essentially, everything was great until we looked at the check at the end of the party and noticed a large number of items on it that were not ordered by anyone at our table. After mentioning this to our host, these extra items were removed. Overall, great place but somewhat disappointed with the ending where we had to go through the check in detail and fix our host's mistakes. Errors like these have no place in a restaurant of such caliber. more

delicious and unpretentious 4/25/2010

I'm not a big beef eater, but when I do want a steak or a burger, this place is consistently delicious and even better, totally without the attitude it's entitled to, given its high quality. It's relatively easy to get a table without a reservation, there's a decent bar scene, and the service is efficient and straightforward. more

DYLAN PRIME==GREAT FOOD 4/10/2010

Had my birthday dinner here...4 people, service was great and it was a full house. All 4 of us loved our meal. Two of us had the filet mignon with different sauces...we both loved them. Another had a fish and the other had a different steak(can't remember which kind) Seriously, we raved the whole time. Drinks were delish as well. The sides were shared and each better than the next. Try the fried artichokes and also the potato and corn appetizer, soooo good. I highly recommend Dylan Prime, great food, great atmosphere....don't hesitate! Pros: Everything was delicious Cons: Couldn't find any more

worth the treck! 3/30/2010

i took my boyfriend here for his bday. ! the decor was elegant and modern with comfy couches (very romantic). the service was fantastic: attentive and cute waiters. for starters i got the bellini (sp?) martini which had a peach puree and calamari appetizers. not a big fan of the calamari, it just too oily and not crispy enough for us. for my main dish i got the short rib which was huge and so decadently soft it just came off the bone. my boyfriend got the ny strip which was super tasty and the sauce on the side was a definite compliment to the steak. we also got the side of mushrooms and crispy Brussels sprouts, both delicious and generous portions. will definitely go again more

not bad at all 3/27/2010

the food, esp beef wellington, was quite good (a bit too saucy if I'm being honest, but still good). Also the filet mignon stuffed with oysters, my husband loved it. Service was prompt and friendly. Unusual music playing and atmosphere different from most steakhouses (playing anything from ACDC to that song ""groove is in the heart"", strange, but the volume was just right). I'd probably recommend it if someone was looking for a place to go in tribeca. Pros: food! Cons: tables a little too close to one another, if you're a 2 top more

One of the best NYC steak restaurants 1/20/2010

My husband took me here the night he proposed to me. The restaurant didn't know this, but we were still strategically seated in a romantic little corner. The service was perfect, the wine was fabulous, and the food amazing. Definitely a great date spot: quiet, attentive but not-invasive waitstaff, and of course, great steak. Pros: food, ambiance more

Best Date Ever 11/19/2009

I surprised my boyfriend to a dinner date last month. I decided to go to Dylans. And it was the best decision I ever made on a restaurant. Dylans was by far the best, service, food and drinks were all great. We came up from Philly and it was worth the trip. We will definitely be back. more

Dylan's disappoints 11/8/2009

We were seated in a booth too small for adults but that was not the problem. The booth next to us had rowdy drunk males so I asked to be moved. Then minutes later a table of 10 men in their 40's and 50's (extremely loud jerks) were seated who proceeded to throw things at each other, this coupled with loud music made it difficult to hear the specials that the linguisticly handicapped waiter tried to describe to us. Other groups of people just stared at the loud group and the manager did nothing. The B & T crowd apparently loves this place. The food was ok in general however if you order the Ceasar salad as an appetizer, you will get 1 romaine leaf cut into 4 pieces with a shaving of parmesan cheese. The joke is on the patrons of this restaurant. My husband, son (28 yrs old) and I left with a headache and will never go back. Try the Tri-Becca Grill which has classier patrons and great food. Pros: Beef Wellington was excellent Cons: Loud music, loud rowdy diners more

Steak cooked to perfection, service with a smile... 11/5/2009

My girlfriend and I had the best meal we've had in a long time (in NYC) at Dylan Prime. Both the filet and the NY Strip were fantasic and cooked exactly how we like them. All the sides were delicious as well. I also had 2 nice ice cold dirty martini's expertly made.\r \r The service was attentive but did not micromanage our time there. They were very friendly and a group of waitstaff even gave us an unsolicted compliment of ""best dressed"" couple of the evening! Whether that's true or not (for me at least, my girl looked stunning), flattery works on us and capped off a great evening. more

great place to bring a nice lady on a date if its a special occasion birthday, anniversary etc.. a little pricey so i wouldn't go regularly but i wish i could. The lobster mac and cheese was great. The only thing i thought couldve been better was the pork belly tater tots. Pros: best ny strip ive had in a long time Cons: none? more
