Great dinner spot 11/12/2007

I went here for my birthday on a friday night. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. The service was great, the cheese fondue appetizer is a must, the steak was good (not the best, but solid.) The atmosphere was the best thing of all. It was a very chill, sophisticated, nice place to dine. The lounge/bar area next door was also really fun to have a drink in. Two thumbs up! Pros: ambience, appetizers, wine Cons: $ more

Great Apple Martini...and some sides 10/25/2007

went here for a bday dinner a few nights ago, this place is kinda hard to get to and once you're in you're amazed at how anyone else found it--we went on a Wed. night and it was pretty packed in the dining room, and the bar had a good crowd. Anyways, the ambience is definitely very nice. Like the editorial review said, the place seats a lot but feels intimate. \r \r Food-wise, wasn't that impressed. we had the scallops and the fried artichoke. My friend said the scallops were good, the fried artichoke was good but not something I'd crave for again. For entree we got the 11 oz. filet mignon and the halibut. filet mignon wasn't that tasty, seemed bland, and the halibut was def overcooked as it was very dry and i don't even eat fish that much and i know it wasn't good. the sides were def better--we had the baked potato, some corn/potato truffle thing, cream spinach and the lobster mac n cheese. so lesson learn--order 1 entree and lots of sides. \r \r as for drinks, they had a large cocktail menu. the best drink though was the Big Apple--basically an Apple Martini but its got cinnamon frosting on the glass. it was AMAZING. seriously, this drink was the highlight of my meal. \r \r overall a nice dining experience with attentive service but ok food. not bad food, but not great either. Pros: the Big Apple, service, ambience Cons: entrees aren't that great more

fantastic steak and great service! 9/17/2007

The appetizer, crab cake is good and also salads are very tasty but the french onion soup was okay. However, the main dish, rib eye melts on your mouth and filet mignon with blue oysters are fantastic! I've dined many major chain steak houses but the quality of the steak here beats the major chain steak houses. The side dishes are big so people can share. Also, we originally ordered $75 wine from Napa Valley but the restaurant was out of that particular wine therefore, the manager gave us another wine that costs $90 for the price of $75. Now, that's a great service! Not only that, the server was very friendly and courteous and had no problem spilitting the bills as well. Once again, good food and good service. I cant' wait to go back to this place again when I visit NY. Pros: food, steak, wine list, service, value of the food, ambience, everthing else Cons: Nothing more

just the apps man just the apps 4/7/2007

It does seem a little crazy to go to a steak house just for the appetizers and not have the steak but that is what we did the other night. Honestly, a good steak is a good steak. A great steak is a great steak and there are about a gazillion great steakhouses in Manhattan now. But a load of appetizers, that's a treat. Dylan is a nice room and you don't have to leave there stuffed like a Macy's Balloon. Pros: good menu up and down Cons: i don't know why citysearch insists that there is a con for every review more

would go back to this steak house again! 3/20/2007

Great experience. Descent Service. Ordered 2 steaks between the two of us; Filet was perfect. But the Strip steak was well done, not medium as requested. Sides were delicious, wine selection pretty good too. Did not wait to be seated with reservation made on opentable. Would definitely go back. more

Good food, good wine, lovely ambiance 3/6/2007

Went here for a nice romantic dinner. Had a good time, my 7 oz. filet mignon was a bit small, def go for the 11 oz which is only $6 more. It was yummy, and the sides are very good, i would order rare next time, my medium rare was a bit too done for me. The wine was also very good, and the service was also what is to be expected. Overall, a lovely dinner. more

If you can live on apps and side dishes... go for it 2/27/2007

I went to Dylan Prime for a friend's birthday and was not pleased overall. The main problem that I had with this restaurant is that the steaks were just not good. The sides were great (I'm not a potato guy - but I have to admit, the potatoes with bacon were fantastic, as was the broccoli rabe and creamed spinach). The appetizers were great (especially the crab cakes and scallops). The steaks however, were horrible - and when you're going to a place where steak is supposedly the raison d'etre... well... there you go. Everyone at the table had a different cut of meat and all of us were disappointed. I personally had the T bone, and while I will say that it got better as I got further into the steak towards the bone, the outer portion (roughly half) was dry and flavorless with way too much char for a rare steak (thank goodness for the sauce I ordered on the side, since ordering a new drink or a glass of water to wash down those dry bites of steak would have taken ages). The final clincher for me to never visit this place again was when we paid the check. Since we were a large party (10 people), the gratuity was added to the bill. Since a couple of the people in our party were bartenders and waitstaff, we tipped an extra 100 or so dollars on top of the gratuity. I excused myself to use the restroom, and upon returning to the table, saw the bartender, our waiter, and another waitress (who had nothing to do with our table except for handing us dessert menus) at the bar, fighting like cats and dogs about who was going to get the extra 100-ish dollars we left. If I were an investment banker instead of a bartender and could have coughed up an extra hundred each just to get them to shut up about it, I would have. If you can expense it, then who cares? (Unless the client is really important). But if you are paying out of pocket, there are way better steaks and way better service to be had in New York for the same or slightly lower/higher prices. Pros: Nice hostess, great apps and sides Cons: Abysmal steak, so so waitstaff more

I love Great Food and Great Fun! 1/17/2007

I love Dylan Prime. It's the place to go for fabulous food and fun. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The food is first rate! Go once and you'll be back, again and again. Bring friends or meet new ones. Be sure to try the best martini in the city or anywhere else for that matter. Don't be left out. Go now. what are you waiting for? Go, Go, Go. more

Attractive steakhouse w/ Great Starters, Sauces, and Sides 1/15/2007

I love this place and I love the unassuming location in Tribeca. This is a different kind of steakhouse, not your traditional and overly masculine steakhouse, and that's part of what makes it special and worth a visit even though I won't argue it to have the best steak in town. We were seated promptly but I wish that we'd had a second longer to linger at the bar because it looked pretty inviting. We started with the cheese fondue accompanied by apples, bacon, and cubed bread. It was bubbly, luscious and a perfect starter to complement Dylan's atmosphere. The Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes were very crabby and too much for one person alone, so splitting this would be the best option. I had the Filet with the Black Pepper Buerre Rouge Sauce. The filet was cooked a perfect medium rare but I found it to be a little boring without the sauce. WITH the sauce, which was full of spice and edible by itself, it was fantastic. Our sides were also great. We ordered the Baby Baked Potatoes and the Lobster and White Truffle Mac n' Cheese. I strongly recommend both. The Mac n' Cheese was so creamy, truffle-y, and wonderful that it inspired me to spend an entire day in the kitchen trying to design my own rendition. The wine list was great as well, I will definitely be back! Pros: Interesting sauces, mac & cheese, great ambience Cons: Pricey more
