great food great service 5/22/2008

Dylan's is one of those restaurants that is always consistant. It's always good. Even if it's crowded, the service is still good. Sure it might be slower, but then againt he food is cooked to order so normal. We no longer live in NYC but make it a point to always dine at Dylan's during our trips to NYC and the husband recommends it to all his clients visiting NYC. This is truely a great steak restaurant. Been to BLT and this is better. I don't even want to try others, this one is the crown jewel of steak houses Pros: everything Cons: none as far as food, a bit of a hike from uptown to downtown but worth it more

Great food, Great service 4/17/2008

So, I had been thinking about visiting this place for months. I read reviews. I've heard mixed reviews. I must say that I loved it! We started out with cocktails in their beautiful lounge and then had dinner in the dining room. We were seated and promptly approached. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. We found out that she had worked there for a few years, so assumed that she would be able to give some good suggestions. And our instincts were correct! Most of our group had steaks (the ""Cowboy"" ribeye was AMAZING) and one in our group was convinced to try the bacon chop (something we never would have thought about, but we all tried...and loved it!) The lobster mac and cheese was to die for! Our experience was incredible and will be back again! Pros: Service, food more

Horrible service, Over priced 4/7/2008

Do not go here if you have a large group. We had 10 people in our party. For our 1st drink we waited an hour and got to order after hour and thirty mins. The food left something to be desired. Overpriced and all of the steaks were overcooked. we finally were able to get the check after 3 hours and 30 mins. We refused to get desert because of the wait time. The final bill was over $1600. Everyone left with feeling ripped off. Oh and the crowd is SO Not Hip!!! If you want steak DO NOT GO HERE. Stay to Brooklyn or 14th street. Pros: Walking out of the door Cons: That they exist more

Bad Steaks 3/26/2008

Went here for New Year's Eve 2007. The decor was ok, the restaurant is difficult to get to, the service was decent..nothing exceptional, nothing bad.\r \r The steak itself, was horrible. I had to actually ASK the waiter if the meat was a choice cut or prime cut, that's how bad the steak was. Much better steakhouses elsewhere that's not difficult to get to. more

Great service, great menu 3/15/2008

Tried Dylan Prime for the first time last week. Had to wait 10 mins for our reservation but enjoyed drinks (great selection of cocktails and wine) in the lounge, which was casual and welcoming. LOVED the filet I ordered for dinner. The steak was comparable to Luger's or Sparks, believe it or not. Server was attentive throughout the meal. I'll definitely be back. Pros: service, food, martini and wine menus Cons: n/a more

Splurge elsewhere 2/10/2008

In New York, 300 dollars can buy you a wonderful meal, so it would be a waste to spend it here. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday, and it was a huge disappointment. Though I noted in the reservation that it was his birthday and reminded both the host and our waitress (who, to be fair, was very nice), we were seated at a table with a broken flap that kept hitting his knees and they couldn't remember the candle in our cake. The famed fondue was lumpy, the steak was overcooked, and the beet salad was overdressed. It was edible, but hardly impressive. more

Don't like the change 2/1/2008

I've gone to dylan prime more than once a month for a few years. Tonight I had the worst porterhouse I've ever had there. (still pretty good). When the bill came It was significantly more than it had been in the past (over $100 for a porterhourse for two instead of about $65). The waiter said they've changed the steak they bought and thus it cost more. I like this place, but they've switched to worse tasting steak that costs close to twice as much as it cost before. They better change this, because wolfgangs down the street has a better porterhouse for 25% less. (That being said, I still hope they change it, because there are times when I feel like going to dylan prime instead of wolgangs.) more

Warning, Do Not Go Here 12/13/2007

I recently held a private birthday party at Dylan Prime Lounge. First they sat 24 ppl in a cramped space split by entry to the restroom. i kindly asked hostess to move us, he says fine so good times so far. Next the owner along w/ 2 co-owners were sitting in section we moved to. It was completely fine considering our party had not yet arrived but after thirty minutes with a 1/2 empty lounge the three men refused to move! We gave them more than an hour to finish their drinks and once all my guests arrived we stood up for the first hour since one of our tables were occupied by strangers! I decided to introduce myself in order to make the situation civil but the intro was less than warm-try subzero. Long story short - he sat there for a half hour more giving my guests the stare down all night. DO NOT HAVE A PARTY HERE. The owners were rude and not professional. I could say worse but I'll leave it at that. Sadly no one ever called to rectify the situation after my boss had a heart to heart with the Manager on Duty . No apology- NOTHING - I was told by the event Mgr next day 'You consumed the drinks and food so deal with it. There's nothing we can do."" THIS WAS WORST EXPERIENCE IN A RESTAURANT IN THE TEN YEARS I'VE LIVED IN NYC. Cons: Owners and Management were not professional more

Modern Take On Dead Cow 12/3/2007

I've got to say it was pretty good. the reviews didn't really sell me, but the atmosphere is great, the food good, not spectacular. Service is spot-on and the cocktails are killer. Get the Manhattan if you like bourbon. the pork belly tatertots are good but taste like the fried stuff you get at rodizio. Scallops as an appetizer was fantastic, they must have been 3 inches across. Filet mignon was good, but a little sinewy. The creamed spinach was dry and not creamy at all, but the baby baked potatoes were excellent, in a cheesy, creamy sauce-a must have! dessert was a let down, but by that time you need angioplasty anyway. The bar area is good to hang out, A great alternative to steak houses, but I would take Sparks or Old Homestead anyday.. Pros: cool atmosphere, great cocktails Cons: dessert choices are weak more

Great Date Spot! Pricey... but what steakhouse in Manhattan isn't? 11/13/2007

Was looking for a nice steakhouse to take my girlfriend to, but was looking for someplace that was less stuffy, not ridicuously expensive, and with a cool atmosphere. A friend recommended Dylan Prime to me and I made reservations for a Thursday night w/ no problem. When we arrived for our 8:00 reservation we were seated promptly and the dimly-lit restaurant was about 1/2 full. We started by sharing the so-so lobster gnocci appetizer and munched on the bread until our main course, a 32 oz. porterhouse, arrived w/ sides of lobster mac & cheese (good, but maybe a little too dry), potato/corn cakes (amazing! highly recommend w/ steak!), and the obligatory creamed spinach (mmmmm). The steak was cooked just right and the porterhouse was just the right portion size for the two of us to share when you factor in all of the sides we got. She drank sangria and I red wine, and unfortuantely there was no room for dessert since we were stuffed... but reading them on the menu still made my mouth water. Our waiter was attentive and accomodating, and the quiet background music ranged from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Michael Jackson to Justin Timberlake... random, but it set the mood for a great evening. There were also some larger groups in the restaurant that seemed to be having a great time and I may looking into a group outing in the future. I've been to many steakhouses in the city, from Blair Perrone's and Mark Joseph's to Smith & Wollensky's and Gallagher's, and although the steaks at Dylan Prime aren't quite to the level of some of these, the altogether experience was wonderful and I can't knock the food. Total bill came to $200 including tip, which was just about what I anticipated. Thanks for a fantastic evening! Pros: Ambience, Prices Compared to Other Steakhouses, Great Steak! Cons: Aggressive bus-boys... protect your plate if savoring final bites more
